What may be hard to see is that hunger is everywhere. Yes, hunger is in Africa and third-world countries, but also in the United States. Childhood hunger is nearly a bigger issue than overall hunger in the United States. Studies show that hunger among children has a higher percentage than hunger as a whole (Feeding America 28). It is found that children suffer from food insecurity in every county in the United States (Feeding America 30). It is easy to sit back and think that everyone has the financial and physical means to find food, but they do not. Hunger in America can be hard to recognize. With how the economy is now, the effects of hunger are more severe. Many Americans are relying on food stamps and private organizations to help with this crisis. Millions in this nation are currently suffering from hunger in America. Half of that being from job loss. More than 12,000,000 children suffer from food insecure hunger because of limited or uncertain access to nutritious food. About 900,000 are hungry in the three- country Detroit metropolitan area alone. The hardest hits are the elderly, the unemployed, immigrants, and the mentally and physically impaired.

Poverty is one of the main causes of child hunger. Most people that live in poverty can't afford to buy food. All the money they have goes to housing bills.

Nowadays, hunger is not only linked with food it is also related to the family income level, also, it represents the feeling of starving to the time that it is disturbing or even frustrating. Another cause for child hunger is unemployment. Many parents have lost their jobs due to the recession. Just like people that live in poverty, parents don't have enough money for bills and food costs. In some cases, there is a choice that has to be made between paying bills and buying food. This causes parents to fight about money problems and this effect kids because they feel stressed ("Hungry Kids").

A problem that I would like to solve is world hunger. This is a major problem, and cannot be solved over night. I think the best way to go about this would be to set up some kind of donation system in America, to eliminate hunger in America, and then take it all over the world. The donation system would ideally be funded by the government and the taxpayers.The way I want this to work is that people would pay a little more in taxes to fund it. Donations could be made outside taxes, and stores could donate leftover or unsold products, like fresh-made bakeries that didn't sell everything they made in a day. Hunger, that word is not spoken often in America because many Americans believe that hunger does not exist in America. Mother of five, Cynthia, has a steady job at a nursing home as well as a supportive husband yet struggles to feed her family on a daily basis. Like many other Americans she does not qualify for government assistance because she makes too much; in her case thirty eight dollars too much. In cases like Cynthia’s, options seem incredibly limited and there is often no assistance for feeding her family (abcnews). Over 12 million children under the age of eighteen in the United States are food insecure. Meaning they are unable to consistently access adequate amounts of nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. More than three million children under the age of five are food insecure (Insecurity2012).

In conclusion hunger is not a problem that only the United States of America deals with. This is a problem the whole world is dealing with some more than others. This is something that we all have in common. And we are all trying to fix it different ways.There have been things put into place to help. The national emergency hunger rate is one of them. Child hunger is when kids don 't have enough to eat. It 's not the type of hunger where you crave a bowl of ice cream at night. This is the type of hunger where your stomach hurts because you didn 't eat all day long. The big problem about this is that without getting the proper food and nutrition, children are not able to fulfill their potential. Good nutrition, particularly in the first three years of life, is important for establishing a good foundation that has implications for a child’s future physical and mental health, academic achievement, and economic productivity. Unfortunately, food insecurity is an obstacle that threatens that critical foundation. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 15.8 million children under 18 in the United States live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. Although food insecurity is harmful to any individual, it can be particularly devastating among children due to their increased vulnerability and the potential for long-term consequences.

Hunger throughout the world in not only present in poor countries such as Haiti, China, and India; hungry and malnourished infants, children, and adults are everywhere, even America.
