As mentioned, the number 185463 contains a fractal which adds to the idea of the beauty in numbers. Fractals in nature include seashells, snowflakes, and lightning; all very beautiful sights, and seeing that there is a fractal in this number it promotes the idea of how beautiful numbers can be too. When this number first came to my attention my first impression was that it was an amount of something. This is very reasonable because numbers determine every subject on this earth, the importance achieved from these numbers is through their contribution to society. Six is the number printed on the back of my high school soccer jersey. Six is the number of people who live in my home. And six hours is the time difference that separates my dad and me. My whole life has been divided between two continents. From birth to age fourteen I lived in Milan raised in a traditional Italian home. Freshman year my life was split apart when my brother, mother and me moved to New Jersey and left my father and our childhood home in Italy. I moved to America freshman year to be able to go to college and to make a life for myself that wasn’t possible in Italy.

Although Mary Cornish's poem, "Numbers," appears to show the wonders of what numbers can do, the poem also shows a more hidden meaning behind the façade. Mary Cornish, through this poem, is asking the audience what it means to live a life and what makes a life worth living. In the first stanza, Cornish refers to numbers as people with will and choice by stating "they are willing to count anything or anyone," Cornish uses numbers as a way to mask that she is, indirectly, referring to people and how they have the ability to choose their own lives. Another section which alludes to free will is the fifth stanza where Cornish mentions Chinese takeout and every folded cookie holding its own fortune. This stanza points to the idea that within each cookie, or person, lies their own fortune to follow. Within the final stanza, the poem mentions three boys far from their mothers' calls, being a metaphor for people avoiding the call of conformity to avoid a leading a dull life. Also, in the final stanza, the line "two Italians off to the sea," appears which represent people going off into the unknown in search of a meaning to their lives, further tying the idea of free will to the poem. The final line in the poem is about a sock failing to appear despite search. What Cornish wanted to show with this line was that at times in life, a meaning cannot be found despite various efforts to find one, where the sock is the meaning of life.

The arrival of these immigrants made British official anxious because no formal arrangements had been made for them and because they were aware of the difficulties that they would face in British post-WWII society. West Indian immigrants had already come to Britain searching for work during WWII, but this arrival of immigrants would signify a drastic change in Britain in regard to attitudes towards Caribbean immigrants.

The second clue, “All corner numbers are even”, I assumed the problem meant the letters A, C, D, and F had to be even numbers of the 1-digit whole numbers; meaning the four letters would either be 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. So obviously, B and E could not be even numbers, so they were assigned the odd 1-digit whole numbers, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. The third clue, “The product of B and E is 15” looking at the 1-digit odd whole numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9), only 2 numbers could multiply to 15. (5 and 3). So B and E could only be 3 or 5. The fourth clue “Half the sum of C and F is 3”, I know that C and F are both corner numbers which means they are even numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, or 8).
The second mental calculation 36 + 5 can be carried out using the bridging through 10 method. the key to this is knowing how much more are needed to make 10 or a whole number (secure knowledge of number bonds to10). So, the next friendliest number for 36 is 40. In order to reach to 40 from 36, we need to add 4 more to 36. But, first we need to split the number 5 into 4 and 1 for example, 36 + 5 → 36 + 4 + 1. With secure knowledge of number bonds to 10, the 36 and 4 can be added together, which give a total number of 40. Eventually, the remaining number 1 can be added to 40 to give a sum of 41.
Numbers and counting systems are used daily by everyone. Numerous civilizations throughout history like Egypt, Babylonian, Maya and Africa developed a unique number system. They were commonly used to communicate numbers in an everyday life. Since then counting has changed. A few of the earlier systems had principles that survived and helped in some way, shape or form to create our current Hindu Arabic numbering system. It has become widespread.
