The Ethics of Abortion The Ethics Of Abortion is a very controversial subject that has been continually argued over for the past few years and probably many more years to come. The main controversy is should abortion remain legalized? Before we get into the many sides of abortion we must first define abortion. Abortion is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mother’s womb. This can be done by almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley abortions and even to abortions by clinics set up especially for this purpose. There are two sides to this abortion topic, the PRO-LIFE, which is those who are against abortion altogether and the PRO- CHOICE or those who believe it is the woman’s right to …show more content…
This also will bring out the chauvinistic side of me but I also feel the woman is more responsible for providing birth control. If a pregnancy occurs because of rape and the woman was not allowed to abort it then I feel that numerous lives would be affected. The woman who has this child would feel the emotional and possibly the physical scars for the rest of her life. This would be carried on to the child and probably onto any future relationships and future children she might have. Every one is not the same, some women might be able to handle the situation with little difficulty and some might have great difficulty. I believe this is the main reason to be Pro- Choice. Now lets talk about the other reasons why abortion should remain legalized. I feel if a woman is pregnant for any reason and she does not want the child or to go full term, then abortion should be there as an option. If it is not an option then women would find a way to abort on their own, which would be very unsafe to her own welfare. The old coat hangar trick or throwing yourself down a flight of stairs should not be an option because there are no other alternatives available. Anyway, If the pregnancy is made to go full term because of these Pro- Lifers, then I feel many of these babies will be born into families that not only doesn’t want to care for them but can’t care for them. Maybe they
Abortion was not made to get rid of babies whenever you “felt” like it. It was made so the people that develop serious issues and cannot carry the baby to full term have a way out instead of dying with or without the baby. “One thing that is not hidden, mysterious, or debatable is that making abortion illegal will result in the deaths of women, as it has always done. Is our historical memory so short that none of us remember aunts, sisters, friends, or mothers who were killed or rendered sterile by septic abortion?” (194) It says in the bible that abortion is wrong, and I’m a strong believer. I’m also a strong believer in doing what’s right for everyone. The mother did not know she was going to have issues. The person that possibly got raped didn’t ask for it and they didn’t ask to have a baby. We should not make abortion restricted for these main two reasons.
Abortion is one of the most personal, widely discussed, and controversial topics in American culture today. In most cases, people on both sides of the argument take worthy and moral positions. Who can blame someone who wishes to prevent the termination of a teen pregnancy to save the life of an unborn child? On the other hand, who can blame anyone who advocates the soon-to-be mother's right to make such a personal, heartbreaking choice? No matter what she chooses to do, should anyone have the legal right to force her to bear an unwanted child? Most people in the US are pro-choice, and believe that abortion should be a legal, confidential decision that only a woman can make for herself. However, some are against the idea of
A lot of pro-abortion people say rape is a situation where the mother should be allowed to have an abortion, because that’s hard and she shouldn’t have to think of that everytime she looks at her baby. Well rape is no reason to have an abortion. Keissling said “I owe my life to pro-life activists” (Geyer, Allison, infohio). She owes her life because if abortion was legal when her mother was pregnant she would’ve probably be dead right now because her mother wouldn’t have wanted to deal with her, but since she didn’t now 26 years later they are together and happy with a good relationship (Geyer, Allison, infohio). Another way pro-abortion people justify having an abortion is by saying they’re a women and you can’t tell them what to do with their body and their life. Some women say that since the baby is inside of their body it’s apparently a part of their body now and they get to decide the outcome of the baby's life. But this is not true, the baby is a separate from the mother. The baby has its own heartbeat, limbs, and lungs. That is separate from the mother. Every human has ONE heartbeat, ONE set of lungs, ONE brain. The baby is Its own human, they have there own life. Rape and other situations is no reason to give up your
According to the authors of a medical dictionary called; the free dictionary, online version, “abortion is defined as the termination of pregnancy before the fetus is viable.” Viability for a fetus is usually greater than 500 grams, or prior to 20 weeks gestation as noted by those same authors. An abortion may be spontaneous, commonly referred to as a miscarriage, or induced which describes the deliberate interruption of a pregnancy. Those authors assert that it is the viability of the fetus that is the determinate criteria when deciding the legality and morality of induced abortion. Undoubtedly, there is no public consensus on the matter of abortions, not only in this country but worldwide. Declarations by those authors are that, there are those who believe that the fetus is a human being at the moment of conception and morally oppose on the grounds that destruction of a human body is tantamount to murder. On the other hand, others declare that a woman 's right to choose what happens to her body is of utmost significance. Before continuing on with the ethics of abortion I would like to briefly discuss the history of abortion in the United States.
The issue of abortion is a tough, important, and long-lived one because there are numerous factors to consider and many people with strong opinions with the proof to support them. There are religious claims, human rights that need to be protected, attempts to avoid psychological damages, and even funding issues that are equally important, with evidence to support either side. Our overall position on this issue is to keep abortion as a legal institution in America. But the graphic condition of abortion procedures mandates that partial birth abortions, except in the cases of rape, incest, danger the woman’s health, or fetal abnormality, are strictly prohibited. Seeing that “58% favor the
Each day throughout our world, medical professionals suction thousands of babies from their mothers’ wombs through a procedure called abortion. The law protects and provides consent to both the mother and the medical professionals for these procedures. However, the babies seemingly have no right to protection or life themselves because of the argument regarding when a fetus is determined be human and have life. Pro-life author, Sarah Terzo, in a LifeSiteNews.com article, relays the following testimony supporting this from a medical student upon witnessing his first abortion, “Rejected by their mothers and regarded as medical waste by their killers, society allows these babies to die silently, with no recognition or acknowledgment of their
At some point in every person’s life they will be faced with some sort of dilemma that tests their morals and values. They will encounter a situation that forces them to weigh the good and bad against beliefs they have held their entire life and make a decision that could affect their life forever. Those core beliefs are what influences the person’s decisions, their sense of right and wrong as well as their perceptions about every situation they face. This paper will evaluate an ethical dilemma about abortion in relation to the Christian worldview 's core beliefs and offer solutions and benefits based on those beliefs as well as how other worldviews may address the issue.
* Around three quarters of British people believe that you should be able to make your own decision about having an abortion
In today's society abortion is getting more notice then ever. After the president banned partial birth abortion controversy arose from all sides of the table and has been since Roe v. Wade. Many women today feel as if they should have the right to chose either to bring life into this world or not. These women feel as if abortion will give them a sense of relief. What many of these pro-choicers don't realize is that abortion causes more destruction then relief.
No one is pro abortion or a pro abort; no one actively wants a woman or all women to have an abortion. Although I do suppose we have those nutcases running around who do but keep in mind they are nutcases. Forcing a woman to have an abortion against her will is a cruel despicable act, however it is just as cruel if not more so to force a woman to carry a pregnancy to term as it is to force her to have an abortion. An undesired pregnancy is tough enough to deal with but then to amp it up and take couples or a single woman’s option away is just inhumane. That being said the only possible position a decent human could take is pro-choice. Therefore excluding the barbaric nutty exceptions we all believe the woman carrying the child should have the choice of what she wishes to do with said child. Whether you would like to influence her to think to your liking, you know in the end legally it is her “choice”. But is it really her choice?
On one hand, pro-life supporters are those individuals and groups that believe abortion is wrong and should be banned. Many of these people are against abortion because it is against their
Pro-choice proponents usually lean towards philosophical outlooks to what defines life and usually believe that the fetus is not alive. Their reasoning is often one of the following: A fetus can't survive on its own. It is fully dependent on its mother's body, unlike born human beings,
She was only twelve, only for a walk on the street right by her house when he got to her. The experience was terrifying and all she wanted to do was forget about it, forget about him on top of her, making her do things that should only be done with someone she loves. The rape is finally over and he lets her go after making her promise not to tell. A few weeks after the rape she still hadn’t told, but started feeling woozy and nauseous in the morning; she went and consulted in her mother. After waiting out what she believes was a stomach flue for another few weeks she saw that her belly started to grow. She finally told her mother what had happen and the little twelve year old girl was
(Statistics from https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8765248) Rape is never the victims fault so why should the women carry the child that was conceived against her will. Well, hypothetically let’s say that she delivers the child and a few years later she no longer wants the child because it brings back bad memories. Would she have the right to murder the child? No because he is a human and under Article 2: The Right to Life, no one can try to end your life, no matter the circumstances of your conception. This still applies to when the child is still inside their mother as they are a living being. Another argument that ‘Pro-Choice’ people make is that there isn’t enough land and resources for the growing population so abortion is in a way, population control. However, would you kill a born child because you thought there were too many for the planet? The answer is no, because taking a life is
