Questionnaire is set of questions which could be written or multiple choice question given to the individuals or groups to find the factual information.

What is a standardized test? It is any form of test that requires all test takers to answer the same question, or selection of questions. Students shouldn’t have to take standardized tests because they can place a huge amount of stress on students and teachers, standardized tests are make students feel identical, standardized tests don’t provide any feedback on how to perform better.

Standardized test (p.149) - This is a test that is administrated and scored in a consistent/uniform basis.

According to Education reform, “a standardized test is any form of test that (1) requires all test takers to answer the same questions, or a selection of questions from common bank of questions, in the same way, and that (2) is scored in a “standard” or consistent manner, which makes it possible to compare the relative performance or individual students or groups of students.”

Forms of standardized testing have been around since the Sui dynasty time period, in which the Sui and Tang dynasties conducted imperial examinations in order to test those that hoped for government positions. Many other cultures have adopted it as well and refined it into almost an art form; for example, the United States. The United States began to conduct standardized testing around the time of the First World War; these tests measured the abilities of soldiers in order to give them jobs according to their results. Although the approaches to standardized tests are very different, the same general concept is the same. Since then there has been an increase of standardized tests: SAT, ACT, ASVAB, TAKS, STAAR, and EOC’s, just to name a few.

A questionnaire is research which involves a number of different questions to gather information from the people who are filling it in. Questionnaires are designed as a way to find out what people are thinking. An advantage of questionnaires is that it is very practical because it is quick to collect information from the people filling out the questionnaire. Another advantage of questionnaires is that the same questions is asked to everyone filling the questionnaire out so easy to sum up. The final advantage to questionnaires is that large information can be collected. There are also some disadvantages to questionnaires which is that there is no way of telling how much though someone who is filling the questionnaire out has put it. Another disadvantage is that the person filling it out may forget what has happened to fill it out so it won’t be reliable. The final disadvantage to questionnaires is that there is no way to tell how truthful a respondent is being.

A standardized test refers simply to any test that is being given in the same manner to all test takers. This same manner implies same questions, same timing, and same conditions of testing. The history of standardized testing dates for more than 14 centuries now. First standardized tests are claimed to be used for imperial examinations in China around the 7th century. However, It’s not until the 19th century that this testing methodology was first introduced to Europe and then to the rest of the world. In fact, even in the United States of America standardized tests were not included in the core of the educational system until the end of the First World War. Since then, a rising criticism and call against standardized testing has being rising and had its peak with the President Bush’s signature of the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001.The standardized testing debate has rapidly spread from the US to the rest of the world, turning it from an old Chinese military testing system to one of the most important controversial topics in the world of education.

A Standardized test is a form of test that all students across the nation take at one point. These tests are federally mandated, timed, and designed to measure students performance in basic subjects. All students receive the same questions on the test so it's supposed to be multiple choice questions that ‘fits all’ students. Standardized testing does not measure the knowledge of students, although many schools require students take them.

27. When psychologists send out questionnaires to many people to gather information: This is a survey and it describes the design of the experiment, because it is a type of way to gather data.

The questionnaires will be given out at my placement, church and class, so that the information will collect from a large portion of a group.

The strength of questionnaires is it can give an insight into respondent’s thoughts and opinions and also cost efficient as it is inexpensive.

Population- 96- a large group from which a sample can be picked for research purposes. For example, “Schools in Finland” would be the population form which researchers chose schools to compare to schools in the United States in the study of “physical activity in the classroom.”
