Remote Coaching Project: Market Analysis
Estimated Time to Complete:
2 hours
Background
We frequently choose our passions as career paths. It is wise to consider the “market” for our passions. The Occupational Outlook Handbook
lists careers by several useful demographics. It is important to use a variety of search terms to describe a career to ensure you are getting accurate and complete information.
Outcomes
1.
Using the Occupational Outlook Handbook
(or other internet resource)
students will identify the following, comparing at least three job titles (in table format) such as: “Personal Trainer”, “Health Coach”, “Wellness Coach” etc. (9 pts):
1.
The number of personal trainers employed nationwide 2.
The average wage/salary and the factors that influence that wage 3.
The projected growth rate for that job
2.
Students will use the internet to identify what percentage of the personal training/wellness-health coaching market is served with a remote coaching/training model. 3.
Students will use the internet (or any other source such as contacting a coach) to determine how the fee structure in a remote coaching model works. E.g. Do clients in Rexburg pay their coach in New York City Rexburg rates, New York rates or is there a national rate? Tasks
1.
Summarize your findings in the following table. Replace “Job Title 1” with the actual title
etc. Make sure the formatting looks good.

Just before COVID hit, 39 percent of trainers said they did something online. Not necessarily full-time online, but some sort of online fitness business.
By August 2020, that number was 83 percent.
We also asked what they’d be doing once COVID ends: Only 14 percent say they’ll be primarily in the gym. That’s a 75 percent drop from previous levels.

According to ZIP recruiter is it seems that there is not set pay. The average hourly rate for a personal trainer in New York is 29 dollars, and in Rexburg it is 28 dollars. Around the US it seems to be around that number as well. https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/Online-

. Remote Coaching Project: Market Share Identification
Background
The exercise profession attracts people who generally like to work with people. Typically, practitioners will have a group they are hoping to work with. For example, an aspiring physical therapist may envision working with injured elite athletes. The reality, however, is that a large amount of physical therapy serves elderly in a home health model. This example illuminates two things: 1) the need to understand the needs of the largest market share, and 2) what one must do to qualify to serve them.
Outcomes
1)
Students will answer the following questions about two groups: (1-the largest group of potential clients and 2-the student’s preferred target audience):
a.
What are the characteristics of each group of potential clients?
b.
How many potential clients are in each group?
c.
What does each group need, specifically?
d.
how does one become qualified to serve those groups?
Task
Summarize the answers in the following table by using short phrases in bullet points (8 pts).
Largest Group to Be Served: Preferred Target
Audience
Bulleted characteristics
These clients may have reduced mobility, strength, and overall health. They may be dealing with issues such as arthritis, falls, joint replacements, and cardiovascular problems.
Elderly
Number of potential clients
The number of potential elderly clients can vary greatly depending on the specific location and demographics of the area but can be quite substantial,
given the aging population in many countries.
Elderly
Specific Needs
Elderly clients often need services that focus on improving their mobility, balance, and strength.
Rehabilitation and pain management are common needs, as are fall prevention and support in daily activities.
Social and emotional support may also be essential for
their well-being.
Elderly
Skills/Knowledge I need to serve them
Exercise professionals looking to serve the elderly population typically need relevant education and certifications in areas such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, or geriatric fitness.
Continuing education and training in evidence-based practices for geriatric care are often required.
