2 The article by Singh & Srivastava sheds lights on the significant increase in the adoption of social media in India. The articles discusses how individuals rely on social media for making travel decisions such as taking in account of the reviews, options for transportation, and accommodation preferences in their choices. The article also highlights that social media has become a crucial component of the decision-making process for just about all travelers. When I was younger, the use of electronic devices was not popular for travel or leisure. My family would utilized trifold brochures that you would find in the hotel lobby. We used those brochures to find places to visit as a family. We would print out the directions from the computer to use as we traveled, or used a map along the way. With the advancement of technology as I got older, we would start to look at different places to visit on the computer and do research on what others would say about it., As time passed on we where able to use GPS system in our car instead of paper maps or print outs. As someone who is active on social media, I see where others are traveling and what they are experiencing, This give me the ideas I need to be able to plan my next trips. This is very helpful in many ways because I am able to see what locations they are visiting and their experiences. I can also see what activities they are find the most excitement in, as well as what hotels they are using and the amenities they have there. I find that people who tend post their travels on social media also tell you about deals they found that enhanced their experience. I have other friends and family who also utilize social media to plan and out their trips. When I traveled to South Korea I documented the trip on my social media. My friends and family where able to see the places I visited and where I enjoyed eating. They were able to experience what I was experiences through my social media post. My sister, who is also active on social media, saw images and videos of Yellowstone National Park and decided that she
3 wanted to take her husband a child there for a family vacation. Since then, they have been visiting Yellowstone National Park every summer and bringing their travel trailer. My parents, who don’t often use social media for leisure, where able to plan a nice weekend away by searching a small beach town in southern California and seeing the reviews posted by others who have visited in the past. Now they visited the small town of Carpinteria, CA every summer and enjoy the shopping and quiet beaches. With the constant advancement of technology, obtaining useful has become more convenient than ever, helping us in different aspects of our everyday life. With he technology we have now, we can plan our trips accordingly, buy travel tickets or tickets for events. We can also stay up to date on current events and weather at the location we are about to visit. We are now able to check into our flights digitally. We can use our mobile devices for digital pictures and videos and not have to carry around a cameras or video recorder. On top of all this we can communicate always anywhere through text of voice with friends and family. All this can be done with smartphones today. Best of all, if we need to cancel or make changes to our itinerary we can also do that with smartphone. The advancement of technology has given us great convince in your vacation planning processes. Though there are many positives that came with the advancement of technology, there are also several adverse effects that came along as well. For instance when traveling abroad, your carrier service provider may not authorize the use of your data and now you have to scramble and search for a Wi-Fi source to be able to access the internet or be able to make phone calls. If your phone is able to work abroad the cost to use your service would sky rocket. Most unlocked phones will allow you to swap out sim cards so you can use the local service.
