With the self-assessment in this week’s reading I had to really become brutally honest with myself. In order to know where you are in life, it is helpful to self-assess yourself (Bethel University, 2014). At first, I found myself quickly answering them and when I finished I went back through to make sure that I did not miss anything. While going back through them I found that I was not being completely honest with myself. I had to redo some questions but I was happy with the results. This assessment made me open my eyes to little things that I have not noticed before, which was very helpful.
I of course had weaknesses as do we all. However, even with the weaknesses that I do have some stand out more than others. Writing, time

With all of the information that we may use for what research we may be doing at the time, it is important to give credit to whom the credit is due to. Claiming someone else’s work as your own is a serious offense of plagiarism. Plagiarism is an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author (Dictionary.com, 2016).
Some of the challenges I face with APA style is making sure that I have all the accurate resources and that I cite them correctly. With all of the different ways to get information; online, textbook, eBooks, articles etc. making sure that the references are on point can be a bit intimidating. However, with that being said the advantages of APA are great as well. A huge advantage is in the EBSCO. When you research something and you find what you need, there is an automatic reference that is already formatted waiting to be use. Personally, for me, it cannot get any better than that.

One important aspect I gained by taking the APA quiz is that there is no time frame for plagiarism. Another aspect is that Walden University professors can give you an “F” on a paper that shows plagiarism (Walden University, n.d.). I included this because I thought that should you have plagiarized then the first course of action was to be put on academic probation. I am glad to now know that this is not the case, although I will continue to view this as such to avoid plagiarism in any of my papers.
Is Apa a good man? I wonder this to myself a lot during this book. Some might argue a definite no and go on to say he is a terrible role model and a terrible person. While some might argue there are good qualities and that he goes through so much for his family and perhaps he just shows his love and dedication for his family in a harsh way.
A research critique is a critical evaluation or appraisal of a research report. It is a systematic, unprejudiced, careful assessment of all aspects of a study to judge the merits, limitations, meaning and significance based on previous research experience and knowledge of the topic and the conclusion is relevant and applicable to the evidence-based practice (Grove, Gray & Barns, 2015). The reason for writing this critique was to assess my analytical skills in critiquing research articles and honing my skills in APA format. The first study by Peltzer, Domain, and Teel, (2014) was to explore the lived experiences, including spiritual and self-care practices of young women of African-American descent infected with HIV. The second study by Swinney
Some of my weaknesses are in reading and typing. These two areas surprised me quite a bit. I love to read, I read in every chance I get. The other are is way typing, this also surprised my, typing is something that I practice every day. I plan to do more timed reading so I can raise my score. For the typing I plan to write more papers on the computer, so I can gradually get faster at typing. I also learned that people tend to read faster when the
Being evaluated can be a scary procedure. Needlessly to say it can be even scarier to self-evaluate oneself. However, depending on the outlook of the self-evaluator, the evaluation of one’s own self can be enlightening, educational and a chance to grow. However, on the other hand, self-assessment of one’s own self can be a daunting process that leads to denial that there is a need for improvement.
Not everybody knows APA format or other different formats, because through high school, students use the same one and thus do not learn many, if any other ways to format. I was lucky enough to have at least heard of APA format during my senior year English class my teacher went over briefly one time. Many students only know MLA format which can hurt them in college especially if they are a science or math major, So if a student never took a writing course where
All the four students gave me feedback which all had a different perspective regarding my paper and that was very important as it allowed me to see my paper very deep. I used the feedback I got from my peer and changed my first draft, including the format of my paper to APA. The feedback also indirectly helped me to learn more about APA format.
During my high school career, the structure of writing assignments was not extensively crucial instead the content of the essay was to a greater extent more significant to my teachers. Initially, the thought of citations seemed fairly easy but now that either MLA or APA styles are required for almost every writing assignment in college the process seems complex. During English 1313, I was introduced to APA but at a very general level. However, I realized this semester that APA style is extremely detailed. Nevertheless, both citation styles share the requirement of a hanging indent, double space and a page created specifically for the references (APA) or works cited (MLA). I believe the process flows smoother when you know the citation and the
My weak area was the self-regulation portion; most of my responses to how often I handled each situation were “usually.” I need to improve on controlling my feelings in certain situations, trying to be more aware of tasks and their proposed deadlines, managing my time wisely, and executing new ideas that I myself have formulated. Other weaknesses were found in most of the areas where my strengths were. Most of them involved taking risks, which my personality often deters me from engaging in.
One of my weaknesses is speaking. I’m not a very communicative person. I am shy, always have been. Until I get to know someone, I don’t really say much but maybe a few words. Most of the time, I’ll just listen and let the other person do all the talking, or nod my head. Another weakness is positive visualization and optimization. I often see the worst in things. I either worry that something will go wrong or nothing will work out. I tend to do this often when I get over stressed when something doesn’t work out the first time, or something fails. My self-management and emotional control is also one of my weakness. I have PTSD and depression. I had a rough childhood and teenage life because of my father who abused my mother in front of my sister and I, who also was never there for us and mistreated us after our mom filed for divorce when I was 15. I also just got out of an abusive marriage just a little over 5 years ago, after the first and last time he made my first two children
So, as stated, the key reason for creating APA style was to create uniformity and this is one reason why it is so important to Bethel University (Bethel, 2014). That is one of the advantages. By implementing APA formatting, it gives facilitators the ability to easily grade papers because they do not have to search through and figure out which style each student is using in order to properly grade their paper (Bethel, 2014). Using APA style also allows teachers to make sure that students are giving the proper credit to authors that they are borrowing information from (Bethel, 2014). That is the advantage to students also, by knowing proper APA formatting, you can ensure that you are not plagiarizing (Bethel,
I think your way of ahead of game in our field if APA format comes naturally to you as writer you have already faced a giant in our field of writing. I think personally this one of my biggest issues ensuring my paper is formatted correctly using APA due to me having many years of practice using MLA format. I also believe I relate better to MLA format because it isn’t has strict and your able your owns works and personal experiences which is often how I get my point across to
American Psychological Association (APA) writing style exists for a reason and this reason is because writers' must give “credibility where credibility is due”(Walden Writing Center, 2015) . During my BSW program I learned this and also, the importance of integrity in college level writing. In my opinion, two aspects of APA that I think will not challenge me are direct quotations and listing references. I have to admit I prefer to quote intellecutual matter directly rather than, use paraphazing. I believe this is approriate to do if the quote you utilize is short and all of your agrguments regarding, the content of the quote, are your own ideas. Another thing that will come easily to me is listing my references. This comes easily to me because during my undergraduate education, I excelled in this area. The reason for this is because everytime I wrote a reference page I always refered to my courses APA manual.
This week’s assignment of paraphrasing over 230 words of wisdom has proven to be a challenge but also proved to be a great benefit towards my rusty skills of writing. It was a challenge in that I had to figure out how to paraphrase with less than 100 words. There was so much that I could expound on but I had to stay focused on the task at hand. However, after summarizing the passage into 100 words, I realized just how much thought and time it takes to truly grasp and honor someone else’s work within my own words.
I think that one of my biggest weakness in any walk of life would be that I 'm not all that adapt at writing assignments. I tend to always struggle at finding things to write about, I wish I could learn to be better maybe if would become a better listener it would help, that too is a weakness of mine its not as weak as my writing ability. I would really like to get all of my weak areas better because i feel that oneself if they can improve in weak areas can be a better well rounded individual and improvements in weak areas can also make ones self confidence better and if you have a higher understanding of weak areas and make the necessary improvements the world would be a better place for all who inhabit it. I feel that one small change in each person can change the world for the better and in the event that would occur we would be a happier more advanced world and it all starts with one person making a small step i would be ecstatic to see what would happen if that would come because at the end of the day we all have weak areas in our life that need improvement and it doesn 't mean we all have to be the same it just means that we all improve in a small aspect of life. Also i think that the first step in improving is not only realizing that you have weak areas but it also comes from learning from our mistakes and building and growing on them first but of course you first have to admit and realize you 're weak suits.
