Nurses today have very fast paced and busy working conditions. Looking towards the future, I know it is important to know and understand what is fully expected of me. LPN’s assist in assessments, and patient care planning to help set up goals to reach desired medical outcomes with the most efficiency and painless way possible. The patient is always the main concern in any goal and outcome with patient care planning. LPN’s carry out the orders of the physician, by administering medications and treatments to the patients assigned to them. LPN’s are often the voice of the doctor when it comes to patients care. LPN’s want to make sure to safe and effective care is rendered to all their patients. LPN’s often participate in readjusting a patient plan of care to benefit the patient’s outcome and their safety. Some of these tasks may include items such as vital signs, glucose checks, back massages, bathing and ADL’s, activities and feeding of patients. The Indiana State Board of Nursing is a professional licensing agency that is accountable for the regulation of nursing practice. The board looks over all nursing practices in Indiana to make sure they are safe and effective. The board has different administrative positions, set by the Indiana General Assembly, such as the governor of state, a state agency, state official and organization. ISBN has the power to issue or suspend nursing license in Indiana. Some typical duties of the ISBN are to develop practice standards, enforce nurse practice acts, accredit/approve nursing schools, and develop polices, administrative rules and regulations.
Registered nurses work alongside physicians providing patient care in a variety of ways. A few examples of what nurses are responsible for include: administering medications, tracking patient’s vital signs, helping to diagnose and properly treat patient aliments and educating the patient and their family on their condition and the course of treatment. Depending on what area of medicine a nurse works in will determine more generalized and specific duties and responsibilities. There are many different areas a nurse may work in. The Virginia Board of Nursing has one main purpose: to keep the general public safe. After attending the Arizona State Board of Nursing meeting through live stream on September 18, 2015 at approximately eleven in the morning, I had the opportunity to witness how the board enforces all the rights and regulations of the Nurse Practice Act and upholds the requirements set for each standard. The board consists of the board president Randy Quinn, RN, MSN, CRNA, the boards vice president Carolyn Jo Mccormies, RN, MS, FNP-BC, Kathryn Busby, J.D., Public Member, Lori A. Gutierrez, BS,RN-C,DON-CLTC,CBN, Terri Berrigan, LPN, C-AL who is the board secretary, Patricia Johnson, LPN, M. Shawn Harrell, RN, MS, Charleen Snider, BSN,RN , Dr. Kimberly A. Post, DNP,MBA/HCM,RN,NEA-BC, and Leslie Dalton, MSN, RN. Nine out of the ten board member were in attendance and conducting rulings in this particular meetings.
