Vocabulary Assignment: 13 Terms and Definitions 1. Simple Random Sampling: (McMillan, 2012, p. 98) A method of sampling were anyone in the population has the same chance of being selected. Example: When developing a study at a certain university on international students’ English proficiency and when picking students, putting all their names in a hat and picking a certain number of students out of the population. 2. Standardized test: (McMillan, 2012, p. 149) It is the same test that has the same procedure for scoring. These tests have the same questions, materials, and subjects, and are taken under the same conditions. Example: A good example is the SAT. Students all over the world take the SAT at the same time, it does not matter the time difference. It is also scored under the same procedure, there is an essay and the multiple choice answers with different sections. Everyone is timed, and corrected under the same procedure. 3. Questionnaire: (McMillan, 2012, p. 154) It is a tool to obtain information about different research problems. It contains questions or statements with an option of response that are used to gain perspectives, beliefs, values and other characters about a certain topic. Example: Students in college at the end of the semester are given a questionnaire to give their perspective about the class and the professor. This questionnaire contains statements with different options, were they have to either agree or not. The questionnaire helps the school
