Abstract
I was a sophomore in High School in New Haven , Michigan when In school I decided to walk home and skip school, my house was empty at the time so I decided to go into my room and take a nap and that’s when it happened for the very first time. I had awakened and I felt this heavy weight on my body and another feeling that I can only describe as if someone is lying on top of me, forcing me down (hence holding my whole body down) holding my lips and eyelids shut. I could hear though. This lasted for about 10 seconds. During these 10 seconds all sorts of thoughts started running through my mind questioning the reality of this phenomenon and even extended to states where I

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTST), fatigue, heavy physical activity, extreme changes in physical activity, jetlag and other stress-related conditions may bring about sleep paralysis due to the disturbance of sleep cycles. Some researchers have also reported a link between childhood sexual abuse and sleep paralysis. Numerous researches have also been done linking final stages of pregnancy to sleep paralysis.

Sleep paralysis is a common condition with a prevalence of 5-62%, although most affected people have single or infrequent episodes (Dahlitz). Occasionally sleep paralysis is found to run in a family, and it can be associated with other disorders of hypersomnia, such as sleep apnea (Becker 81). Narcolepsy has also been linked with sleep paralysis; both are thought to be REM sleep disorders (Siegel). Gender and race do not seem to be a factor of risk for this disorder. The episodes of sleep paralysis seem to range from ages 5-35 (Dahlitz). The use of anxiolytic medicines, psychiatric disorders and high anxiety can also contribute to sleep paralysis (Larkin).
My head felt as if it was too explode, blood was dripping down from my forehead, and a throbbing pain was coming from my leg. At first I had no idea where I was or what was happening. In the distance I could hear a scream, although it was fading and my eyesight was blurry. I tried to stand up as I remember but I was not able too. I kept wondering to myself if this was a dream, but I felt pain. Terrible pain. How could I feel this much pain if it was a dream. Then all at once it came back to me. The memory, the fear, the frightfulness, the nervousness, and the sadness.
It was dark whenever I woke up from my slumber. I was a very heavy sleeper so I knew that someone or something had woken me up. Looking around my room, I noticed a small glint of metal coming from across the room. I suspected it was just a necklace or something catching light from the full moon outside. Then, I fell back asleep without a care in the world. Suddenly I was jolted awake by the sound of a muffled voice saying "Hurry! Knock him out before he hears us!" Then I felt a large pain my arm from a needle and fell into a drug-induced sleep.
Fortunately I didn’t, but this did happen to me: as I was closing my eyes, I started hearing these really weird popping sounds. Like, click-click-click. Over and over again – and they actually got louder! Okay, there was nothing – nothing – in the room that might have did that. No fan, no heating, no AC, no television, clock, watch, whatever! It was the most basic hotel room ever. And the clicks sounded as if something was floating above me! Like circling above me, like a swarm of bees or something. I was scared sh*tless, but I just tried to go to sleep. And never opened my eyes until the morning, when the bright sun shone in the room. Going to breakfast, I saw the bullet holes left in the ceiling by Billy the Kid and other saloon fighters, and heard the stories told by the kitchen staff about plates and silverware that would randomly fall to the ground and break, and the flickering lights, and other freaky things which I forgot.
Some signs of cataplexy are slurred speech, weakness of muscles, and intense emotions. Cataplexy effects muscle tone while awake, effects part or all of your body, may make your head nod, ,may be hard to speak, falling (weakening at the knees), and strong emotions. During this time, you're usually awake. In addition, hallucinations are another symptom pointing towards the condition narcolepsy. These hallucinations are called hypnologic hallucinations. Due to the fact that you may be awake when you're dreaming, these dreams may seem like reality or may be nightmares. Some signs of having a hallucination are vivid dreams when falling asleep, waking up, dozing, and life-like dreams. Finally, sleep paralysis is a symptom of narcolepsy. Sleep paralysis prevents you from moving or speaking while falling asleep and waking up. During this period you are fully conscious. Some signs you have sleep paralysis is you don't sleep well at night, you have trouble falling and staying asleep, nightmares interrupt sleep, having difficulty finishing daily tasks, and being hyperactive.
The study was performed and executed as a cross-sectional questionnaire, consisting of six parts. Each of the six parts was designed to target different aspects of sleep routines and personality constructs. In a sample of 606 students, 61.4% reported to have experienced intense or extremely intense fear during an episode of sleep paralysis. It was also discovered that 37% of SP sufferers experience episodes several times a year. The article provides further analysis of the data, demonstrating that Spearman’s rank correlation indicates significant positive association between higher scores on the STAI test for anxiety and the DES-T test for dissociative experiences with more frequent sleep paralysis episodes. This report contains ethos and logos, as the writers included quantitative data paired with visuals, analysis for correlation ranks with the data produced, and demonstrates obvious replicability valid results. Researchers at any university or facility could utilize the six tests used by Lišková et. al and measure occurrence and predictive factors of sleep paralysis in any sample population. Of the 606 students, only two individuals reported nightly episodes of sleep paralysis, representing only 0.330% of the sample
Clinically sleep paralysis "consists of a period of inability to perform voluntary movements either at sleep onset (hypnagogic or predormital form) or upon awakening either during the night or in the morning (hypnopompic or postdormital form)." (American Sleep Disorders Association, 1990, p.162).

I felt as if I was paralyzed, I felt that if I moved it would be real. I just had this blank look on my face. I had no reaction at first and I wanted to deny it, all of it. I kept saying to myself, no it is a lie, they made a mistake. To my complete horror I was wrong.
Sleep paralysis can be the caused of many things such as , lack of sleep, stress and sadness,or just not being in a good mood in general. There are a lot of different factors that come toghether to cause this sort of problem known as sleep paralsyis.and what happens during sleep paralysis is not only that your body enters a state of not being able to physically move but your mind wakes up while you were in these dreams, you are not lucid you are fully conscious you can simply not move your body. Its different from lucid dreaming because youre merging to seperate worlds, the lucid world and the conscious world. And to the state of your mind thinking that its still in a dream when you are truly fully awake. It is so hazy from the sensations that happen within your rem cycle within your dreams that thus because of this, doesnt know its woken up. Whats scary about this state is our mind and body would not actually take in ;sound, sight ,hearing, smell, all these different factors are coming into our body at the time when our mind is waking up but our body wont move . it makes these sensations overload our brain and because of these factors, which people recieve horrible experience that people
Sleep paralysis was nothing new to him and he'd long ago lost that deep panic that comes with not being able to move even a single muscle after waking up fully aware in the middle of the night, but this time something was wrong. The fear he'd felt for so long had eventually turned into annoyance, but in this moment, he felt it rising back into his consciousness.
after i slept for five minutes i heard something fell into the ground i tried to ignored it and i slept. about 2 hour later I was half asleep when I felt like I was being uncomfortable at my chest
I was 16 years old the first time it ever happened to me. It has happened to me countless times since, each time slightly different. Not having control over your body due to a force unseen is a bone-chilling feeling. Nonetheless, I have recently discovered that there is in fact a worldly explanation for these episodes I have grown to fear over the years. Now, due to a greater understanding of the sleeping
