Part II: Self-Assessment
This week, I had the opportunity to conduct a brief interview with a healthcare professional
located at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, a hospital located in Tallahassee, Florida. During this
interview not only did I get to the luxury of getting to know this health professional, but I was able to
gain insight. On this hospital’s daily operations, strengths, and weakness. Tallahassee Memorial
Healthcare vision is to elevate the standards of healthcare practice quality and innovation in their region.
I believe during this interview; I was able to effectively execute my goal which was to gather information
from this healthcare professional to conduct a SWOT analysis.
Conducting an effective job interview requires significant preparation. For example, numerous
hiring managers fail to adequately prepare for this crucial stage, resulting in expensive hiring errors.
Preparing was my main concern in this interview, I started by first refreshing my memory on SWOT
analyses, this help my gather what kind of question I wanted to ask the interviewee. It was also in my
best interest to do as much research on the person of interest as well. I used LinkedIn application to
understand their career backgrounds. I believe I did a great job preparing and executing this interview to
meet my assignment goals.
Effective communication between healthcare professionals can help foster teamwork, boost
confidence in decisions and improve working relationships. Studies have shown that communication
between healthcare workers is a major contributing factor to clinical effectiveness and job satisfaction
(Sermo, 2023) Active listening is a vital communication skill that plays a significant role in building strong
connections and fostering trust. It involves attentively focusing on the speaker's words, displaying
genuine interest and empathy, and asking relevant questions. By actively listening, you show respect and
appreciation for the other person, while also demonstrating a willingness to understand their
perspective and needs. Additionally, active listening helps prevent misunderstandings and conflicts, and
promotes the discovery of common ground and solutions.
I would have appreciated the opportunity to inquire about the latest medical trends and how
the facility remains up to date with them. This question is designed to evaluate the applicant's interest in
staying informed about various aspects of healthcare, including advancements, technological updates,
and procedural changes. It also emphasizes the expectation for the applicant to readily adapt to evolving
circumstances, which is crucial when working in a patient-oriented office. Medical professionals must
continuously seek opportunities for skill enhancement and prioritize the well-being of their patients. If
the applicant does not express curiosity about recent developments, it may indicate a lack of enthusiasm
towards their profession. Additionally, I would have liked to gain more insight into the facility's methods
for staying current with medical trends if time allowed.
Opportunities that exist for important include integrating telemedicine into the organization, the
safety of patients and professionals is ensured, while simultaneously promoting technological
advancement through remote monitoring of health information systems. This enables healthcare
professionals to remotely monitor patients' vital signs and aid, when necessary, thereby expanding the
accessibility of critical care services. Another opportunity is to attract quality physicians and staff due to
the high employee turnover rates and lack of employees. This is key for the facility to remain competitive
and profitable, it's important to hire talented physicians for your staff. To hire the best, you must create
an environment where the most talented want to work. (Palm Health, 2021)
To improve my future interviews and communication with peers and professionals, I would
implement a strategy to monitor the pacing of the conversation. By doing so, I could gather more
information from the interviewee and cover multiple topics instead of spending a significant amount of
time on one issue.
