There will be numerous policies and procedures within a setting and Staff need to be aware of them. There will be a number of other policies written to safeguard the children, young people, staff, and visitors from danger and to ensure safe practice throughout the setting. The purpose of this policy is to maintain an environment where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk, and are listened to. Also children know that there are adults in the day care centre who they can approach if they have any issues for example if a child is suffering from neglect at home the staff at the day care centre and other multi agencies will work together to improve the child’s situation, so that he will stop suffering from neglect at home.

When working in a health and social environment, it is important that the surrounding nature is safe and free of any potential harm. A hazard is something that can possibly cause you this danger. Hazards range from something being misplaced to a broken object. When identifying a hazard, risk assessments would take place to find out the best and quickest solution to prevent any danger. The definition of a risk is the probability or threat of damage, injury, liability, loss, or any other negative occurrence that is caused by external or internal vulnerabilities, and that may be avoided through preemptive action.
In this assignment I will be covering the assignment criteria for Unit 5 which is the principles underpinning the role of the practitioner working with children.

The policies and procedures cover a wide range of thing in the nursey we have to follow the policies of walking children up and down the stairs guiding 4 children holding the front child and back child’s hands to support the children in the middle. Also the policy for being out in the garden there should be a member of staff on the hill helping children up and down making sure they use it one way, another near the sand and mud to stop young children may eat it, also someone else on the road to make sure they are using the bikes properly and safely.

Health and safety policies and procedures help to provide a safe setting for children, parents, staff and volunteers. It is important that an environment where children are going to be is a safe and friendly environment, and consists of everything that a child needs to be able grow and develop to the best of their ability. This includes challenging exercises and things that are able learn at their own pace. Whichever age group you a person is working with, it is important to ensure that the planning is done according to each child’s individual needs to ensure that that the development of each child is met. It is important to make sure that the room the children are playing in is safe and set up to the appropriate age range. As the children start to get more energetic its important to make sure that we keep the room safe but challenging by placing floor activities which should slow them down. By giving the children challenges in the room should help them outside nursery because not everything everywhere
Safety and Suitability of premises: It is a requirement that there are suitably qualified people on site and that the ratio of staff is appropriate for safety of all children. It is also important to have safeguarding policies updated at all times, staff are encouraged to read all policies and procedures and adhere to them. Lastly, making sure that the locations, environment and equipment are suitable for the children including outdoor and indoor spaces, furniture, equipment and toys, according to age/ stage.
