In an inclusion setting, students with special needs are integrated into the general education classroom. The teaching strategies here are designed to accommodate all learners. Teachers often use differentiated instruction, where they modify content, process, and product based on students' readiness, interest, and learning profile. They may also use Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which provides multiple means of representation, action/expression, and engagement. In terms of seating, students with special needs may be seated closer to the teacher for easier monitoring and assistance. The support given is often indirect, provided by the general education teacher, with occasional assistance from a special education teacher or aide. In a resource setting, students with special needs are pulled out of the general education classroom for part of the day to receive specialized instruction. The teaching strategies here are more individualized, focusing on specific skills or areas of need.
