Introduction
Every day, society is wasting the Earth’s natural resources in an unsustainable way. By continuing to live in an unsustainable way, it has resulted in the depletion of resources on this planet. Our lifestyles have caused this to become a problem that needs to be fixed. Populations of developing countries are wasting our resources at rates never before seen, yet mankind rarely realizes how it is affecting the planet. If our lifestyles are not changed sooner rather than later, deeper consequences will occur that will alter our lives forever. The environment is suffering every time people waste a resource. It has resulted in an increase in global warming that has affected millions of people around the world and it will continue to do so. There is no definite solution to this problem, nevertheless as the people of this planet, we can at least do something regarding to it. By using resources in a sustainable way, it will contribute to the survival of society and the Earth.
More Babies Create Additional Problems Millions of babies are born around the globe daily. Although the birth of a child is one of the miracles of life, in today’s world it might be a problem. The increase in population has resulted in the higher usage and waste of natural resources globally. Ecologist Garret Hardin reiterates throughout his essay, “The Tragedy of the Commons”, how society must fix the population problem and change our life choices for the welfare of mankind.
“The only way we
More than six billion individuals live on planet Earth. As the populace develops, we are taking increasingly land to live and utilizing a greater amount of the world's characteristic assets. Numerous human exercises likewise create POLLUTION, which is harming the Earth's surroundings.
We ask ourselves how might human activities have affected global climate change? Well human activities contribute to climate by causing changes in earth's atmosphere in the amounts of greenhouse gases and cloudiness. Mostly it is burning fossil fuels. This releases carbon dioxide gas to the atmosphere. There are many ways that the humans can affect our environment. Deforestation, burning fossil fuels, and hydrocarbons are ways this can affect. In this paper i will explain how each one contributes to global warming. I will support my discussion with evidence and consequences of the effects of each activity. It will also have alternate energy and solutions included that are most sustainable in our area.
Another very crucial environmental issue, besides global warming, involves the finite nature of natural re, which are being depleted faster than their replenishment rates. The development model of the 20th century, which promoted the continuous consumption of products, has resulted in the reduction of agriculture land, food, water re as also fossil fuels. If humanity continues to consume fossil fuels at the same rate as today, oil re will run out by 2030, gas by 2040 and coal by 2200. By 2025, the number of people suffering due to water stress will rise to approximately 3.5 billion and almost half the world’s population is expected to experience high water stress by
Exploitive human actions damage the earth. Human’s daily habits cause rising temperatures from carbon dioxide emissions. The excessive use of coal, oil, and natural gas leads to more carbon dioxide emissions, which traps more heat causing the temperature to rise (Friedman 32). For example, in the last 100 years, scientists measured an increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide from 280ppm to 400ppm (124). Based on research conducted by NOAA, temperature and the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide have a strong correlation. Temperature rises as carbon dioxide rises. The growing population of the world leads to increased exponential resource consumption and growing levels of carbon
The Earth is currently facing detrimental environmental issues. These issues have been evident for decades; however, many people have continuously denied them to be problematic or even their existence entirely. While they have managed to get away with the rejection of these problems for many years, it is no longer deniable that the issue of environmental degradation is very real and in need of immediate action. That being said, although there have been a variety of modest attempts to increase environmental sustainability, they have demonstrated to be of minimal effect. Pollution, global warming, deforestation, and a plethora of other human impacts that cause this degradation rapidly continue to destroy the planet, and in order to obstruct them,
All of these factors have significant effects on the environment globally, and will lead to many issues not only environmentally but also in the way we live and how countries interact. Although some readers may object, saying that we can prevent these things if we start taking actions now. Many scientists who have studied the environment have stated that the results of our actions are irreversible, and we can only maintain the level of environmental disparity. With this knowledge in mind, I call everyone to take actions to limit the amount of greenhouse we emit and try to reduce waste by recycling. While most people have been told this countless times by a countless number people, now is the time to act. Because while we can’t reverse these actions we can prevent the world from becoming an even worse place than it will already become. Because in 100 years due to environmental issues we have created the arctic and the world will be a worse place than it is
What is the tragedy of the commons? It is said to be in the 1968 publication in Journal Science by ecologist and philosopher Garrett Hardin a depletion of the earth’s resources, including, but not limited to overpopulation. Should why should you care? Hardin explains in his article that people tend to see the world as place of infinite resources, and space when in fact he argues, it is not. Throughout the article there is undertone of urgency; ‘we have to!’ it blares, ‘It’s too late’ another voice squeaks, but in fact, he tells reader directly that is no solution to overpopulation.
50 years of innovation and urbanization, we were blinded by the city lights and smokes that we do not seem to see the importance of taking good care of our environment, especially the nonrenewable sources. The consumers’ needs quickly became wants, and for the producers, wants simply mean profit, and profit is money. Money is everything to people nowadays. We would resort to everything that could provide us even the littlest amount of money, no matter what the repercussions would be, thus, the destroying of the resources. We are slowly killing the planet but we cannot see it because we are too busy trying to get things we believe we need. It is said that the earth’s weight is still the same as it was first created. Come to think of it, we do give and take with the nature, we take its resources, invent something useful that we consume, but we give it back as waste and
But once it turns to night, look how the gradients of white, yellow and orange prevail above the shadow. That light, the proof that civilizations have destroyed the nature with less concern on their environment reflect the current crises of the environment. As a result of unsustainable development, the problems has expanded. In an attempt to contend with the environmental crises, the world must reconsider the use of resources, make it a political issues, and also convince and motivate people toward conservation. As a first step, the world is required to shift more toward renewable energy rather than oil and fossil fuel that is limited in amount and accelerate climate change. The key concept all the people could keep in mind is frugality, the wise use of resources, which can be achieved by three R’s: reduce, reuse and
Climate change is a global problem that is affecting Earth’s delicate ecosystem. Many problems are present in our world today, such as starvation, flooding, heat waves, droughts and disease. These issues are likely to worsen as climate change takes its toll. In the past, the cause of this severe climate change was unknown. Today, it is known that manmade climate change is occurring. Scientists have discovered that humans have had the greatest impact on the Earth’s ecosystem. Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, are causing the Earth to get hotter. Although humans are not the only cause of climate change, we contribute to this world wide problem because of the actions we take, which if affecting us now and will continue to affect us in the future.
As you may know there are over seven billion people in the world today, and each day that number goes up around 350,000 each day around the world but, why may I be presenting this fact you may ask? Well from research under an accredited website based in Copenhagen Denmark, called The World Counts that specializes in the depletion of these natural resources, “ A newborn infant will need: 360 kilos of lead, 340 kilos of zinc, 680 kilos of copper, 1,630 kilos of aluminum, 14,800 kilos of iron, and 560,000 kilos of stone, sand, gravel and cement.”(The World Counts Org.) So, as you could see the amount of resources the world must provide for one baby in its lifetime is quite staggering, and if you multiply that by the amount of babies born in one single day alone, now the issue of scarcity of resources gets to be a little worrying. So, to effectively combat resource scarcity, we must simultaneously combat overpopulation in the world, and to do this, we could provide governmental environmental awareness agencies with funding, and additionally provide third world countries, (our leaders of this overpopulation) with contraceptives, and additionally teach them how to use
We as a society have reached one of the most crucial time periods in the history of our world. Due to the way we have used the resources on this earth we have created a situation in which our climate is drastically changing. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil has caused gases like carbon dioxide to become trapped in the atmosphere causing a natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect has caused the earth’s average temperature to rise and has resulted in arctic glaciers melting. These glaciers had gases trapped inside them that are now being released into the atmosphere further raising the earth's temperature. Due to the way we are polluting our air we have caused global warming. This global warming has caused stronger natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires putting our society in more danger than ever before.
“The power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the earth to produce subsistence for man” (Malthus). Environmental problems are a huge problem in today’s world. Why are these problem’s happening and what are we facing? Like any other animal, the human population plays a big role in the environment’s sustainability. Due to the alarming increase in population every year, we our in the beginning of what many call the sixth extinction. Human population is the root to many environmental problems and as these problems continue to get worse, our species and planet are in danger of extinction. As things like pollution, deforestation, beef production, and resource depletion increases, the world is in danger of being destroyed due to overpopulation and climate change.
As the days go by the technology of the world advances too. We sit back as people present to us these new inventions to improve our environment. Do you ever think back the materials and supplies you use for your personal needs? Over consumption of natural resources is huge problem in our world. With the new technological advances there are alternative ways to meet these needs. As I sit in my environmental science class, we discuss what natural resources are being over consumed not for our needs anymore, but for our wants.
Over the past few decades, scientists have warned that natural resources have been exhausted. In fact, human beings are using more resources than the capacity of the Earth. That means the way we use natural resources to produce energies and make goods people use is not sustainable. The Sustainability Glossary defines “Sustainability is we take only from Nature at equal the rate or less than the rate Nature can restore itself or heal itself.” However, we would not. As a consequence, in natural habitats, the overuse resource is leading to deforestation, emissions and wastewater pollution, animal extinction and endangerment, soil erosion and degradation... In communities across the country, we can see abandoned places and
