SNHU 107 Project Template Academic Success Plan Use this template to address the steps in your Project Guidelines and Rubric. Complete all parts of this template by replacing the bracketed text with your responses. Be sure to proofread the entire document before submitting. Name: Brian Saquieres 1. Identify a problem-solving technique or method you have used in a previous situation and explain how it helped you. How might problem-solving methods be different in diverse cultures or fields of work? How can effective problem-solving help you in your academic journey? A problem-solving technique I have used in a prior situation that has worked is to empathize and view issues from multiple perspectives. Because I work in a management position, I have to remember that different people have different beliefs, cultures, and ideals that differ from my own. This problem-solving technique has allowed me to address difficult topics which require tact and a holistic approach to solve. Effective problem-solving techniques also transition into learning as well and they allow for individuals to focus on a problem and find methods which would yield the best outcomes. 2. Identify your learning style and explain how knowing/learning about your learning style helped support your success throughout this course. Personally, I feel that my learning style is more Visual and auditory however, I also feel that I learn from doing as well therefore, I have a little of all three of these learning styles. I believe that learning my learning style will help me understand how to best cater to my learning. In addition, it will allow me to better understand the areas in which I struggle as a learning so that I can find methods to enhance my learning and grasp content in a way that is suitable for me. Learning this about myself has really helped me focus on my weaknesses and create an effective plan to ensure success and sustainability in the course. 3. Identify which of the five successful habits of an SNHU student have been most helpful for you throughout this course. Explain how those habits have helped you. The five habits of successful SNHU students are: i. Strive to submit all assignments. ii. Log in early iii. Engage often. iv. Use the rubric. v. Reach out for help. For me, logging in early and using the rubric are the two most important habits I want to adhere to during this semester. I feel that by making it a priority to be consistent and concise in my work I will have a better opportunity to earn as many points as possible during each week. 4. Explain how you will stay on track in your courses and overcome interruptions that may impact your schedule. Staying on track is essential! I will ensure to prioritize my schoolwork and coursework every week by balancing my duties as a father, husband, and worker. It is my priority to make time for my success at SNHU by committing to my courses and keeping up with the requirements of each course to ensure I am able to balance every aspect of life. 5. Choose two SNHU resources (departments and resources that are part of SNHU) and two social supports (people, places, and things outside of SNHU) that will help the most with achieving your mission and goals, and
that will help you prioritize your time. Also indicate why these resources and social supports are key for your success. Shapiro Library The first resource I will most likely use is the Shapiro Library. I feel that this resource will allow me to easily find resources, data, and papers to use for support. In addition, I can ask questions and find additional resources to ensure that I am successful as a first-time student navigating through my courses. SNHU Writing Center The second resource I plan on using is the writing center. Writing is not my best quality and as a first-year student I feel that it is important to prioritize my weaknesses now and ensure I have a strong foundation moving forward to help mitigate time challenges in future courses. My Wife My main support is my wife. She excels in academia and has a very strong foundation in prioritization and understanding of coursework. She is my biggest motivator and support in this journey. She helps me plan and adhere to my goals to ensure I am doing the best I can in each course. My Son My second support is my son. He is also a huge motivator for obtaining my degree and he likes to help me plan my weekly requirements on our family calendar. 6. List your personal academic mission statement. Personal Mission Statement: I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Finance at SNHU because I am passionate about the financial industry and its potential to help people achieve their financial goals. After earning my degree at SNHU, I hope to work as a financial analyst at a reputable financial institution. I want to be part of a team that helps clients make informed decisions about their finances and investments. With my degree, I hope to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to provide sound financial advice to individuals and businesses. I believe that financial literacy is essential for personal and professional success, and I want to help others achieve their financial goals. By pursuing a career in finance, I hope to contribute to the development of a more financially literate society. 7. List your THREE short-term academic goals. Goal #1: Complete all assignments on time. i. How/Why? This will allow me to stay on track and ensure I make progress towards my degree. I will use my support system and resources to stay on track. Goal #2: Attend all classes and participate actively in the weekly discussions. i. How/Why? Attending classes and participating weekly will allow me to understand complex concepts and remain up to date on everything in my course. I will ensure to do this by using the SNHU resources and planning tools to ensure I meet all of the weekly goals. Goal #3: Join a student club or organization. i. How/Why? Joining a student organization or club helps you develop new skills, build your network, and gain valuable experience that can be applied to your future career. 8. Describe the importance of setting goals on your academic journey. Setting goals on your academic journey is imperative because it keeps you accountable. A goal allows you to break down bigger goals into simple tasks which give you a boost of serotonin when
you complete them! Academically this may be logging-in earlier to get a head start and balance your work week, or simply doing better with writing or exams. Whichever the goal, making that goal will allow you to work towards a bigger outcome which will ultimately bring you so much joy and a sense of accomplishment. 9. Explain how you are going to stay motivated to achieve your goals and mission statement, based on what you have learned in SNHU 107. Personally, I will ensure to break down large concepts into more manageable ones. In addition, I intend on taking things slowly as this is my first college course ever and I never truly had a great experience with school as a child. SNHU 107 has taught me that I have far more patience and willingness to accomplish my tasks because they use a very simple and integrative task-oriented structure which rewards you as you go. I will take these small wins any day as a sign that I am on the path to success. 10. Explain why an awareness of diversity is beneficial to giving and receiving feedback when collaborating with others. Awareness of diversity is crucial to giving and receiving feedback. Collaboration involves dealing with and understanding different perspectives which are not your own and using those perspectives to formulate ideas for change. Diversity and cultural differences make each of us unique and they allow us to bring concepts to the drawing board which may yield better outcomes. Being aware of these differences is key when being in any leadership or collaborative group as it allows you to take in new ideas without bias. 11. Explain why it is important to take ownership, be vulnerable, ask for help, and have an open mind to achieve your goals. Being vulnerable, asking for help, having an open mind, and taking ownership in your goal-setting process helps you attain your goals in a more meaningful way because you gain a deeper understanding of how life plays a role on your goals. Vulnerability means acknowledging your weaknesses and areas of improvement. By understanding your limitations, you can set realistic and achievable goals that challenge you but are not impossible to achieve. Having an open mind means being open to the possibility of failure and criticism and allows you to realize that you can also ask for help regardless of where you are in your goal process- and taking ownership makes you realize that you are ultimately responsible for the outcomes of your goals and whether or not you make them a reality. 12. Explain what your biggest takeaway was from this course. Honestly, my biggest takeaway from this course was realizing that the fears and negative thoughts I had about returning to school were all merely thoughts in my head stemming from personal insecurities. I am thankful that this course made me realize that I have the potential to start and finish a degree as a first-time immigrant student in my family.
