Oasis dental care realise that welfare of the patient is essential so safeguarding is taken seriously. Special emphasis is put on the safeguarding of the child and it’s involve:
1) Listening to child
- Carefully and taking child seriously
- explaining child treatment and seeking his consent on the side of parent’s consent, interesting in child feedback- getting child involved
2) Providing child with information
- Give a help if there is crises in the family
3) Provide safe environment for child
- There have to be chaperone present in the room when young person is treated (under 16 years of age)
- Offer young adult if he wants to be seen alone or with parent (over 16)
4) Having procedures and policies in the place

Who should you report abuse to?
It’s usually manager or safeguarding leader who will look in the case and if necessary contact appropriate organisation.
Keeping records
All records of the visits, discussions, personnel contacted + discussions with them- all this should be recorded immediately without delay. In some cases diagrams or photographs will be necessary. Where referral have been made e.g. to general practitioner, they should be contacted again within 24h to check if the child arrived for appointment. This should be recorded too.
Responsibilities of the dental team:
Any statements of abuse must be treated seriously, reported and investigated as soon as possible. All staff must be alert to possible abuse and inform appropriate colleague about this matter. All staff is also responsible for their safeguarding CPD been up to
When someone tells you that they are being abused you should always follow your company’s policies and procedures, listen and not to judge or asking leading and closed questions. Let the person tell you in their own words what has or is happening. Give reassurance to the individual and take the accusation seriously it may have taken the persons to build up a lot of confidence to speak out. Record it on the appropriate paper in the appropriate way and you should always date and sign the paperwork, if there are any witnesses then get them to also sign and date. All schools have policies and procedures in place to support staff in their management of situations these may involve violence, threatening behaviour or abuse amongst other policies which are all legal requirements within the setting of a school, you must adhere to these policies and familiarise yourself on where these policies can be found within the school surroundings.
