Success In Nursing School Analysis

Why would I be successful if admitted into the nursing program? Before answering this question, success must first be personally defined. Students interpret success in different ways. Some students feel successful by simply passing classes while other individuals feel like they’ve failed themselves if they receive anything less than an A. For me, success includes taking initiative for future plans, demonstrating maximum effort, and never giving up. In the nursing program, I will apply these steps to success towards my schoolwork and clinical experiences to make for an excellent candidate.

I have many areas, which I need to improve on within nursing school. I know I need to improve on pharmacology and understanding why the medication is given and the side effects the drug may have. When looking at pharmacology, I understand some medication, but trying to differentiate why one medication is given instead of another that may ultimately do the same action for the diagnosis. There are numerous drugs in health care, it is a bit overwhelming to think we might have to know all of them or at least have a general idea of what all of them do and the side effects they have.

After graduating Anacortes High school I plan on attending a four year private liberal arts university. I will be pursing a Bachelors of Science in Nursing leading to a career as a Registered Nurse. My main interest is a specialty in pediatrics. Following a month stay at Children's Hospital after enduring emergency surgery and a difficult recovery I decided nursing is what I'm meant to do. The nurses inspired me, and I hope that I can help a family and child in the same way that they helped

Target population was pregnant women less than fourteen weeks gestation that had a sedentary lifestyle. The researcher used two data collection instruments to complete this study. The first is The Cornell Protocol Fitness Tool that measured cardiovascular fitness level and peak oxygen consumption. The second data collection instrument used was The Minnesota Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire assessed energy expenditure and daily physical activity. Candidates were excluded if they had chronic hypertension, gestational diabetes, and any medical condition that will prohibit daily exercise, communication problems, or recommendation of primary care provider not to participate (Yeo 2009).

Theory development stems from personal experiences, intuition, and knowledge of the theorist (Burns et al., 2013). When a scholar develops a theory, it has to be tested through research. The findings of the study are then presented to experts in the area of academics and the field of practice (Burns et al., 2013). The presentation of the findings allows experts to provide constructive criticism, highlight the pros and cons of the theory, and acknowledge whether or not the theory can be accepted as a guide to practice. This theory evaluation paper will give the reader a theory description, theory analysis, and an assessment of Dorothea Orem’s self-care deficit theory of nursing (Alligood et al., 2010).

This paper discusses two challenges that I have with obtaining success in the nursing program; the psychological and the physical distress of being a single mother. Furthermore, discusses four strategies for success in the nursing program; stay organized, study groups, take care of oneself, and invest in comfortable shoes. Lastly, discuss four example of how I will add those strategies in my study plan.

I am a hardworking student who is highly motivated to go to college and pursue a nursing career. I try my best to be the most responsible person I can be by always completing all the duties and responsibilities that need to be completed. I am able to learn and memorize information in a short amount of time and be able to remember it afterward. These qualities can be very beneficial when it comes to succeeding in college. I am the type of person who does not give up and always tries to find a way out of any situation. I believe I am a very patient person and willing to help anybody and believe this is important when it comes to pursuing a nursing career. I believe the qualities I have developed throughout the years will help me be able to succeed

I feel I was not successful in nursing 120 for the fall semester for a multiple reasons in regards to my personal life. I have always gone to college away from home and being at home for the first semester was a hard adjustment. I was accustom to only focusing on my college course work without having to deal with the reality of my home life. I had a difficult time balancing the stress from my home life and college work. I always had the support system of my mother and stepfather but during the beginning of the semester my parents separated. It was hard to deal with not having the support system of both my parents. What has surprised you? I think the most surprising thing about my nursing school journey has been how much I have grown and changed as a person in the past two years. I have become a much more assertive and direct person. I have a greater appreciation for the monotonous moments in my life and have learned how to not over think things and just to appreciate every moment and day for itself. Part of this group come about from clinical and part of it developed through my work experience as a nurse tech in the Emergency Department at Seattle Children’s Hospital. I personally have grown and learned a lot from the kids that I have worked with and its taught me the importance of slowing down and living in the moment. It’s also taught me that happiness is something that only you can determine. I feel that throughout all my clincials I have learned important life lessons from the people from every age and stage of life. All of these lessons have helped to shape me into a more compassionate, understanding, and better therapeutic communicator with my patients and have shaped my personal nursing practice.

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to work in the medical field. From performing imaginary check ups on my community of dolls as a child to watching medical television shows, being able to enter the workforce with the skills to start a nursing career has been my most desired goal from a young age. When it comes to achieving that goal, hard work, dedication, and my lifelong passion for pursuing nursing will get me where I need to be in order to successfully complete Davenport University’s Nursing Program.

In 1860, Florence Nightingale founded the first modern nursing school to break the stigma of previous nursing views and provide appropriate training to nurses (Finkelman & Kenner, 2016). Since then, the nursing profession has dramatically evolved over the last centuries.

I am Jessica Donnelly a sophomore at Wagner College. I grew up in Manalapan New Jersey with my family which included, my mother, father, older brother and younger sister. When looking at colleges to attend my senior year of high school, I had chosen Wagner as the next step in my educational career. This school was the right choice for me because of the excellent nursing program the school provided and the scholar ship money I was receiving for playing soccer. I had set many goals for myself freshman year that I had achieved. This year I have new goals that I hope to accomplish as well. One of the many goals I hope to carry out in sophomore year is to continue working hard and keeping my grade point average above a 3.5. With keeping an average of a 3.5 or above I will be able to get in to the Nursing Program that Wagner has to offer. When applying for the Nursing Program I must not only have an acceptable grade point average but I must be able to pass a nursing test. Pearson (2013) clarifies “clinical decision making is essential to every aspect of care delivered to a patient” (p. 214). It is the ability to blend information and make decisions that will later be implemented in the situation. Evidence-based decision making involves choosing from a variety of possibilities and combining the knowledge through research and the scientific evaluation of one’s practice. The purpose of this paper is to analyze my decision of administering ativan by advocating for the patient and anticipating her change prior to confirming signs; which provided a therapeutic response.

Expectations are defined as something that you believe will happen to you. Before nursing school, I had several expectations. Some of these expectations have shown to be very true while adapting to this new lifestyle. Other expectations have fallen to the waist side and soon were forgotten. At the time, they seemed to be very real. I expected to study, study, and study some more. I wanted the program to be challenging and prepare me to be a nurse. I expected to struggle financially because of having to reduce my days off work. I thought this would give me extra study time and I would make all As on every assignment. I hoped to form study groups to ensure that I would excel in making those grades. But, my most important expectation of myself was to stay organized and ahead on all assignments. I expected this to get me through nursing school.
