There is too much teen suicide in the United States. Many teens who are depressed have mental issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc. Often, teens who have these issues feel as if they don’t belong. They don’t feel like talking about certain things going on in their life. Issues regarding sexuality, bullying, and abuse make children feel hopeless and unwanted. They feel alone. The suicide rate has gone up dramatically. There are approximately 100,000 suicides per year and 10,000 to 20,000 of them being from ages 14 to 24. I think it should be held by the Department of Health. The Department of Education could create a required class and teach it in the schools on mental health and options available. I think this will help teens who have illnesses/ suicidal thoughts and it will help to prevent kids thinking about it. The Department of Education could also hold one on one counseling sessions at school. I know that there are counselors at the school, but many kids feel that they don’t listen and can't trust them. Romeo and Juliet felt like they couldn’t trust anyone but themselves. These special counsellors should be available all through the school day. Romeo and Juliet didn’t feel understood. Everyone should feel understood. Romeo and Juliet is a powerful story on how serious suicide is. There are some people who overlook it and think it isn’t a big deal, but it is. Teen suicide needs to stop for good. No child deserves to feel like they don’t belong, and that no one cares about them. No child deserves to be abused in any way. What teens need to understand is that there is always going to be somebody out there who doesn’t like you but try not to let their words get to your heart. Be strong. Know that you are beautiful just the way you are and there is always somebody out there who will
According to the World Health Organization, “Suicide has surpassed homicide to become the second leading cause of death among ten to twenty-nine-year-olds; in 2012, suicide claimed the lives of more than five-thousand people within this age bracket” (Onieal 14). Five-thousand young people felt that the weight of the problems they were faced with was too much to handle, and suicide was the only solution. As a teen who struggled with clinical depression and anxiety, this is an issue that is very real to me. So many of these suicides could have been prevented if we were more aware of how many teens are struggling with depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses, and offered our support and strength to those who feel too weak to hold on any longer.
Many people think that a lot has been done to prevent youth suicide. 2,415 teenagers have been committing suicide per year in the last 5 years (Hunter Institute of Mental Health, 2014). Most of them have done that due to psychological issues. Furthermore, bullying is also one of the causes that we should be focused on. In addition, technological developments make it easier for teenager to get bullied through the Internet and social media. I think people should be concerned about youth suicide rather than physical health only because it could be a silent killer to this generation. I don’t think that people have done enough to prevent youth suicide.

A large amount of adolescent teens and children commit suicide over things that someone has said or done to them personally. It’s troubling to think that that would happen but it’s true. Modern society needs to take caution of what they do and say because it can lead to adolescent teens and children attempting and commiting suicide.
When a young person starts to feel overwhelmingly hopeless, useless, alone, and unwanted many turn to suicide. This can become very devastating to family, friends, and people who knew the victim. Teenage suicide occurs due to many different factors. In today’s society people uphold this certain expectation of how someone should look like. And for those who don't follow these standards or expectations one is seen as an outsider and worse they are seen as “ugly.” According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, suicide is the third leading cause of death for adolescents 15 to 19 years old and the number of adolescent deaths from suicide in the United States has increased dramatically during the past few decades. Some of the leading causes for suicides among adolescents is bullying, parents divorce, loneliness, and abuse. But doctors don't know the definitive cause or explanation for why kids decide to take their own lives. Having time alone is great and can help many people escape from everyone and everything around them but when young people spend a long time alone it can also be harmful. Kids who struggle with emotional problems are more likely to commit suicide, due to their mental
Over the years teen suicide has increased tremendously. According to Michael Jellinek, “the adolescent may feel they have no choice but to end their intense internal suffering or to solve a hopeless dilemma by ending it all”(Preventing Teen Suicide). According to the Center of Disease Prevention, “suicide is the third-leading cause of death for high school students after car accidents and homicides”(Bratsis). Teenage suicide is the number two cause of death for teens today. While the questions of why can never be answered for certain there are numerous risk factors that can go into the reasoning for a teen taking their own life. Factors include family problems, bullying, and sexual orientation, but other problems are just natural changes in the developmental process of teenagers.
