Explain how the change could have been managed more effectively? PHOTOS ARE FOR REFERENCE.
Fred said, "I had hoped to keep this quite until I could announce the change to everyone at once. Yes,
it's true. The new software is much more powerful than what we're currently using, and it has new
features that will really help us in the future. Besides, we're getting a good price on the software
because we'll be among the first in our industry to make the change-over."
Dante said, "But isn't it bad to be among the first to use new software? Don't some companies like to let
other companies experiment first and then adopt it after it appears that everything works okay?"
Glen said, "Dante's right. One of our old vice presidents who left for a big promotion said that it's better
to be safety behind the leading edge of information technology. One of the wags around here likes to
say we're on the bleeding edge of technology."
Fred said, "This isn't leading-edge software. It's been out for a year now and lots of companies in other
industries are using it. We need to get on with the change and quit dragging our heels. This software will
be the new standard and we'll be better off making the change now rather than waiting until our
competitors change over."
Cole said, "Il agree with Rebecca. New software always sounds great on paper. But I've heard that when
you start to work with the new software, the new features just make your computer run slower. And,
the added features are kind of a waste because most people never use them."
Fred said, "Listen, you can complain all you want, but it's not going to change anything. Just get used to
it. We're going to have to make the change, and I think it's a good. move. Telling doom-and-gloom
stories about the new software isn't going to help. You need to adopt a positive attitude and embrace
the new change. You'll see that we'll be better off with this new software. Besides, it's useless to try to
resist new technology. I'll send out a memo about the change next week. I've got to run to a meeting
with the vice presidents."
After Fred left, Cole said, "Do any of you know why we have so much security where the computers that
support the systems 'are located? Back in the 1990's one of the employees got so frustrated with the
company that he threw buckets of water on the computers. Can you imagine how frustrated he was?I
heard that when the police arrested him away he was mumbling something about changes in software.

CASE 1: NEW DATABASE SOFTWARE
Dante Mendoza spotted Rebecca Noble at the other side of the cafeteria and walked over to sit down at
her table. Dante said, "Have you heard the latest? We're going to change database - software.",
Rebecca said, "Who told you that? This isn't another of those rumors, is it? I've just recovered from the
last change in software."
Dante said, "I have a friend, Angelita Brown, who used to work in this section. She moved over to
corporate procurement a couple of years ago. Anyway, last week she saw contracts for new database
software."
Just then Glen Viernes and Cole York walked up to the table. Rebecca said, "have you heard that we're
changing database software again? Glen groaned, "Not again! I've still got a few files that I haven't
converted from the previous software. Most of us have only recently learned the present software well
enough to feel comfortable. How are we going to learn all of this new stuff while we take on these new
accounts from the merger?"
Cole said, "I heard about this new software from a friend whose Company implemented it last summer.
It's so complex that it takes almost a year to really learn it well. In fact, at my friend's company a couple
of people quit their jobs because of the software."
Dante said, "This is going to be a disaster. The last time we switched software the whole system was
messed up for months. The worst problem was when we found errors in the conversion and people had
to go back and trace through the data to do corrections."
As the four of them walked back to their office they ran into their boss, Fred Ruiz. Glen said, "we've
heard rumors that we're going to change database software. Are they true?"
Fred said, "I had hoped to keep this quite until I could announce the change to everyone at once. Yes,
it's true. The new software is much more powerful than what we're currently using, and it has new
