The Gentle Art of Web Pages For the last millennium, adventurous souls have been accessing new and unfamiliar frontiers in search of adventure and a taste of the exotic. The last decade ushered in with it an appeal to the more intrepid members of this small group of people: The Internet. Access to this particular medium has hit an all-time high in the 1990's, and every tekkie has his own celebration of self occupying space on it. However, not all of the sites on the Internet are shameless celebrations of self. Some of these pages can be found to have their roots in the archaic designs of the past; some are the logical progression for a technological innovation such as the internet. One of these progressions, cyberpunk, the 90's …show more content…
This information, which could have been spread out and overburdened with text, is presented in a small 507x263 clickable map. This type of interface allows the user to find and access his desired topic with out having to search a lengthy page to find it. The reader need only click on one of the many images, and he will be transported to a different location. The only downside to this type of graphical platform is the amount of time that it takes to load the image. Skeptics will contend that loading text (without a graphic) will take less time; however, this detracts from the overall aesthetic quality of the site, and removes from consideration the whole notion of graphical versions and the importance that they play in a creative web page. The pictures used by Sci-Fi Channel: The Dominion, while visually unappealing to some, will certainly enchant the more jaded members of society. The eerie, almost ethereal, graphic is genius when placed in context with the theme of science-fiction: that which is unworldly and alien. Besides being a tantalizing object of art, it serves as an impressive container for links on the page. There are two drawbacks, however: since this page is most impressive when viewed with Netscapereg., and some webcrawlers, such as those using the Internet Explorer or Mosaic, may not be able to load any kind of picture, ruining the practicality of such a method. Some others, such as a student of the University of
In her comic-style article you can see there is a lot of visuals as you go through the reading. The visuals throughout the article helps the readers get her ideas more clearly than a regular article with no images. For example, on the first page of the article she talks about homophily and even though she gives the definition before the word, the picture of her in a flock of birds can help the reader understand and visually see that homophily means the groups we associate ourselves that have similar views to us. Not only do the visuals help the reader understand her argument but it also makes the reader look more
The Internet provides learners and trainers with the ability to access large amounts of information quickly and easily. Turning this information into a valuable learning resource requires organisation, planning, and careful selection of material. Trainers/Tutors should select websites that are appropriate to the needs of their learners and that support the objectives of the curriculum. Learners should be encouraged to develop a variety of analytical, searching and critical thinking skills and strategies to become confident and competent users of the Internet. Selected websites will need to be revisited regularly, however, to ensure that the content and/or the URL have not changed.
In his essay “The Net Is a Waste of Time,” novelist William Gibson analyzes the hidden potentials of the Internet in both its vastness and affect on society. He writes this piece at the dawn of the Internet, and during this undeveloped phase, he discusses its multitude of facts as is and will be. As hinted in the title of his essay, Gibson takes the stance that the Internet at its early stages is a waste of time -- an impressively large and complex waste of time -- but a waste of time nonetheless. He is ultimately concerned with how we are choosing to procrastinate through the Internet, and that our growing attachment and dependence on the Internet reveals a “fatal naïveté” (697) about us. Gibson also brings up the true enormity of the Web even at its premature standing, detailing how “the content of the Web aspires the absolute variety. One might find anything there. It is like rummaging in the forefront of the collective global mind” (697). Despite his concerns on what the Web might become, Gibson realizes that at the time of his writing, the Web was at a stage much like the larval stage of a butterfly’s life -- seems unassuming, but as he himself puts it, “The Web is new, and our response to it has not yet hardened” (697), and that there are “big changes afoot” (696).
* Technical solutions of webspective is not up to the mark and many of the potential customers perceive webspective to be crippled with problems such as inefficient traffic handling, brand name inconsistency and network problems.
“People only see what they are prepared to see” is a famous quote by Ralph Waldo. This quote emphasises the fact that the purpose of a text can often be unnoticed and misinterpreted by the viewer. Many people only have a limited world experience, and it’s the Distinctly Visual feature of a text which allows the viewer to gain a better understanding. Distinctly Visual texts use a combination of techniques to create and shape an audience’s point of view or interpretation, and visualising a text requires the responder to interpret all of the images presented.
In the end, while Lyon and Hafner give us an entertaining story regarding how the Internet was discovered, we are still left wondering about what effect the Internet is actually having. True, we see all of the hard work that occurred behind the scenes in the making of the Internet in this book, but now the question must be asked: where does the Internet take us? This is a very important question in the context of where technology takes our culture, and takes humanity in general. Indeed, every piece of technology has an effect on the people within the culture. There is, after all, certain political and social consequences to the progress in technology. In his essay "Do
Web Design is almost like an art. It is the design of information and services over the Internet. Luckily for businesses and customers the information and services provided are in done so through the World Wide Web (WWW). As I mentioned earlier Web design is a form of art, meaning that art and organization are needed to form customized Web pages to fit a particular business’ needs. Services for Web design can be accomplished in a variety of ways: professionally through a Web designer, created through hypertext mark-up language, JavaScript, Dreamweaver, and Microsoft FrontPage as well as other “What you see is what you get” {WYSIWYG) editors or languages.
My paper focuses on a security assessment of Quality Web Design (QWD), which is a very successful company that is well-known for its magnificent and appealing websites; they work
Graphic novels are a mixture of words and pictures. This allows for students to connect what they are reading with actual visuals. The visuals help supplement what they read and allow the reader’s comprehension of the material to be reinforced. Also, unlike traditional textbooks, graphic novels encourage the reader to look at the visuals instead of skipping over them. They encourage this behavior by incorporating the visuals into the text material (Boennan-Cornell, 2015). This is important because the
Imagine a book on a shelf that instead of filled with paper pages, it could be filled with paper-thin 3-D LED screens that change as the reader reads. This allows the author to show actions of characters in still, moving, or 3-demensional images to describe exactly what the creator intends to convey. This could also be synergized with the symbolism and written texts we have used for centuries to have a movie-like book that can play sounds and films for certain aspects, then flow into a comic strip, which is described by a paragraph below. This intertwining of media will allow the most difficult to express ideas to be conveyed to readers by allowing more freedom to the creator to escape the limitations of only one form. The difference between this and the previous forms of media is that this form allows for culmination of all other medias to be incorporated into a single object in reality; whereas, the other forms only culminate the previous methods of discourse that came before it. This e-book-like form of discourse will allow the most expression, and accuracy since to portray the idea of World War 2, an author can show a point-of-view perspective, with a birds-eye-view of what’s happening on a part of the page, while a comic resides below that conveys the soldiers’ emotions at the time and a hand-written diary
The data is then sent back through the system to the original user. The information that is on the data coming back could have came from a wide array of sources such as books, financial markets, embedded chips or even made up by someone trying to fool the user. The History? The Internet is first
When it comes to the topic of technology, most people will readily agree that it has been growing non-stop at a significant pace. About 16 years ago, technologies, such as computers were not a necessity in mainstream life. Since then, technology has progressed and people have become extremely reliable on. In the essay “What’s the Matter with Kids Today?” by Amy Goldwasser, she talks about the positive aspects of the Internet. According to Goldwasser, “Twenty-plus years ago, high school students didn’t have the Internet to store their trivia”(Goldwasser 238). By stating this, Goldwasser explains that over the years the Internet has become a necessity in the lives of the majority of students today. Although the Internet provides sufficient
Sometimes it seems like the computer game industry is dying, crushed to death by its own bulk. Every year more and more gaming companies get gobbled up into huge conglomerates like Electronic Arts, companies that mostly put out trash that is technically and visually impressive, but devoid of concept and content. However, there are some small gaming companies that buck the trend. While mostly just small groups of programmers and artists, some are huge unions of fans who, irritated with the dropping quality of computer games, have decided to use the power of the internet to get together and to produce games tailor-made to their personal preferences.
The internet is the easier way for people to communicate with each other. It has made the world smaller by bringing people together everywhere and any time. This invention has important tools for people to contact and it has changed their way of communication in today busy world. In fact people are becoming totally dependent on the internet as a way of communication in their daily life, business and work. The limitation of old communication tools has made the use of internet for communication is wider all over the world .
