Why George should not have killed Lennie in the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck Would killing your bestfriend the one you do everything together solve a problem when they get into some trouble? George and Lennie are good friends and then Lennie gets into deep trouble when he kills someone on the rach causing George to kill him because he think she has no other choice because the ranchers go after him. George and Lennie travel together everywhere and go everywhere with each other and they also go to the ranch to work while they are at the ranch some things go on to cause George to kill Lennie, Lennie could have been put in jail or killed by some of the angry workers so George killed Lennie for his own good. George should not have not killed Lennie because there could have been others options to survive or other things to do like run away or go to another town. …show more content…
Lance Anderson a 63 year old man who shot his wife and sister because of “mercy killings” told his wife, 68 year old Maxine Anderson “ I’m sending you home” (Qtd. Serna). Just like when George tells Lennie to say something and then shoots him same idea with the Andersons. A pharmaceutical millionaire Gigi Jordan admits to killing her 8 year old autistic son a defense lawyer Allen Brenner asks her “ Did you climb on top of him pinch his nose, grab his jaw to forcibly open his mouth and force liquified drugs down his throat?’’(Qtd. Rosenburg). This shows how she forced her son to die even though he was living fine, just like Lennie when George killed him but there was other options. The evidence shows how Lennie should not have been killed because “mercy killings” are wrong and that there are other options George could choose
But if the other outcome is worse, you're obligated/called to do the right/more humane outcome. Most people would agree with this statement in almost every other situation, but when you substitute it into context here it's no different. Many people who have read the book agrees George and Lennie had a special connection/best friends and many say friends don't kill each other. When you take a deeper look at this statement it justifies even more why George did the right thing, and shouldn't get punished. Since they had a special connection, George cared for him so much that he knew the right thing to do is to let him go and die happily, peacefully, with no struggle. Also by someone who cares for him, then someone who hates him, no matter how much it would hurt himself to do it.
By killing Lennie in John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice And Men, George protected himself, prevented unnecessary harm from coming to Lennie, and ultimately, he let Lennie die happy.
In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie learn to travel and experience the world together as they take on a new job working on a ranch in central California "bucking barley" for the ranch owner and his son. Lennie, not being able to control his actions, hurts too many people and things and men were chasing after the two, so George decides to take action and shoot Lennie. Although some may disagree, George did the right thing by shooting Lennie because he could not have avoided hurting someone else in the future, he could not eventually learn that the things he did were wrong due to his disability, and he could not learn to eventually control his own strength.
In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck George kills his best friend Lennie. George’s reasoning for this is that Lennie is killing too many people and has become a burden. Lennie does not realize that he is doing wrong by accidentally killing animals and people. George says that he is doing this for other’s benefit when really he is doing this for his own good. This was wrong of George and he is guilty because even though Lennie was accidentally
If you had the choice of doing what is in your best friend’s interest, would you consider it? What if the friend’s death was a factor? In the story of Mice and Men, George may have taken Lennie's life, but he made the decision for the better interest of his friend. He knew that Curley and his men would kill Lennie, he would suffer and/or be placed in jail. George made the justified decision of killing Lennie because it was the better choice of Lennie’s foreseen future. Therefore, George was morally justified for shooting Lennie for merciful reasons.
The mice and Men so the prompt that I chose was what would happen if George went with Lennie Instead of killing him .So I think George went with Lennie I think there friend ship would last longer and they would get along more and they would have a great time In some ways . So like George would been cool and not to kill Lennie at all and they would have a lot of great things to talk about other greats thing they knew and I don’t think George would have a really great time with Lennie I don’t think, he would not kill Lennie at all . But however In George's eyes, he was saving Lennie, doing him a favor. He felt that the angry mob would have punished Lennie beyond what he deserved, and he also believed that Lennie may continue to hurt people if he lived.
In conclusion, I believe that overall in the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck ,George was not a good friend to Lennie. George did take care of Lennie but,in my point of view, not because he actually cared for Lennie.George never once mentions how he cares for Lennie or how much he loves his companionship but does mention how easy life would be without him and if if they were related he would kill himself .Yes George looked over him and stuck by him but in most cases Lennie would have been better of being with someone
The Great Depression affected millions of people in America, two of those people affected were George and Lennie. George and Lennie are migrant workers that struck a job in California. George can be described as the brains of the partnership, while Lennie is more of the muscle. In the story Lennie has a fascination with feeling soft objects. This later gets them in trouble in the town of Weed. Once they get to the job, they go months will no big problems. Until, Lennie accidentally killed The owner’s son’s wife. After this happened Lennie ran off, and all the workers went to go find him and kill him. George does find Lennie before any of the other workers, and even with the chance to escape, he shoots Lennie. In John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, the murder of Lennie was not Justified.
In John Steinbeck's classic novella, Of Mice and Men, George makes the decision of killing Lennie because he knows it is in Lennie's best interest. His act of killing Lennie is not considered criminal. George has good intentions in killing his companion. George is trying to prevent Lennie from being tortured and from his constant desire to please George and not cause trouble. Additionally, Lennie repeatedly places himself in difficult situations, and as a result, brings George into the circumstances. There is a close friendship between George and Lennie, and George had carefully thought out whether or not he
Would you be willing to kill your best friend, your brother or sister, your person? George a farmer, had a hard decision to make whether or not he should kill his brother, his best friend. Did George make the right choice? George and Lennie were brothers who were always on the move farming since they left weed. George was considered a small and weak man who guarded and protected Lennie at all costs. Lennie was considered the opposite of George, he was a tall, strong man, and was loyal to George, but Lennie had the mind of a child. Although others believe George did not make the right choice in killing Lennie, George’s decision was best because due to the fact that Lennie would have had lived a harsh life in prison, he would have deteriorated
I feel as if it was justifiable for george to kill lennie because its was right and had to be done in order for not just george to be free but lennie as well. By saying that i mean that lennie basically had no chance of escaping alive, nor free.
Although many believe that George killing Lennie was beneficial to him, his act of euthanasia was not justified. There are many controversies on the topic of euthanasia and whether it should be legal or not. In many cases the act was justified- it’s what they wanted. In other cases the act was not justified. A doctor or other person went against their wishes and ended their life without their consent. The doctor may believe that that is what is best for the victim at the time, but the victim and their family may say otherwise. There are also cases where the victim was not conscious and was not able to tell the doctor what they want with themselves and then it’s up to their family. There are times when family- or in Lennie’s case, friend- thinks they know what is best but they really do not. It could cause some legal issues later that could lead to massive amounts of guilt for ending that person’s life or even more legal punishments later on.
I’m arguing why George should have killed Lennie in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.Curley was going to make Lennie’s death painful anyways. Curley was mad about his hand and losing his wife so he thought he would shoot Lennie.”Ill shoot him in the guts”(Steinbeck).Lennie was going to die either way so why not just get it over with.George should have shot Lennie because he may be slower but being slower does not get you out of murder.George should have killed Lennie when he saw Curley’s wife’s dead body because he got nervous and scared for him because George knew what the guys were going to do to him .”I know what I have to do” (Steinbeck) I think the quote proves my point because George knows he is going to have to kill Lennie.Lennie
Warren Leen Hill, a man with an IQ of 70, was put to death Tuesday for a murder despite international protest that Georgia was executing a man with a child's intellect(Georgia executes man with low IQ). Georgia should have not executed a man with such a low IQ because he did not know what he was doing. This is almost exactly like Lennie from Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck as Lennie killed Curley’s wife; Lennie did not know that he was causing Curley's wife pain or killing her and both men are mentally retarded. People that think that George should be punished do not realize that the death was an act of protection with Lennie's best interest in mind. George should not be punished for killing Lennie because Lennie did not know what he was doing, George realized that Lennie would never get better so the dream would never come true and George was being merciful to Lennie.
The sound rang in your ears, his limp body fell to the ground, and your hand shook with the weight of your gun, and the blood of the person you just killed; your best friend. In Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George’s best friend is lying dead in front him, Lennie, who like George is just a character but is mentally disabled. And although Lennie may have killed Curley’s wife and is now in danger, George murdering Lennie doesn’t solve any issues. George was not justified in killing Lennie because they could’ve run away like they did in Weed, George betrayed Lennie’s trust, and by killing Lennie George shows he is a hypocrite to his own rules.
