Anatomical Terminology
Objectives:
1.
Describe the anatomical position verbally, by demonstration, and in drawings.
2.
Describe the body planes (see list below).
3.
Recognize the body planes on models and diagrams.
4.
Describe the location of common anatomical landmarks.
5.
Identify common anatomical landmarks on models and diagrams.
6.
Describe the anatomical directions (use proper anatomical terminology).
7.
Identify anatomical directions on models and diagrams.
8.
Identify the major body cavities on models and diagrams.
9. Name the major organs found in each body cavity.
10.
Identify the abdominopelvic quadrants on models and diagrams.
11.
Identify the 9 abdominopelvic regions on models and diagrams.
1. Using your textbook and the picture below, define at least three characteristics of anatomical position.
Anatomical position
Laying flat on your back or standing facing forward, arms extended to your side, and palms facing out. 2. Define the following anatomical directional terms and then do the questions below:
Superior/inferior
Above/below
Anterior/posterior
Front/back
Medial/lateral
Toward the midline/ away from the midline
Dorsal/ventral
Back/ front
Proximal/distal
close to the center of the point of attachment/ away from the center of the point of attachment
Superficial/deep
Toward the surface/ away from the surface
Here are some questions for you to try: bold and highlight the correct answer.

k. The chin is (
superior / inferior) to the navel.
