Good Morning everyone!
Exercise is truly medicine. What it means to exercise is to purposely be making an effort to sustain or improve health and fitness. Exercise is known to prevent 26
different chronic
diseases. Diseases such as cancer, depression, anxiety, cardiovascular, pulmonary, musculoskeletal and metabolic. Some might believe exercising just once a week is beneficial but it is actually recommended that regular* exercise, meaning 3-5 times a week, is what is known to prevent those deadly diseases and depression/anxiety. There is also known to be many changes in the brain that actually enhances the mood and personality. For example, increased self-esteem, sense of involvement and commitment, significantly decrease the risk of Alzheimer's and dementia, having better focus, better sleep and an overall better quality of life. Thus far, it is pretty difficult to deny physical exercise being beneficial.
Some cons of exercise are injuries' might occur, muscle imbalance, fatigue, and stress. Just like any physical activity, injuries can occur but warming up and cooling down, learning the proper technique, listening to your body and stretching are all ways to avoid that. Muscle imbalance is due to upstretched muscles and repetitive strains. Being aware of avoiding injuries will also prevent imbalances occurring. Fatigue and stress are both common in the world of exercise but not always bad. Being fatigued is quite normal in regards to exercising especially if you are not used to doing it regularly. Good news, the more regular you are with exercising, the less you will be fatigued. Stress is a normal component as well because with exercise, especially more intense ones, it can actually initiate a stress response activating the sympathetic-adrenomedullary and hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axes, which in the end, releases the stress hormone. Ways to avoid this occurring during exercise is to gradually increase the intensity of the workout over time to give your body time to adjust. Another
way to avoid this is to control your breathing to stay as relaxed as possible during intense exercising.
Getting the world to be just 1% healthier everyday is a goal worth fighting for. Exercise programs need to stay around for as long as possible and are well worth funding because many individuals enjoy and would not exercise at all, if there was not programs such as yoga classes, gyms, Pilates, CrossFit, and many more. Many people want to workout alongside others because it motivates them and holds them accountable. Programs also encourage personal goals as well as group goals which makes individuals feel involved and needed and most importantly, keeping the community healthy.
