Walden Mission Statement

My initial interest in nursing began from my experience with my grandmother. It was in the fall of 2007 when my grandmother was sent to the hospital due to hypernatremia. My dad would pick me up every afternoon from school to visit my grandmother. I was given the responsibility to look after my grandma for nearly two weeks that includes in feeding her, assisting her, and other light duties. What fascinate me during my visits in the hospital were the nurses who assisted and took care of my grandma. They treated my grandma with dignity, kindness, compassion, courtesy, respect, understanding, and love. Their commitment, professionalism, dedication, determination and skills inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field. From that point, I realized that nursing is a field that enables people impact other people’s lives and make a difference. At 9 years old, being a nurse was a childhood dream and now I am at the point of turning my dream into reality. I want to study and pursue my dream registered nursing at Ryerson University that offers a nursing degree program that focuses on developing student’s critical thinking skills, ability to analyze reflectively and apply theory through community health focused practice making Ryerson one of the best nursing schools in Canada.

I agree with Walden University’s (2013a) view on social change that “Walden supports social change through the development of principled, knowledgeable, and ethical scholar-practitioners, who are and will become civic and professional role models by advancing the better of society” (para. 4). I plan to incorporate social change in my profession by applying my past work experiences and knowledge from school to become a better professional role model to my patients, co-workers and community. An example of one learning outcome for the Master of Science in Nursing is to “exhibit ongoing commitment to professional development” (Walden University, 2013b, para. 3). I am constantly trying to learn new ways to improve and better my knowledge and education. I recently obtained my Certified Emergency Nurse certification and will soon be taking the Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse exam. I only hope that with my past experiences and my future knowledge gained at Walden University, I will be able to become a professional advocate and role model for the future of pediatric care and the patient population thereof.

Nursing is a career which I believe that needs to come from the heart and I have at all times appreciated with respect. My aim in doing my education in nursing was because I always wanted to achieve an extended and successful profession in the health and medical field. I suppose the responsibilities of a nurse can be very demanding and frantic in certain instances but nothing can be equal to the joy and satisfaction it brings. There are many specialized areas in the field of nursing but I was particular interested in the mental health field. Health care is a fundamental element to sustaining the welfare of our society. The ability to become a student in the Grand Canyon University (GCU), Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program, takes me one step closer to being able to achieve my dream of playing a vital role in helping our society towards disease prevention. My experience in the acute care setting has reinforced my passion in disease prevention and health preservation. My short term goal is to be able to successfully complete the required course work. Secondly, I want to be able to acquire the necessary certifications to be able to practice as a FNP. The program at GCU will provide me with the knowledge, and skills I will need to effectively develop my role. As a short term goal, obtaining this postgraduate degree in Counseling Psychology and upgrade my career exposure to smoothen my plans to work as a certified & registered psychotherapist and counselor. For my long term goal, I intend to set up a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation clinic which will provide and offer services such as mental health related counseling services, massage therapy for patients suffering from acquired brain injuries and physical therapies.

I am a mental health nurse in Georgia State, and I currently work with the Veterans at VA medical center in Atlanta. I am presently pursing an advanced practice nursing education with concentration in family practice nurse practitioner program.

Core beliefs are all around in every book, text, and paper. Yet, to find them it does take a little thinking. The core beliefs can be found in writings, such as, transcendentalism. Transcendentalism was a type of writing that showed idealist philosophical and social movements in New England around the 1830’s. Some of the writes of this type of writing was Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. These two had a few transcendental texts with lots of core beliefs. They had almost all of the five core beliefs in them like importance of nature, nonconformity, confidence, self reliance, and confidence. The core belief that stood out the most between Emerson’s writing, From Nature, and Thoreau’s writing, Walden or Life in the Woods, was the importance of nature. In Nature by Emerson and Walden by Thoreau there are similar connections back to the importance of nature which can be broken up into society is bad, importance of land, and nature has wisdom.

Nursing 501 was a great way to start my graduate school education. Learning about ethics and health policy really allowed me to reflect on different aspects of healthcare that make up this complex system. To start off I was introduced to the different roles in advanced practice nursing and their influence on healthcare policies. This provided me with an idea of how I will make an influence on the healthcare system as a Clinical Nurse Leader and the similarities and differences between my future role as a CNL and other APNs.

I am a Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN) and being a Registered Nurse can be a stressful job, especially if you end up working overtime. If you decide to become a Mental Health Registered Nurse you are going to have to learn about the Education Requirements, Necessary Skills, The Salary, Job Duties and Job Benefits. When you are college you will need to take classes and learn until you have earned a Bachelor's degree or a Master’s degree. (Most hospitals prefer Master’s) According to allnursingschools.com “Committing to a master's degree program takes dedication, but it can have a huge impact on your nursing success in the form of new opportunities, from higher pay.” So getting a Master’s can benefit you in the future financially and

I decided to further my nursing career by going back to school to obtain a graduate degree in Family Nurse Practitioner. For me, it was a logical choice, as I love to help my patients to the most of my ability but at the same time I felt limited by my current scope of practice. A degree in FNP will enable and equip me with the knowledge and skills to care for a wide range of patient population. It will also place me in a position of leadership to bring about much needed changes and advocacy in patient care and also for nursing as a profession.

To the Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Program admissions staff, As a senior nursing student at the University of New Hampshire expected to graduate in May, I am writing to express my sincere interest in the Nurse Residency Program at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Through my research and communication with current residences, I have been attracted to the opportunities Vanderbilt can provide me with as I begin my career as a nurse. While the fascinating field of nursing is ever evolving, my ultimate goals as a lifelong nurse remain stable. I intend to not only work towards my highest potential, but to do so with compassion. My practices have taught me that the world of nursing is not solely based on skills or classroom knowledge but rather, nursing is all encompassing involving many innate qualities.

As I only have an Associate’s degree in Nursing, much of this information is unfamiliar to me. I have not been exposed to the contents of this course before and thus the reasons I would like to set a foundation of theories for professional nursing practice. Much of the information in this course is imperative in maintain an appropriate and professional role in nursing.

As my career advances I want to use my Master’s degree to help me propel myself above other. Furthermore, I am looking for the next step to improve my resume when promotions come around for the Dearborn Heights Fire Department. I believe this degree will help me stand out when I interview and show the necessary skills of motivation, desire, leadership and loyalty when entering a leadership role within the department. Secondly, we are looking to pilot a community paramedic program which I am very interested in leading and helping organize within our community. Furthermore, I am looking to expand my skills and knowledge as a skilled professional. This degree will allow me to grow as a nurse and apply the knowledge learned within this program in a real life scenario. I would like to work as an advanced practice nurse in an acute care setting where I can help the most amounts of people possible. I also want to give back as well and teach others as much as possible. In our department we have hired many new registered nurses who I have been trusted to orient. This has given me the knowledge and confidence needed to prepare myself for a leadership role within the department and provide the necessary feedback to others to allow them to continue to grow as
