CAI 11 & 12 Anna Millard 1. Many people do not perceive themselves as creative. Do you think creative activities are helpful for anyone regardless of creative abilities or self-perceptions of creativity? a. I do think that creative activities are helpful for anyone. Creativity does not have to be in the usual artistic sense that many think of when they hear the word creativity. Any creative activity can help expand the mind and learning of someone while they do it. For instance, creativity can help with problem solving, stress reduction, self-expression, or adaptability. For many people, a paint and sip activity can be very relaxing, also can let you do self-expression by letting you paint whatever you want. There is no pressure to be creative, yet a person is using creativity to create a painting. A creative activity also could be doing a puzzle with your family and while not a traditional form of creativity, one must use problem solving skills and come up with ways to finish the puzzle. Many people could benefit from these types of activities as they are expanding their mind with no pressure on being or thinking creatively. 2. Can you think of some instances in your own prior learning experiences in school when you feel engaged in creative learning and even contributed creatively to the learning of others? What factors supported your creative learning? a. In high school, I was in AP Language and Composition. For our class, each week we would read an article that was in the news or dealt with a social issue. Then we would come to class and have a round table discussion about what we read, and what points we believed in. It was an organized debate, and when we all agreed, we would brainstorm solutions to the problems that we read about. As we would bounce ideas off of each other, we each helped each other to gain a new perspective, or build upon ideas that could help our world. I think one of the big factors that helped support our creative learning was that there were only a few guidelines to these discussions. Otherwise, we were able to speak freely, generate ideas with no restrictions, and there was a natural conversation flow, no teacher stopping us and asking us each a question. I also believe that what helped us was
that we were talking about subjects that were happening right now around us. All of us knew what we were talking about as we had heard it in the news, and online. We were able to effectively learn and communicate because it was topics that we cared about.
