Based on your current favorite choice for a topic/debate within the course theme announcement , answer the following:    A. State your stance within the debate you chose, without using “I.” (1 sentence)     Social media has significantly enhanced personal interactions and relationships by overcoming geographical barriers, fostering community building , and allowing for the expression and support of diverse identities and experiences. B. Why is your stance a good one for an argument research essay? (at least 3 sentences)     It provides a balanced a balanced, evidence-based, and relevant approach to discussing the impact of social media. Also, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of its role in modern interpersonal communication and relationship building. Finally, there are two possible stances, I can support my stance and also address viewpoints that oppose mine.   C. Who might disagree with your stance and why? (at least 3 sentences)       I will discover this when I begin research for this topic, but by brainstorming the people that comes to mind are for example psychologists or mental health experts, they may argue that social media can lead to increased feeling of loneliness, anxiety, and depression. They might emphasize the negative impacts of social media on mental health, especially among young users. Secondly, parents and educators will worry about the youths being exposed to cyberbullying, online predators, and the effect of social media on children’s social skills and academic performance. ©2021 Chamberlain University
Finally, communication experts might argue that social media hinders the development of important communication skills, like empathy and non-verbal cues, which are crucial for deep and meaningful personal relationships. I will need to find a way to address the reasons for different standards and why they are valied. D. Who do you imagine your audience will be? (at least 2 sentences)     I imagine my audience would be students and academic peers, educators and academics, parents and caregivers, technology and social media professionals, policy makers and social workers. In short, the general public, especially those who are regular users of social media, as they can relate the content to their personal experiences. II. In a full paragraph of 7-9 sentences, and without performing any research, please note what you already understand about the debate and what you do not already understand about the debate:     I understand that the impact of social media on personal interactions and relationships is complex. On one hand, proponents of social media argue that these platforms have revolutionized communication, making it easier and more efficient to connect with others regardless of geographical barriers. Social media provides a platform for expression of diverse identities and experiences, contributing to greater visibility and understanding of different perspectives. Social media foster community building enabling individuals to find and engage with communities with similar interests or experiences, which might not be accessible in their immediate physical environment. On the other hand, critics of social media raise concerns about the quality of interactions on these platforms. They argue that social media might encourage more superficial connections at the expense of more meaningful relationships. Theres worries on mental health which links to loneliness, anxiety, and depression. What I don’t fully understand is the extent to which social media’s positive impacts might outweigh the negatives, especially in different demographic groups. It’s unclear how different age groups, cultures or socioeconomic backgrounds might experience the effect of social media differently. ©2021 Chamberlain University

III. Shortly, you will begin scholarly research in the library. This research will help you find opposing viewpoints (sources that disagree with you) and supporting viewpoints (sources that agree with you), as well as information to fill in missing gaps in knowledge you may have. With all three of these goals in mind, please list five possible search phrases you might use when you begin searching in the library.     1: Benefits of social media communication 2: Social media and mental health. 3: Social media in different cultures. 4: Long-term effects of social media usage. 5: Social media and real-life relationships. ©2021 Chamberlain University
