What is the Definition of a Hero? When one thinks of heroes, names such as Ghandi, Martin Luther King, and Mother Theresa often come to mind. These people had done a lot of favors, courage, helps, and more of things for the people who needed them. The true definition of hero is a man of distinguished valor. Bravery, courage, intrepidity, boldness, daring, and prowess in war are a hero’s characteristics. However a hero is understood to be different to everyone. Some individuals living in poverty with a determination to succeed work hard all of their lives to become what everybody doubted they could. Despite of their financial problems, drug and crime surroundings, or difficulties in the language skills, their desire to triumph fuels their persistence. Those who make it to success are the few living examples of the purest form of hero anyone can be. They are not only their own heroes but also the heroes of the poor children who dream of becoming like them someday. Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives can be a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country. Even a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. The definition of a hero. A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Another definition is the main male character in a story, play or film. Let’s think about this for a minute. What does the stereotypical hero look like? Chiseled features and some sort of tight costume or uniform. They display qualities such as bravery, immortality, and an undying devotion to the longevity of the human race. Oh, and don’t forget their superhuman powers; speed, strength, mind reading etc. Does a hero always have to demonstrate physical strength? Does he always have to save the human race in a valiant act of pure courage? What truly defines a hero in every sense of the word? I believe acts of perseverance and emotional strength suit this word more accurately. Or, those who save the human race by teaching and encouraging us to save ourselves.
The idea of a true hero is varied from person to person, because each viewpoint has a different idea of the personality that makes one a hero. What makes someone a hero? In today society the criteria of what a hero is or is not maybe confused by what should be constitutes heroism. Some feel that the word hero gets throw around way too much, for example to celebrity, public safety personnel, the average Human, and especially service man and women the ones that have fought for their county. A hero is not a movie character. A hero is not someone who never fails. A hero is not someone who does something valiant when he has nothing to lose and something to gain. I have a hero in my life. My hero is my lovely mother. She showed me the right path in life. She taught me what’s right and erroneous and I thank her for that.
