We have all heard everyone talking about violence, but what does violence really mean? Violence is the use of force to kill, injure or abuse others in a harmful way. How much violence is there? It is hard to estimate the amount of violence there is in the United States. Most of the violence is never reported. One thing I have notice is there are a huge number of cases in my community (Elkhart In) were there is gun violence from all age and gender groups. An Elkhart man had to take down a memorial that he had made to remember those killed in the past few years. There were 1700 cups around the entire fence spelling out those names. That wasn’t even counting the last 36 people that were killed this year.
There are many kinds of violence that we as people may be aware of and some we may not be aware of such as:

It may include threat to cause harm to a person. Psychological Abuse this may include putting someone down, name calling, isolation from family and friends or even threating to commit suicide if a person does not co- operate. Sexual Abuse is when you force yourself to have a sexual encounter with someone who doesn’t want to. This may include making them stop taking birth control, forced pregnancies. Financial Abuse this is when a person use money to control another person make them do things or say things like, if you love me you will give me half or all your paycheck. Spiritual Abuse this abuse I never really knew about until I started writing my paper this uses a religious or spiritual matter to have control over another person. Such as forcing another to follow a certain faith or give up a
Violence is the "use of physical force to harm someone" (qt. "Merriam-Webster"). There are different types of violence: homicide, gangs, abuse, and even destruction of property. Homicide is the act of killing another human being, this can happen due to gun violence, a threat, and is mostly common among African-Americans, and youths from other cultures.
Violence is one of the most exaggerated forms of physical aggression and it can exist for a series of reasons. It involves a person or a group of persons acting against another person or groups of persons with the purpose to achieve one or several diverse goals. In many cases violence results from individuals perceiving the acts of other people as hostile and thus wanting to act against these people before it is too late. Depending on the situation, more or less individuals might get involved in an act of violence, especially when they consider that it would be essential for them to do so.
When comes America, it is easy to see how crimes and violence how increased over the years due to crippling of the economy. It is with the income inequality that crime has a strong connection. An American economist named Gary Becker, “pronounces that an increase in income inequality can have a huge and robust effect of increasing crime rates”. A study of a 2002 world bank showed the United States, was ranked 3rd among the most income-unequal nations in the world with the worst in income growth. It is with the slow increase of America’s income inequality so has the crime rate (Patterson,
I like to bring your attention a matter which deserves immediate action. The idea of the United States no longer being the world’s greatest and most secure country in the world is a scenario in which many Americans are not prepared to witness. However, this idea from an analysis point of view may differ depending on the situation. The analysis of America’s greatest resources stems from the responsibility of ensuring these resources are protected. The alternative to the solution may
Savagery, attack, cruelty, brutishness, assault. All these concepts play a role in violence. According to the dictionary, violence is defined as the behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, but I believe that it goes much deeper than that. In my opinion, violence can be emotional and verbal as well as physical. It is a universal concept that happens all around the globe, from fighting in Syria to shoving in P.E. class, but can be surprisingly difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. Violence is controllable yet causes tens of thousands of people to experience pain, so why does it happen? How has it affected me? And what can I do about it?
Violence is a part of everyday society. Sometimes it is recognized and acted upon, while other times it can be seen as a normal characteristic. However, even though we are shaped by our culture and the lifestyles we were raised around, violence is a part of every single human.
Violence is defined by behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Did you know that this issue causes more than 1.6 million deaths worldwide each year? In fact, is one of the leading causes of death in all parts of the world for persons ages 15 to 44.
Chicago, home to many, has the highest rate of criminal activity. According to the Chicago Tribune, the number of people shot in Chicago so far this year is at least 2,300. Those against gun control would approach these violent situations by declaring society as a whole cannot prevent all acts of violence. Comparatively, with stricter laws society can decrease the amount of innocent bystanders being wounded or fatally injured by firearms. For instance, imagine being a parent and hearing the devastating news that your child has been shot by another individual. Well, on December 14th, the parents of elementary students at Sandy Hook faced just that. Anxious but patiently, parents stood with an ounce of hope that they
Year after year news about violence is being heard all throughout America. The motives behind these attacks vary; it can be from racial, gender, or political prejudice. The perpetrators can be just about anyone to a mentally unstable person to a perfectly healthy and sane person. These violent acts have caused a huge gap in the people residing in the United States. Violence has made people choose sides; thus bringing anger. Violence is being blamed on death, gore, and weapons that are shown in video games and movies. Excuses have also been made to justify the reasons why someone caused harm to others. In many cases there have been some who try to justify their acts by saying, “...” However, there is absolutely no justification for their actions
There's a lot of recognized violence such as domestic violence, emotional violence, and sexual violence. But these aren't the only types of violence that exist.
The nature of violence can be in form of sexual or psychological deprivation and neglect. People become violent due to some reasons. The individual might be frustrated, sad or just general hot tempered. An individual’s belief might also be one of the cause. A person who acts in an aggressive manner is believed to be a violent person which is an acceptable way to deal with his or her anger. The person might have grown into a family where violence is part of how the family interacts with each other.
The problem with violence is that the human mind and body is easily harmed. And all though physical violence is easily identified, other forms are not so easily recognized. Occasionally we are violent towards others without ever meaning to be. Discluding others from activities or ignoring individuals, may also be forms of violence towards the victim of these callous acts. One’s actions against another can be perceived in a multitude of ways. Some may take simple jests are hurtful remarks. For example if a stranger meets someone new and exchanges playful banter about ones appearance, the person could take offence to the comment and the playful banter could cause serious emotional damage; therefore, by not watching what one says, they have victimized this person.
Chris Hedges once said “Violence is a disease, a disease that corrupts all who use it regardless of the cause.” Violence, behavior involving physical force intended to injure, harm, or kill someone or something, as well as aggression, hostile or violent behavior or attitudes toward another, is spreading throughout the globe like a disease, corrupting our modern society. The drastic increase in violent and aggressive behavior in modern society can be attributed directly to the prevalence of drug and alcohol abuse, easy availability of deadly weapons and the limitless exposure to mass media that celebrates these behaviors.
What is violence? Violence is the act of abusing or exploiting a being mentally, physically, or spiritually. Throughout the world, violence can be found and is often reflected into literature. From adult novels to popular children’s books such as “The Hunger Games”, violence can be identified through starvation, oppression, and death. However, violence can also accentuate the historical significance of war if used correctly. During war, many authors and poets are surrounded by an environment of anxiety, panic, and disarray, with no reassurance of their survival on a planet incapable of peace. Now, violence is shown all over the internet and on media in order to manipulate human emotions and raise attention to a cause. How has violence been depicted through the problems of war, fights for freedom, and struggles of immigration?
As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault, bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind. However, what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence described, because as we have learned in class so far, “Violence is Relative.” So what really is violence? There is not an easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that violence can not only be physical but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence to be a form of expressed aggression either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal showcased by an individual. In the paper we will discuss how violence can be viewed as
