Empowerment Approach to Human Services Management Paper Vivian Martinez BSHS/425 October 20, 2014 Staci Lowe Empowerment Approach to Human Services Management Paper In organizational decision making, many individuals should be involved in order to ensure that everyone involved or touched by organizational activities in one way or another is not affected negatively by the decisions made and arrived at by decision makers. Consulting widely before making a decision enables decision makers in the organization make all-round and informed decisions, and decisions that satisfy anyone who is in any way connected to the organization (Donna, 2012). In an organization, clients are the ones who are served by the organization. The …show more content…
Prices of the different products and services of the organization should be market specific. The economic capability and disposable income of clients should be put into consideration in setting prices for the products and services offered by the organization. By matching prices with the economic capability of a people, it would be much easier to for customers to access the products and services without straining or having to compromise and going for other products of lower quality (Donna, 2012). Services to consumers of the products and services of the organization would be heightened since the kind of services offered determines whether customers are retained and it is a means of attracting new customers. Workers in the organization would be expected to treat clients with respect and serve them diligently so that they feel welcome. Workers who are directly interacting with clients would have a set code of conduct that would guide their actions. Mishandling customers inappropriately would be subject to penalties. Meeting Diverse Cultural Needs Since people and customers to be specific come from different cultural backgrounds, considering and understanding the cultural background and practices of every market niche. In ensuring that the organizational activities do not conflict with the cultures of clients and that they suit the needs of the cultures, the following would be done by the organization;
Evidence has linked a strong relationship between spirituality and medicine. There is a positive correlation between a patient’s spirituality or religious commitment and health outcomes. A spiritual assessment as a part of a health assessment is a practical step to incorporating patient’s spiritual needs into practice. The FICA Tool and HOPE Questions provide serve to assist clinicians in the spiritual assessment process. By examining the research done using these tools, it has been determined that the FICA Tool is easy to use and provides basic data on a patient’s spirituality. The FICA tool is both reliable and valid. The HOPE Questions are
For health care providers to deliver the best holistic care that patients deserve, a thorough spiritual assessment must be included during their care. With more research showing a relationship between supporting a patient’s spirituality with their health and ability to cope with illness, it is now a requirement of organizations to include a spiritual assessment to maintain accreditation with The Joint Commission. The minimum required of a spiritual assessment by The Joint Commission is to determine the patient’s religion and
Hope Haslam Straughan Within the social work profession, there is a growing movement affirming that spirituality and religious beliefs are integral to the nature of the person and have a vital influence on human behavior (Hugen, 1998). Canda (1988) identifies spirituality as a basic aspect of human experience, both within and outside the context of religious institutions. If a social worker is going to approach a person in a holistic manner, he or she must be willing to consider each person as a wondrous compilation of bio-psycho-social-spiritual elements. In this way, workers will have an extremely broad base from which to approach the strength and resiliency in the people with whom they interact.
Social work is very diverse, there is not one sole solution, or strength metaphor which can cover all fields. However, there are assessments which can be applied to certain situations, given the practitioners beliefs. “Accessing Clients Strengths: Clinical Assessment for Client Empowerment” is an article written by Charles D. Cowger, and is based on a mainstream contextual understanding that the primary goal of social work is to assist individuals with their relationship to others, and to institutions in a way to promote social and economic justice with regards to the importance of a client strengths perspective for assessment, which, proposes 12 practice guidelines to foster a strengths perspective(Cowger, 1994, p.262).Theory of strengths assessment focuses on two aspects of empowerment, personal empowerment and social empowerment. Personal empowerment dynamic recognizes the uniqueness of each client and their ability to take charge and control of their lives and their own betterment process. The social empowerment dynamic states that personal empowerment is related to opportunity and that individuals behaviors are derived from society. Through social empowerment, the individual plays a key role in shaping their surrounding and vise versa by having various opportunities and access to certain resources.

Spirituality is a delicate topic, and some may not be open to talking about their beliefs. Spirituality is generally understood to be an essential aspect of being human (Lyndo-Lam, 2012). Assessing the spiritual needs of patients is a key component in the nursing process. A compassionate and thoughtful nurse can make a patient feel more secure, making it easier for him to express his spirituality. The participation of both patient and health care provider is vital in promoting spiritual health. The main focus of a spiritual assessment is to gather information regarding the patient’s spiritual needs in order incorporate them into the plan of care, so as to treat
Spirituality is important because it “… actually transcends the categories of individual functioning and environmental systems. Spirituality can shape beliefs and provide strength during times of adversity, and the link to a faith community can be a tangible sourge of assistance and social support” (Hepworth, Rooney, Rooney, Strom-Gottfried 2017, p. TBD). In assessing clients, it is critical that we make sure that clients have a support system. A support system can be defined in all sorts of ways, one of which is spirituality. Keeping a client’s spirituality in mind during the assessment phase is also important because it allows us insight into why clients believe the things that they do. If a client believes something that sounds alarming to us as a social worker, we might ned to step back and say, “Wait a minute… what is client’s spiritual or religous background? Is there anything in this area that might explain those beliefs?”. If so, that would be a definite aide in avoiding pathologising behavior that might otherwise be explained by looking at other areas of the client’s background. Just because a client’s background is different from the social worker doing the assessment does not mean it is necessarily pathological or maladaptive, and we must keep this in mind while doing each and every client
Spirituality. Beyond being a term that generally conjures up vague images of religion and contemplation, what exactly does it mean and why is it important? First, spirituality is not equivalent to religion. It can be connected to religion and religious beliefs, but it is much broader in scope, including a sense of meaning, purpose, and belonging. It is the core of one’s being and it affects, connects, and transcends all aspects of being. Therefore, spirituality has a profound impact on everyone’s lives whether they realize it or not. This paper will explore personal aspects of Valerie’s spirituality through a basic spiritual assessment and the impact it has on her personal life and care for future patients.
There are many cultural and ethical differences between countries and it is important for mutual trust and respect that no organization try to strong-arm another into their way of thinking or take a position that their culture is more valuable than the other. According to Pitta, Fung, and Isberg (1999), it is vital for success to have a basic understanding of the culture and the expectations within cultures as they affect all business transactions. Failing to understand and consider the cultural differences will likely result in failure.
There are many different impacts that culture has on the way business is conducted; cultural systems of values and beliefs lead to specific interpretations of events and interactions, and different demands and expectations for business relationships often exist for individuals from different cultural backgrounds. Engaging in international and multicultural business requires a level of understanding and awareness of specific cultural issues that might arise due to different customs, perspectives, and values, and a general awareness of the influence of culture is a good thing in business as well as it allows for ongoing learning and consideration without rushing to judgment. Through both a specific and a general understanding of cultural issues in business, more effective strategies for conducting business on an international level can be developed and implemented. The following paragraphs provide specific examples from four differently cultures, identifying the importance of cultural understanding in all international dealings.
Spirituality is an important factor to consider when providing care to patients. Personal spirituality can influence one’s perspective of health care delivery. Specifically, it can impact how we feel about sensitive topics such as abortion, euthanasia, and advance directives can affect our ability to establish genuine connections with patients and families considering these options. Outlined below are my personal reflections to the Spiritual Assessment questions presented in this assignment.
This assignment will examine two famous multi-national companies on their application of cultural aspects and analyze how successfully they have applied those aspects and reasons for their success.
Understanding different cultures is an important aspect for managers to grasp. The way one represents them, can have everlasting impacts on how a company is perceived. For this reason, it is important to understand the demographic of people you are trying to reach, and take the necessary precautions to not offend the culture of others. As mentioned by NACHC (2008) culture can be defined as different social practices, forms of expression, and different values. The impression that one receives from individuals of a culture, may influence the way they are seen by members of a different culture.
While business strategy plays a key role in successful collaboration and building a global brand, understanding the culture of the country being invested in is paramount. The culture dictates the methodology and approach for numerous operating models and a lack of research and understanding of the culture can quickly lead to demise for a company seeking to expand. A considerable amount of companies fail to complete substantial or intensive research before expanding their businesses beyond the United States border (Chung & Smith, 2007) and as a result do not set themselves up for optimal success. An area of extreme significance for the business in which the understanding of the local culture has far reaching effects is marketing. The onus is on management to do their research and put together a marketing team that understands the cultural dynamics and can tailor a marketing package that suits that dynamic (Jensen, 2015). In preparing their product or service for market, management needs to critically review the marketing strategy to ensure the marketing strategy is localized to the culture being operated in and is not part of a one size fits all marketing strategy.
Hence to support innovations made towards marketing strategies that aim at adapting to cultural distinctions. As culture is one of the main determinants for product sale, it is important to understand the differences that require implementation of proper modifications. Changes must be made to adapt and suit the various needs and wants originating from cultural contrasts.
