Patient consumerism isn’t exactly one of the NEWEST trends (it’s been around for over a decade), but it is something that healthcare systems are struggling to adapt to, while other healthcare systems have a clear plan in place and are already making appropriate changes. Along with other more hopeful trends such as a stronger focus on mental and behavioral health, healthcare systems are also having to adapt to digital relationships that help lift the burden of the physician(s), they must also try adapting to telehealth/virtual visits and home-based visits. Telehealth also means that practices need to be planning and budgeting for a higher scale of telehealth visits post-pandemic. It is estimated that
anywhere from 10%-30% of visits will be a virtual care post-Covid-19. (Frist, 2021). Healthcare systems also must adapt to the changes in clinical trials, while trying to forecast an uncertain future.
Trends and Challenges in Healthcare Healthcare Trends After Covid-19 first hit the US and grew into what it has become, healthcare systems initially took on the mindset of “go it alone” (Martin, 2021, p. 1). That way of thinking rapidly changed as they ran out of supplies, PPEs to be specific. Everyone had to come together and lend a hand for healthcare systems to survive. There was such a huge collaboration between providers, suppliers, and even non-medical companies. This is where a healthcare system and competing companies work
together, to lower the cost of care while increasing their connections and relationships with patients while also either increasing their profit margin or maintaining the same steady flow of income. This collaboration is what started the thought process of needing more strategic and agile supply chains. Supply chains are such a vital part of the delivery of care. The supply chain will fail if the healthcare systems are not strategically planning for every situation. If that happens, the healthcare system also fails. Getting the cheapest price but lacking a
relationship with a valued client is not a good deal, it can lead to much bigger issues when you need them. You should always have a contingency plan, regardless of the relationship with a vendor. During the current pandemic, healthcare systems realized how important it is to have a deeper relationship with
vendors. They have come up with a more strategic plan for making themselves invaluable. Having a smaller, more local backup vendor that is readily available when the main vendor is not another trend that we are seeing in the latest trends
in healthcare. One that is especially important to so many is a stronger focus on mental and behavioral health. This pandemic has been the cause of a lot of mental health and behavioral health issues. Healthcare systems have seen this as a huge need, and they are now focusing more and more on treatments and understanding what needs to be done. Most healthcare systems have already

adapted to the increased rate of healthcare consumerism. Patients are now more than ever the main driver in their healthcare plans. They have made the conscious
choice to pay more for insurance and take on a more active role in responsibility for their healthcare decisions. This seems to lessen the medical load of the provider and eliminates the “he said/she said” misunderstandings.
The advancement of technology is presenting new options for healthcare practitioners to give care in a more effective manner. Mobile technology and telemedicine make it possible to conduct virtual visits with patients and to remotely monitor their health. Electronic medical records make it possible to maintain patient files that are both more thorough and more easily accessible. In the meantime, the price of medical treatment continues its steadily upward. This is because of rises in the cost of medical supplies, prescription pharmaceuticals, and labor, in addition to an increase in the demand for healthcare services brought on by shifts in the demographic makeup of the population. The demand for healthcare services has increased as a result of an aging population as well as an increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases.
As a direct result of this, there has been a heightened emphasis placed on preventative care as well as quality. Through the implementation of quality
programs and preventive care measures, healthcare providers are working hard to enhance patient outcomes while simultaneously lowering overall costs. These measures include the application of methods that are supported by evidence, the management of populations' health, and the utilization of health information technology.
These developments will have significant repercussions for healthcare administration in the future. Managers in the healthcare industry need to be aware and skilled in the application of technology, as well as the implementation of quality initiatives and preventative care. In addition, they need to be aware of their area's shifting demographics and be able to adapt their plans and resources accordingly. Healthcare administrators need to be able to efficiently manage budgets, establish and execute new policies and procedures, and come up with innovative ways for patient care if they are going to be able to adapt to the changes that are occurring. Additionally, they are required to have excellent communication and organizational abilities and the capacity to work cooperatively with other medical professionals. Finally, managers in the healthcare industry need to be able to devise methods that both save costs and boost patient outcomes.
In today's rapidly evolving healthcare environment, managers of healthcare
facilities need to possess a diverse set of skills to be successful in their jobs. They are required to have an in-depth knowledge of the healthcare sector, the technology that is utilized in the healthcare business, as well as the legislation and
policies that regulate the healthcare industry. Additionally, they need to be able to efficiently manage budgets and resources, in addition to having the capacity to create and implement policies and procedures. In addition to this, they need to be
equipped with the information and abilities necessary to develop novel ways to patient care and enhance outcomes. Last but not least, managers in the healthcare industry need excellent communication and organizational abilities, in addition to the capacity to work effectively with colleagues in the healthcare industry.
In the end, healthcare managers need to be able to adjust to the shifting requirements of the healthcare business to guarantee the delivery of care that is not only reliable but also effective and efficient financially. Healthcare managers have the ability to ensure that the sector is ready for the future by ensuring that they possess the information, skills, and abilities necessary for successfully managing the healthcare industry.
