In this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting two types of movies. I will be examining their different elements, of similarities and differences. One piece of film that i will be studying is Alice Through The Looking Glass directed by James Bobin. I will also be looking over the film Finding Dory directed by Andrew Stanton. This is also directed by Angus Maclane. These movies both take you through a whirlwind of In the story Alice Through The Looking Glass is about these two queens, the Red Queen and the White Queen. The White Queen lied to her mother about eating the last tarts. So, for that reason, the Red Queen got punished for it, and grew very envious over her sister lying to her mother. The Red Queen has a very big ax to grind
In The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor the story of Alice in Wonderland is told from the opposite viewpoint. In this story Alyss Heart is the princess of Wonderland, and not a little girl from London. Alyss is forced to leave her homeland when both of her parents are killed by her evil Aunt Redd. When Alyss finds herself alone in England and must find her way back to Wonderland to defeat her evil Aunt. By switching storylines, Beddor shows significant themes that are developed throughout the story. For example, the theme violence or vengeance is show at times such as Redd and Genevieve, Dodge , and when Alyss faces her evil Aunt Redd.
The author, Daniel C. Weaver depicts the story “Beyond the Glass” in a skillful way to engage the audience. Weaver does a good job of showing the struggle of the pathologist to make the audience ponder upon the identification of the disease. Although the story, “Beyond the Glass” contains a great deal of medical terms, however, Weaver maintains the story appropriate for a general audience by using descriptive details and suspense.
A caterpillar that smokes from pipes and eats tarty-tarts is only the beginning of Frank Beddor’s first book in his trilogy The Looking Glass Wars. Many of us are familiar with the infamous fairy tale of Alice who stumbles upon a hole that leads her to Wonderland and meets strange characters like the Cheshire Cat and others. Now there are many differences in Beddor’s tale; not only is the Cat an assassin with nine lives but Alice-the character we grew up knowing-has a different name, Alyss Heart. She is a young girl whose kingdom of Wonderland is taken over by her blood thirsty and cruel Aunt Redd, who is truly the incarnation of evil. This book is one with many
Children today have access to many forms of literature, some of which are books made into movies. As the children become older, comments such as “the book was way better” or “the movie didn’t even come close to matching the book” or “the movie and book are the exact same, so save time and just watch the movie” are heard once children begin to make connections between the book and the film. It is important to me, as a future teacher, to be able to address such comments from my students and, in turn, help them understand why and how movies can either help or hinder the book’s original value and message. To help me prepare, I will compare a children’s film to the literary work that came from it.
Written in 1989, this piece, like her others, is written in the Post Modernism period. It is a self proclaimed process analysis piece with narrative components. In her work, Dillard aimed to tell the whys, hows, and wheres of her writing. By sharing details about her personal experience, Dillard draws the reader in with her quick wit and creativity. Each essay deals with a different topic or aspect of writing, but all are connected by frequent personal anecdotes and similar styles. This essay deals with the movies versus novels and the power each contains if you are able to see them. She argues that movies are more powerful than novels because they appeal more violently to your senses, but, for one who enjoys reading, a novel can be just as
From reading Grealy’s essay, we learn how to tell a story, and how to give full details in our essay to make it more understandable. From reading the novel No Country for Old Men, we get to know that different authors have different writing styles. Every author conveys their emotions in different ways. Like Cormac McCarthy, he frequently neglects to insert apostrophes where they should be, such as “dont”. Its film adaptation supplements some details to let the whole story more coherent. We can learn a lot in crossing varying textual forms, because each kind of textual form has its advantage. Essay is short and only focuses on one special thing. Novel is longer in length and storyline, and has more plots. Film focuses more on the visual presenting,
In The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor,The story from Alice and Wonderland is revisited, making changes such as Alice being the princess of wonderland, and the Mad Hatter is a royal guard for Wonderlands “Millinary”. Alice, or Alyss, has to escape Wonderland because her evil Aunt Redd has taken over the kingdom over and needs to kill her. She end up escaping to England, where she grows up denying this ever happened. However, she eventually returns to Wonderland and reclaims her rightful spot as the queen. In this book, the author added some themes to the story line.
In The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor, the original tale of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is flipped from total nonsense to a new telling with Alyss as the princess of Wonderland. In Beddor’s version, Alyss is taken away from Wonderland for her protection by the orders of her mother Queen Genevieve as Alyss’s evil aunt, Redd attacks the palace to claim the throne. As Alyss is being transported out of Wonderland along with the leader of the millinery, Hatter Madigan, they are separated with Alyss being in London and Hatter in Paris. Hatter must cross oceans and climb mountains to find the lost princess and return her to Wonderland to defeat her evil aunt Redd and take back the throne of Wonderland that was rightfully her’s. Thanks to
In The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor, the story of Alice in Wonderland is told in a whole new perspective. Beddor tells the tale from the perspective of Alyss, who in this novel is Princess of Wonderland. Her Aunt Redd attacks the queendom and her mother, wanting to be queen. Alyss is forced to escape Wonderland and finds herself trapped in England, but later returns to the queendom to rightfully regain her throne. In Beddor’s new tale, new themes are shown such as not giving up, even when times get rough which is shown in Alyss, Hatter, and Dodge.
To begin with this essay, I will be focusing on two pieces of media. I had recently read a book named "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne and watched a movie called "Easy A". People say that Easy A is a good portrayal of The Scarlet Letter. Don 't get me wrong, the movie shares some of the same themes and the movie is influenced by the book, but in reality, Easy A is not a good portrayal of The Scarlet Letter.
The questions i'm going to talk about in this essay How/why should we choose a film with lots of subtext eg underlying messages in the film, we are going to buy/rent as a customer orand as filmmakers to help find out what type of film we are making, as an author of film or/and collective film aurtership eg. writer director/film crew/production team are on the same page with there messages eg text and underline meaning/messages eg subtext, they are trying to tell or get across to audiences .What is genre in relation to film?
The title the looking glass wars means that there is war in a world we no nothing about and their main source of transportation are these things called looking glasses. “She’s in the crystal continuum!” redd shrieked. “smash the looking glass every last one of”. Because of this, the following quote relates to the meaning because the main antagonist tried to kill them by destroying the looking glasses, destroying the continuum keeping anyone from getting in and anyone trying to get out of it. Frank beddor writes “Theoretically, IT was possible for inexperienced continuum travelers to discover the rebel’s emergency portal; they could have inadvertently reflected out of it.” Furthermore the alyssains used these secret portals to get to and from the camps without revealing the location.
On a Friday night, Mary asked, " Girls, what movie should we watch? The Blind Side or Soul Surfer?" Replied Sarah, " Both are similar!" Daina disagreed, "No, they're two different films." The Blind Side and Soul Surfer are both Hollywood movies that are based on actual events that had happened to Michael Oher and Bethany Hamilton during their teenage years. Moreover, the two movies discuss the obstacles that the main characters had to go through and how they overcame these obstacles, especially that they were both different from the society they were around. These two films are my favorite movies and though they may seem similar, they're both definitely different from the other.
Games have always been around in society, whether they are something which are more recent like video games and basketball or something from ancient times like the games of Senet or chess. They have been vital ways to pass time, and have competitions. Not all games are easy to play or easy to win. Most games require a level or practice to get better in it, and some require intelligence and strategy. The game of chess is one that requires strategy and intelligence, and as a result it’s a difficult game to do well in. The prominent game that is showcased in Through the Looking Glass is chess, it’s not the only game shown though. The whole entire Looking-Glass world is set up like a chessboard and contains characters that represent chess pieces
For this editing essay, I choose two very different genre movies and I have noticed a couple of differences between them. As they are of different genre, they will have to have different editing styles to create the specific emotion that is necessary for the story and the idea behind the movies. The 2 Films I choose are: SAW1 (horror film) and Karate kid (coming of age drama comedy).
