I chose to watch this TED Talk done by Sam Harris because the topic is one that was interesting to me. He is a neuroscientist and philosopher and the purpose of this speech was to bring awareness to people about the potential dangers we could face with artificial intelligence in the future. He talks about how as we keep progressing and creating better technology we will eventually create artificial intelligence that will surpass us, and likely destroy our society. He goes into a few different ways this could happen, and asks his audience to try to think more about the subject and how we can prevent our destruction. The content of this talk was very interesting as it was about the technological possibilities of our future, that sounded like something out of a science fiction film. Many people seem to be very interested in learning about these crazy technological advancements to be made in our future, but not too many people are worried about the negative effects of these advancements, so I think the subject he was covering is something that is good for us to learn about. He was also pretty …show more content…
It was pretty clear from the introduction where he was going in this talk, and he took us their in a clear and concise way. The main points were all laid out very clearly and he seemed to transition between them well. His conclusion was also pretty good, with a closing statement that made you think about what he wanted the audience to think about. For the delivery he seemed engaged with the audience, and had good posture and maintained eye contact with the audience at all times. He had the appropriate amount of energy, and there were no distractions in his mannerisms or the way he talked that made you lose sight of what he was talking about. His talked seemed perfectly executed to me, with no awkwardness to anything, and a perfect and precise delivery of the
He had a lot of slow pauses that were caused by him just stopping to think and because this was genuinely a delicate subject for him to discuss. In addition, his delivery was very smooth and came off beyond humble. He did not feel the need to scream, shout or be dramatic he kept his body language very quiet and let his words do all the work. All these different things gave the message to the audience that he was truly grateful to be getting the award but that there was a bigger matter at hands and someone with more courage than him that had pushed him to be the best version of himself.
He didn’t mention any steps toward having a positive self-image, nor did he mention the benefits. He mentions why we should have it, but not ways to get it. He made excellent eye contact with the audience, and he didn’t have much visual aids except for his bible. Overall I thought he did a wonderful job, he gives great supporting statement. The key strength of the speech, is the second body paragraph. the weakness of the speech is simply because the topic wasn’t as clear once one would like it to be. He moved from one point to next smoothly with transition words. After listening to the speech, I felt indifferent. He reminded us to remember that we are the child the highest king, and not to let the negative things this world must offer take root. Otherwise the negative might over shadow our true selves. For future speeches, he should elaborate on exactly what is it that he wants us to change, and a couple ways to go about making that change would be nice. By evaluating the speech instead of just listening to it like I normally do, give me a different point of view on the overall
You are requiring me write about this ted talk because there was alcohol in my room. Having alcohol in my room was a mistake that will not happen again and hopefully this video will help me improve as a person and see where I went wrong. Alcohol is a huge problems and college and maybe this ted talk will express those problems even more.
While I was listening to the audio recording of his speech, he sounded so confident when talking to them. He was a persuasive speaker and spoke to his audience with respect and honesty. He began his speech with a strong hook which I believe caught the attention of his listeners and myself. “I
It shows the thought process of someone who has ADHD very clearly which makes it effective but the audience can easily lose track as to what the topic of the moment is. He jumps around from topic to topic and back again which can be expected from someone who lives with ADHD. Once the audience is able to catch up on what is being discussed he makes very valid points on how this disorder should be handled to best benefit the child who is living with it. His personal stories in which he compares to his roommates stories show how drastically different a child’s life can be based on how a teacher/parent/principle/etc. handles the disability. Had he not shared that comparison I do not believe his speech would have made such an impact on the way people can view
He included a ton of information but lacked a visual aid. I believe by having a visual aid or multiple visual aids it could have kept the audience intrigued and kept their attention on what he was presenting. I found myself at multiple times during the speech getting distracted and forgetting what he had just presented. With a visual aid I believe that could have been avoided. I also noticed that he stayed in one spot for the whole speech and was reading from his notes almost the whole time. Similar to the visual aid I believe he could have been more effective in getting his main points across if he interacted with the audience more and showed more physical interest in the topic. I believe Martin Rees could have also organized his presentation better to also be more effective. What I mean by this is that at certain times during the presentation I found some of the information he was stating didn’t clearly reflect his thesis or main points, because of this it left the audience distracted and took away from what he was trying to get
Inaugural Address of John F. Kennedy When a president gives their inaugural speech, they have a message that they want to deliver, to the audience. During his speech, the audience that had attending the inaugural speech or who were just watching the inaugural speech live on the television often come, and have a reflection on what the president is talking about. This speech can motivate the citizen of this country to unite and come together, or to work together as well to make this country a better place.
Even he looked comfortable during his speech but shown emotion and motivate his feeling and mindset. He’s language style gives some types of inclusiveness to the audience, for example, he used “we” and “our”. He shown that the speaker and the people are not different, and that make them start to admire him. His emotion and attitude of his speech helped motivate and persuade the audience
He engages the audience by writing in second person, sharing personal stories, adding side notes and colorful graphs/pictures, plus by asking rhetorical questions. What had me hooked was his use of
His introduction definitely made me want to listen because he asked us if we had heard the good news. He then goes on to tell us that God has blessed him with a little baby boy. He wanted to explain how much God loves all of us and that he wanted his son to learn all about God. I thought that his introduction went well, because I instantly wondered what
I agree with you on your post that he did appear to be too happy. However, there are people with that type of personality who are just happy within themselves. I think he did well in presenting his speech and in a timely manner. Yes, people do seem to lose interest when people are too serious and too lengthy when making a presentation. I liked the fact that he was able to gain my attention on this interesting subject. This video has caught everyone’s attention and it was effective in its delivery. I think humor is a good way to deliver any
His attention getter was very relevant to the audience. The video was about the magazine company he works for (Vice Magazine) which is aimed toward young adults all over the world. The video was very upbeat with many vibrant colors that made it grab the attention of the audience member as well as myself. Which I also believe was Cooper`s main object from the start. Cooper also did an excellent job at introducing his speech to the audience members.
Secondly, it was incredible to see him recall the past, while the most recent happenings seemed a bit more garbled and construed. He was able to recall names of his influences like Freckles Brown and Casey Tibbs, impressive to me since it was offered up without much thought, which is more than I can say for myself at the young age of 28. While there were a few brief moments of word find difficulty, overall he was able to answer and contribute to the Life Review
Adrian was a fantastic speaker. He focused on his life story, which encouraged and motivated the audience to reach their goals in life. His amazing story focused on a great message which included his hard work, faith, and a difficult speech disability motivated him to fight harder to reach his goals in life.
I enjoyed reading your post; you made such a remarkable comment on the subject. I especially liked the fact that he brought attention to advertisement and drugs. He had such a personality of humor which made the clip interesting. As a matter of fact he was able to keep the audience attention focused upon him in a humor manner. I also have very little knowledge of Bill Maher, but he conducted himself in a professional manner, causing it to very interesting and educating. I think overall his speech was outstanding and everyone respected him. He did show concern for his
