Teaching strategies in an inclusion setting and a resource setting differ significantly. In
an inclusion setting, students with special needs are integrated into the general
education classroom. The teaching strategies here are designed to accommodate all
learners. Teachers often use differentiated instruction, where they modify content,
process, and product based on students' readiness, interest, and learning profile. They
may also use Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which provides multiple means of
representation, action/expression, and engagement. In terms of seating, students with
special needs may be seated closer to the teacher for easier monitoring and assistance.
The support given is often indirect, provided by the general education teacher, with
occasional assistance from a special education teacher or aide. In a resource setting,
students with special needs are pulled out of the general education classroom for part of
the day to receive specialized instruction. The teaching strategies here are more
individualized, focusing on specific skills or areas of need. Direct instruction, where the
teacher explicitly teaches a skill and provides guided practice, is commonly used.
Students are typically seated in smaller groups for more focused instruction. The
support given is more direct and intensive, often provided by a special education
teacher or specialist. The Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) principle pertains to both
settings. It mandates that students with disabilities should be educated with non-
disabled peers to the greatest extent appropriate, and special classes or separate
schooling should only occur if the nature or severity of the disability prevents
satisfactory achievement in regular classes. In terms of strengths and weaknesses,
inclusion settings promote social interaction and acceptance, but may not provide
enough individualized attention. Resource settings offer more targeted instruction, but
