First, the inability to read or write automatically let the pig take advantage of the other animals. The animals were attempting to learn the alphabet however, most couldn't get passed the first letter. "Muriel, the goat, could read [better than] the dogs. . . Benjamin could read as well as any pig, but never exercised his faculty. . . Mollie refused to learn any bu the six letters [which] spelt her own name. . .None of he other animals [could get] further than A." (Orwell, 28) The few animals that did understand how to read and write was inferior to the pig's level of literacy and/or did not use what they knew to their own
They said it was mandatory to move into the farmhouse. When they all agreed that no one should be living in the farm house. They needed a quiet place to work since they were categorized as “intelligent”. The animals weren’t too happy to find out that the pigs were living there. They also decided to sleep in the beds when they agreed that no animal shall sleep in a bed. In the book it says “It was about this time that the pigs suddenly moved into the farmhouse and took up their residence there...It was absolutely necessary, he said, that the pigs, who were the brains of the farm, should have a quiet place to work in. It was also more suited to the dignity of the Leader (for of late he had taken to speaking of Napoleon under the title of "Leader") to live in a house than in a mere sty. Nevertheless, some of the animals were disturbed when they heard that the pigs not only took their meals in the kitchen and used the drawing-room as a recreation room, but also slept in the beds.” ( Ch.6, Animal Farm). But since the pigs were the leaders of the farm there wasn’t much they could
Power corrupts sometimes. To fully take control over Animal Farm, the government spread the message that the farm could not prosper or function without the pigs. This message allowed the pigs to gain many privileges in the farm without question. From the very beginning of the story, the other animals regarded the pigs as the smartest of all the animals in the farm. Because of this, it was naturally assumed that the pigs should lead the farm into rebellion against the humans and guide the animals into a better life. However, the pigs gained more control than the other animals thought they would. The pigs, especially Squealer, convinced the other animals that they should be allowed special privileges because they were shouldering the most “burdens” of all the
Although the pigs in this novel are terrible creatures who do terrible things, they are unfortunately very, very smart. These pigs are power hungry, and they will do anything that it takes to maintain their power. But, to maintain power, the pigs must first gain power. The pigs use education as a way to gain power. After the rebellion in the beginning of the novel, the pigs find books that teach them to read in the farm house. The pigs, being the power hungry animals that they are, teach themselves how to read and write. They know that they are much smarter than all of the other animals on the farm. Since the other animals could not learn how to read or write, the pigs used this as leverage to get power. Because they are the only animals that could read or write, they were quickly thought of as leaders and much
As soon as the revolution starts, Boxer is more devoted than ever to the farm. At the Battle of the Cowshed, Boxer is trying to prove his loyalty to the farm by defending the animals against a stable boy with kicking him with his hoof. “I will work harder.”(Orwell 25)The quote reveals his hard work and devotion to other animals and the farm. Though Boxer is very strong, he is also very naïve. The pigs bossed him around, being blindly loyal to Napoleon. “Napoleon is always right”(Orwell 48) When he says this, it demonstrates that he does not understand that the pigs are using him. He believes that everything Napoleon says is just. While others are trying to learn how to read Boxer does not feel the need he only wants to work harder for the good of the animal farm. Unfortunately, at the end of the book, he is so worn down that he cannot work anymore, so the pigs make the decision to send him to be slaughtered. At this point Boxer realizes that pigs have used him and was not loyal to the animals like he was. Boxer represents the Russian working-class in the Soviet

In the end of the story they are playing cards with the humans and drinking alcohol. After becoming drunk the pigs get into fight with the humans. The Narrator writes, “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which” (Orwell, 141). This quote is saying how because of alcohol you could not tell the difference between the humans and the pigs. Alcohol has turned the pigs just like humans, which they were all

Imagine a tyranny that lasted for an eternity. This would be herculean for anyone to withstand. The tyranny in the book Animal Farm did not. However, there could've been another leader on Animal Farm, Snowball, but could Snowball’s leadership have succeeded?
“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and and from pig to man again, but already it was impossible to say which was which.” Orwell wrote Animal Farm as an allegory based on problems resulting from the Russian Revolution. In Animal Farm, George Orwell uses tone, characterization, and stylistic elements to show that people in power use manipulation to stay in power.
Many companies, like McDonalds, lie about what actually goes on at their farms. “Free range” “Cruelty free” “Killed in a humane way” Those are just some the things that consumers are told and believe everyday. Saying thank you to the animal before munching on its flesh and bones doesn’t excuse what happens to them. The abuse and torture animals go through at factory farms isn’t fair and needs to be stopped immediately.
