1.
Identify a problem-solving technique or method you have used in a previous situation and explain how it helped you. How might problem-solving methods be different in diverse cultures or fields of work? How can effective problem-solving help you in your academic journey?
The problems I run into on most days are solved by working backwards. At work I balance registers from the previous day and when an issue arises, I must work backwards to try to find where the issue occurred and then follow policy procedures on how to resolve it. This method has been the most effective problem-solving technique in my current job role.
Problem-solving might differ from one job to another. For example, a construction worker using blueprints might use a means-end style while an analyst using graphs and formulas might use the heuristic style.
There will be different types of problems I will face in my academic journey.
Knowing how to solve --or at least attempt to solve-- them will be crucial to my success. If I do not use the correct problem-solving technique, I could jeopardize my grades and my success.
2.
Identify your learning style and explain how knowing/learning about your learning style helped support your success throughout this course.
I use different learning styles based on what I am working on. For the most part, I learn best and retain more information by reading and writing. Utilizing this style has helped me take better notes and research information needed to complete my assignments. I did not realize just how effective this style has been until I had to go back through my notes to review what I learned in previous assignments.
3.
Identify which of the five successful habits of an SNHU student have been most helpful for you throughout this course. Explain how those habits have helped you.
I make it a point to log in early to get an idea of what the upcoming week’s topic and assignments are. This gives me more time to read, research, and
take proper notes to fully understand what is required of me to complete the assignments. So far, this has allowed me to turn in assignments early, allowing more free time to spend with my family.
4.
Explain how you will stay on track in your courses and overcome interruptions that may impact your schedule.
I am fortunate to have a several hour gap between getting off work and picking up my kids from school to use as study time and coursework. On days when my kids are out of school for holidays or school vacation, they stay preoccupied by playing in their playroom or at their drawing tables. They understand the importance of schoolwork, so they know not to interrupt me while I am doing mine -- unless it’s important. I will usually only spend an hour or two on my studies in a case like this. My husband will
also keep them entertained if he is off work.
My job has agreed to my availability and schedules me accordingly. When they need me outside of my availability, they will call and if I can spare the time, I will go in.
I keep my schedule as open as possible to keep from over planning and to allow room for adjustments when necessary.
5.
Choose two SNHU resources (departments and resources that are part of SNHU) and two social supports (people, places, and things outside of SNHU) that will help the most with achieving your mission and goals, and that will help you prioritize your time. Also indicate why these resources and social supports are key for your success.
My advisor and instructor
My advisor has helped me through each part of my journey so far. She calls and/or emails me to check in on my progress, reminds me of course registrations, and assists with any questions I may have.
My instructor provides beneficial feedback on my assignments and makes herself available for questions and concerns. Her feedback on my assignments has given me insight into what I need to improve. At the beginning of each module, she provides resources that will assist with researching and studying that week’s assignments which allows me to prioritize my time.
They both have shown me that they are invested in my success and growth. Having them as a resource makes keeping up with my short-
term goals and mission easier to accomplish.
Shapiro Library
The Shapiro Library has proven very beneficial in helping me
complete my assignments. The library has a plethora of videos, articles, and services -to name a few- that will assist me in my coursework. Having everything I need for assignments in one place makes researching more convenient and less time consuming. This in turn will make it easier for me to stay on track with completing my goals and mission, making The Shapiro Library a key to my success.
Husband
I would not have the goals I have today if it were not for my husband,
Wesley. He was the initial reason I applied for college. The support -
and the confidence he has in me- helps me to keep pushing to make my mission a reality. He helps with the kids when I am studying or competing assignments. He is my audience when I read aloud my modules and journals. I prioritize my time better by completing my coursework early so I can have more time with them. His support makes it possible to accomplish my goals and mission. Any and all success I receive will be made possible because of his support.
Work and kids’ schedules.
I have a set schedule at work that is posted 3 weeks in advance and my kids’ school schedule is posted typically a year in advance -with the exception of emergency school closings- which allows me to dedicate specific time each day to my schoolwork. I can study and complete assignments in a timely manner, thus keeping me on track with my goals and mission. I prioritize my time better this way. 6.
List your personal academic mission statement.
My personal academic mission is to complete my bachelor’s degree in business
analytics successfully by January 2028. My goal is to utilize my degree and skills
in retail at a corporate level, preferably with my current company. I will strive to make the company more profitable and successful with the focus being on customer satisfaction. My ultimate goal in pursuing higher education is to deliver a better life and a more financially stable future for my family.
7.
List your THREE short-term academic goals.
Turn in all assignments early or by the deadline for the first 3 semesters.
Complete and pass my first 3 semesters with all A’s.
Register for all required courses and electives ahead of time for the current 3 semesters.

Having goals keeps me striving harder to achieve high academic success. Accomplishing a goal that I have worked so hard to achieve is very rewarding. I
keep laser focused on my goals, because I know what I want to achieve and when I want to achieve them. I have a mission to accomplish, and I cannot finish my mission if I do not have a plan in place. 9.
Explain how you are going to stay motivated to achieve your goals and mission statement, based on what you have learned in SNHU 107.
I am going to stay motivated throughout my academic journey by following the
goals I have set. I consider my mission statement as my pledge, which gives me
a more meaningful purpose and drive to finish this chapter of my life. I have plenty of resources to help me along the way and a family who are rooting for me. The feedback I have received --along with the grades-- have really helped me to keep working hard with each module and assignment.
10.Explain why an awareness of diversity is beneficial to giving and receiving feedback when collaborating with others.
We all need to show respect to everyone, regardless of our differences. When giving or receiving feedback, we need to understand the barriers that “separates” us. It would not make sense to have --or attempt to have-- a meaningful collaboration if the other people present speak a different language. Rather you are the one giving feedback or the recipient, take the time to understand what makes you different from the other and ask questions to clarify any misunderstandings. What one person deems acceptable may be offensive to another. Being closed-minded to the differences of others will make a person appear arrogant, selfish, and lacking compassion for mankind. When we work together and embrace what makes us different, instead of dividing and neglecting others, we can achieve so much
more. 11.Explain why it is important to take ownership, be vulnerable, ask for help, and have an open mind to achieve your goals.
Taking ownership is taking responsibility for what I want (and will) ultimately achieve. I simply cannot accomplish that if I do not have a plan in place. Setting
goals makes taking ownership much easier. Setting goals is the easy part, accomplishing them may not be as easy. Being vulnerable and open minded enough to ask for help or advice can assist with achieving my goals. Having someone else give me a different perspective on an issue that I had been struggling with helped me to find a solution. If I had not been open to their
suggestions, I would have spent more time on it, but without gaining any beneficial results.
12.Explain what your biggest takeaway was from this course.
The knowledge I have gained in this course will be very beneficial inside and outside the classroom. Learning the many ways to be vulnerable and open minded to different scenarios has given me a better perspective on accepting feedback in a more positive way. Utilizing the resources I have acquired and the habits I have made, such as scheduling and prioritizing my time more effectively, has made reaching my goals more realistic. Before I started this course, I knew why I wanted to attend and what I wanted to achieve after graduation, but I never thought about it in depth. Creating my mission statement has become more meaningful with a much higher purpose than I had predicted. I have learned a lot about myself, how I can be more effective in the workplace, and how I can be a better role model for my kids. This course
has challenged me in my ways of thinking, problem solving, adapting, and overcoming obstacles. I look forward to what’s next in this journey.
