Week 4 Assignment Sustainable Living Guide Contribu9ons, Part Four of Four: Sustaining our Atmosphere and Climate Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is the abundance of methods to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions produced from industrial processes or power generation, transport the captured CO2 to a capable storage site, and store it underground or utilize it for different purposes to prevent its release into the atmosphere. Term [Carbon Capture and Storage] From my research on this term as its fairly new to me the importance of carbon capture and storage is its ability to minimize climate change. Reducing the amount of CO2 being released into the atmosphere, while helping to limit global warming and its impacts. CCS technologies are considered crucial in achieving large reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and meeting international climate targets. Capturing and storing CO2 emissions from industries such as power plants and factories, CCS can play a vital role in decarbonizing systems that are challenging to transition. Carbon capture and storage affects living things and the physical world in several ways. One of the most important is the intake of CO2. By preventing CO2 from entering the atmosphere, CCS contributes to preserving natural habitats and safeguarding biodiversity. However, CCS can have a positive impact on air quality and human health by reducing the emission of harmful air primarily with fossil fuel combustion. By capturing and storing CO2 emissions from industrial sources, CCS can help mitigate air pollution and its effects on respiratory health, most
importantly is urban communities. Advocating for government policies and financial incentives that will enhance the development and efforts of CCS technologies. This will include supporting carbon pricing mechanisms, tax breaks for CCS projects, and research funding for CCS. By engaging policymakers and raising awareness about the importance of CCS, people will be able to help and create an enabling environment for CCS deployment and adopt the best practices across industries. An example of promoting policies and incentives for CCS deployment is by advocating for the introduction of carbon pricing mechanisms, such as carbon caps, that would potentially create financial incentives to families and businesses. Pricing carbon emissions and attaching a price tag to CO2 pollution will minimize the release. Organizing educational workshops and outreach events to raise awareness about CCS technologies and their benefits. Getting the community engaged with local communities, schools, businesses, member of the community can educate one another. Creating these educational efforts will help mitigate misconceptions about CCS and build community awareness.
