Social Work Practice Assessment

(a) There are typically six assessment methods that we can chose to employ within your role. These are listed below along with examples of when and how they could be implemented:

1.4 Explain why it is important to be clear about the purpose and desired outcomes for the group

After completing the group task of preparing a presentation on, transferring individual facilitation skills into a group work setting I will critically reflect upon my own participation. I will evaluate my self-awareness while working in the group, as well as those around me. The way that I personally dealt with any issues that arose within the group and how that affected the group dynamics. I will also briefly discuss the roles in which each member of the group took and how role allocation affected, the group dynamics and the working relationships. Finally I will evaluate my work having discussed it with my fellow group members.

Assessment is used to make a specific educational decision and is the process of evaluating the extent to which participants in education have developed their knowledge, understanding and skills.

In social work practice, client assessments are important because they allow social workers to gather information from clients. This information helps the acting social worker better understand clients presenting problems. The assessment also helps social workers evaluate a client’s progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions used. In this paper, a multidimensional assessment will be performed on a client I have been working with at my internship placement, Urban Ministries of Durham. Once all relevant information is presented, and intervention and treatment plan will be discussed.

The function of assessment in learning and development is primarily to provide a measurable barometer for the students progress.

I learned that different people have different plans on getting better some takes longer while others get better faster some can perform more things quicker and better while for others it takes time. I can foresee challenges to using this technique if an individual is in an extreme state of denial re: a presenting problem or if an individual is impaired psychologically, for example experiencing psychosis and unable to rationalize change stages. In these cases, I would view the social workers role as one that assists the individual in allocating restorative services/supports to promote a state where they can consider change

Within the classroom their needs to be a variety of assessment strategies as not all learners will be able to express their knowledge to the best of their ability in some forms of assessment.

In this paper I will identify the need for the group that was chosen. Part of the discussion will concentrate on the three key values used in the group approach with this population. The other will address models and theories of group practice, and the approach used by this group. The paper will also look at the key challenges or obstacles in group interventions with this population. Using the worksheet planning guide for social work group’s eight headings will be discussed. Briefly the readings from the course syllabus will be used in the development plan and incorporated in the paper will be the plans for an initial group session. Based on the skills inventory three critical skills will be addressed. Lastly a critique of a proposed group will be conducted.

The member would have the opportunity to give valuable insight to how their group functions will be impacted during the implementation phase.

After the video, there were group discussions. The groups spoke about what they would like to do to make a difference and how would they want to make an impact. The small group activities helped motivate, inspire and guide students to start something that matters, according to Somerville.

Trust is another important function in our group. If we trust our group members, we don’t need to worry about his or her part of the work. Then, we can help each otherc to finish the difficult part. The goals also have important function. When we set up a group, we discuss about our goals, all of my group members want to get a good grade in this class, and I am a senior student, I will do my best to finish my group project.

The authors of our book illustrated that consultancy draws knowledge, values, and skills of social workers and clients to clarify issues, recognize strengths, discuss options and identify potential courses of action. Social workers empower clients by respecting their competence, drawing on their strengths, and working with them collaboratively to discover solutions (Miley, 2017, p. 13).

Overall I believe my key contribution to the task overall was to provide the group with a structured approach and to make sure there was a precise order to when the presentation was presented so it would look as professional and well understood as possible.
