“Shakespeare in the Bush.” 5. Did you discover any ethnocentrism in Bohannon's article? From whom, and what did they say? Yes, I would say that I did notice ethnocentrism in the article through both ends. The “Old man” Bohannon speaks of had a hard time, believing her when it came to the mentions of ghost when she talks about the three watchmen, seeing the dead chief, he cut her off, “impossible” he says, “Of course it wasn't the dead chief. It was an omen sent by a witch” However, I believe that Bohannon too was showing some ethnocentrism. While she didn't downright voice it, obviously there are cultural differences between them, and I noticed some frustration when they weren't grasping the so-called “universal interpretation” of hamlet. “Eating Christmas in the Kalahari.” 3. What does Lee mean by saying, “There are no totally generous acts”? Do you agree? I think what Lee meant by saying “There are no totally generous acts”, is that there are no generous acts without some form of personal gain behind it. And I would say I agree with that statement. While I believe that there are people who can commit kind acts because they want to do good for others, I also believe they do it for themselves. For some, giving to others or being generous to others, makes them feel good. So in turn because they feel so good, they continue to do it to chase the serotonin and dopamine that they receive. As humans, we all chase the feeling we get when our dopamine or serotonin levels increase in some way. That's why some people do drugs, or why others tend to be so generous or so, giving because at the end of the day, we all get something out of it. For example, that's why you'll see people on social media recording themselves doing nice things for the homeless. Because when they post, they know they'll get likes and attention and in turn their dopamine levels increase, which makes them want to keep doing it. “Using Anthropology.” 1. What kinds of jobs do professional anthropologists do? Professional anthropologists can do a wide range of jobs. They don't just include teaching at colleges or doing scholarly research, they can get jobs working at nutritional fields or at car manufacturers researching how employees settle to working in certain conditions and environments. They can work in advertising and so much more. Anthropology can be helpful and beneficial in so many fields that go beyond just teaching.
