Practical Lab 2 – Switching (VLANs, STP, VTP). This lab is out of 25 marks but will be scaled to a mark out of 5 before being applied to your accumulated lab mark e.g., 20/25 will yield a final accumulated mark for this lab of 4/5. Ensure that you read reach question carefully prior to providing an answer. If you are unclear on any question, please ask your lecturer for assistance. Answer all questions. Save your answers as either a Word document or a PDF. No other format will be accepted. You are not required to provide references in this lab assessment and there are no restrictions on word count. Common sense should dictate using a font style and point size that allows your answers to be clearly read. Answers must be submitted by the due date and time as documented on the 526 – Practical Internetworking subject site on Interact. It is your responsibility to ensure you know what the due date and time is. Work submitted after the due date/time without an approved extension will be penalised 10% for each day late – no exceptions without an extension.
This lab has 25 marks allocated to it as indicated at the end of each question. Use the allocation of marks as a guide to how much is required for each question. Once graded the mark will be scaled to a mark out of 5 for your final Lab 2 mark. Tasks: Using the “Lab 2 (Switching).pkt” Packettracer lab file configure the devices as required in the following tasks and answer all questions on the next page. Tasks to complete in Packettracer. 1. Configure the following basic settings on each of the switches: a. Set the enable password as “Cisco” b. Configure all vty lines to process logins and use the password “Cisco” c. Disable domain lookup on each switch. d. Configure a management IP address, on SVI VLAN1, in the subnet 192.168.1.x/24 where the last octet is the switch number. e. Configure the banner “NO unauthorised access is allowed!” (5 marks) 2. Configure each of the interswitch links as static trunks. (3 marks). 3. Configure VLANs and STP as follows: a. Configure VTP on all switches using the following details: i. VTP domain “ITMasters” ii. VTP password “ITMasters” iii. VTP version 2. iv. SW1 mode: Server, SW2 & SW3 mode : Client b. Configure the following VLANs on the VTP Server: i. VLAN 10: name Students ii. VLAN 20: name Staff c. Configure SW1 such that it will be the STP root for all VLANs. (12 marks)
