ASSESSMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS 2 Email: cascotch@liberty.edu Article Analysis In the classroom, teachers notice that growth takes place for students when a mistake has been made. When a mistake or error is made in the learning process, it matters, and it is the teacher's responsibility to guide the student with feedback to help them develop the skills needed to overcome it can help improve memory for the student to find the correct answer. There has been research on the importance of being wrong and the effects it has on the learning process. There are three areas of research that support McMillian and Moore (2020), theory: mindset, neurologic research, and self-regulation. Carol Dweck produced research of mindset, and there are two different mindsets a student can have, growth mindset and fixed mindset. She realized that students with a growth mindset would be ok with being wrong and improve from their mistakes. Students with a fixed mindset did not like making mistakes and would be harder on themselves. McMillian and Moore (2020) discussed neurologic students that show a difference in brain chemistry when making mistakes. When a student feared being wrong, they would show brain chemistry that was associated with negative emotions. When a student accepts their mistakes, they release more dopamine to support memory, focus and their interest. McMillian and Moore (2020) refer to self- regulation as the ability to identify learning goals and monitor progress. Students with positive self-regulation can reflect on their performance and see what is needed to improve their abilities. Topic Analysis It is equally important for students to be wrong as well as right because of what students learn from the process. Students not afraid to make mistakes will search for the correct answers
