#1: 2000 7UP – Show Us Your Can https://videopress.com/v/PbFTCa1J 1) Was the ad informational, emotional, or humorous? –The ad was humorous as it didn’t really display facts about 7up. It also relied on a play on words from the challenge 7up was trying to promote through the advertisement. For example, at the beginning of the ad, the man says that he asked people to send pictures of their cans, implying their 7up cans. Instead, he goes through pictures of people’s butts as a play on words with the word “can”. His reactions to the pictures also created a more humorous atmosphere. 2) Who is the main target audience of the ad (be specific)? –The main target audience of the ad is people who would want to participate in the 7up “show us your can” contest and fans of soda. 7up got real people to send their own pictures to be part of the ad. By promoting their contest, they targeted people who would be interested in sending their own pictures. 7up also targeted soda drinkers because the humorous atmosphere of the advertisement would most likely leave a positive perception of 7up. 3) According to the ad, what benefit(s) does the product give to the target audience? –The advertisement doesn’t specify what benefits the product gives. But the audience can interpret 7up as a soda brand that is funny, as the advertisement focused on humor. It could also create a more” homey” feeling for the brand as the advertisement resembled home TV shows like “America’s Funniest Home Videos” because the ad featured funny photos of real people. Because they featured real people, it also gave 7up a more relaxed and family-friendly tone.
#2: 2005 VERIZON – VCast Miniaturization https://www.superbowl-ads.com/2005-verizon-vcast-miniaturization/ 1) Was the ad informational, emotional, or humorous? – The ad was both informative and humorous. It was humorous in the sense that it showed people being miniature, but it was also informative because it discussed how Verizon would let you play videos on the smaller screen of your phone. At the end of the commercial, it shows Shaq in his miniature size, which is humorous because Shaq is known to be extremely large. Midway through the ad, it went over Verizon’s new Vcast feature, which would allow users to watch video and movie trailers on their phones. 2) Who is the main target audience of the ad (be specific)? – The main target audience of the ad would be consumers who were interested in new technology and those with mobile devices. As this ad featured new multimedia technology, tech-savvy people and people who were interested in new multimedia forms were likely the target audience. This is because the product would allow entertainment to be easily accessible through mobile devices. This could also mean that the commercial would be targeted at those who are always on the go and want entertainment at the same time. 3) According to the ad, what benefit(s) does the product give to the target audience? – The ad provided that Vcast Miniaturization would allow consumers to access mobile entertainment. For example, they would be able to watch sports, the news, or movie trailers all from their phones. Another benefit is the miniaturization. In other words, the audience wouldn’t need bulky equipment to access entertainment. Instead, everything would be much more sleek
and convenient. Lastly, the advertisement makes the audience believe that Verizon is at the forefront of technology because they present their product as if it were a breaking discovery. In fact, they literally have a breaking news segment about the product in the ad. #3: 2010 FLOTV- My Generation https://www.superbowl-ads.com/flotv-my-generation-superbowl-commercial/ 1) Was the ad informational, emotional, or humorous? – The ad was emotional by showcasing different moments and memories throughout different generations. For example, it displayed many historical and pop culture events like the civil rights movement, Spongebob, and the moon landing. This emphasizes the universal experiences created over time. By featuring different eras, the ad creates a sense of nostalgia for the audience. The ad definitely displays that FloTV would create a bridge between different generations, creating a positive association with FloTV. 2) Who is the main target audience of the ad (be specific)? – The main target audience of the ad is multigenerational viewers and families. The ad appeals to different age groups, such as those from older generations who would feel nostalgic towards the older scenes. It would also appeal to those who are younger and appreciate the timelessness of technology. This ad could also have been targeted towards families, not only because families are multigenerational but also because the ad emphasizes creating a bond with each other despite a generational distance. 3) According to the ad, what benefit(s) does the product give to the target audience?
