Important skills for the workplace today
Nowadays, workers are being requested getting more and more challenges and difficulties in every aspects of working environments. Employers are looking to people who have special skills which can apply directly to many different tasks. Therefore, people have been competed to figure out and practice their personal skills since they are still in the college. To solve these problems, adaptation is a significant factor. Workers will need to use adaptation skills to respect and accept other people lives. When they can adapt the differences from others, they know how to change their perspectives and appreciate others abilities(“Internet data” 2010). For example, a group of workers are doing a project. They come from different countries with different styles, cultures and religions. They must avoid making any discrimination to each others. So, in this situation they need adaptation skills. It will help you to accept and work well with others. Each person must change their perspectives a bit to link with others. Just when they can do that, they can have a good expectation about their project. They use adaptation skills to have better quality in their jobs. And that’s why workers with adaptation skills will be looked by employers. On the other hand, how students can improve this skill is also a topic that has been widely discussed. Personally, I think college is very good place to practice adaptation skills because there are many different kinds of people in the college. It means they need to learn to adapt different styles from friends, classmates or teachers. Everyone can’t enforce others to follow them. But when they try to understand and adapt others styles by a right way which also can call one kind of practicing adaptation skills such as different teachers have different
Another skill that is demanded throughout the workforce is attention to details. Most jobs in a company deal with small fragments of that company, which if altered in the slightest, can make the larger picture of the business crumble. I work in a hospital setting, and if one test tube is labeled incorrectly or misplaced then a patient could be seriously hurt or even die due to neglect. This could also lead to a lawsuit and the company to would undoubtedly cease to function. This skill is so important, that my current boss later told me in private that if I had not proven my ability to pay attention to details then I would not have gotten the job.
Functional skills are defined as ‘practical skills in English, information and communication technology (ICT) and mathematics that allow individuals to work confidently, effectively and independently in life.’ (The Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency, 2010). These skills are often termed ‘transferable skills’ as they can be applied (or transferred) to different situations/contexts (Gravells. A, 2008).
While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important. No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals, whatever they may be.
Employability skills means a group of essential abilities that involve the development of a knowledge base, expertise level and mind-set that is increasingly necessary for success in the modern workplace.
This week in the field as an intern for the Department of Social Services, I was able to complete in-office tasks and complete a home visit with my supervisor. On Monday my supervisor informed me she and other coworkers were in need of creating a new resource manual that would be up to date with the current resources in the Midlands area. Therefore, one of the tasks completed this week was creating a resource manual that would have more resources with up to date numbers, addresses, and contact persons. During this process, I was able to understand the importance of workers having the manual up to date with more resources added to it. Competency skill 9 states a professional social worker, “Actively refers clients to community resources.” With this being required of a professional
The first year of Business Administration program sufficiently covers almost all of the skills described in the Employability skills 2000+ handout from the Conference Board of Canada, at least as well as can be done in a single year.
Cultural Competence is a complicated assimilation of education, beliefs, and experiences which would strengthen communication and efficient interaction cross-culturally. However, culture is defined as one way of life. It is not defined by race, language, food, religion, and ethics. With a job that involves constant involvement or entanglement with different culture, it is important for cultural competence. To be cultural competent is the ability to know one difference but still understands, respect, and safeguard the individual right to self-confidence, self- interpretation and status. Nevertheless, working with people of different cultural diversity might be difficult especially it differs from our own core culture. Therefore to prevent bias
The skills needed to be successful in today's workforce have changed somewhat for the better and somewhat for the worse, depending on the job. At some places that people are hired it seems like they hardly have to have any skills in order to get the job. Other places require a lot of skills before someone can even be hired and certain degrees must be obtained and tests must be taken. Fast food restaurants, grocery stores, and other restaurants should be a lot more strict about the types of people that they hire. There are certain skills that are required to be successful while working today, and there are some extra skills needed in jobs that involve working with people. Depending on the job, some skills can be learned during college or training
There are several different skills that are important to have to have no matter what the job
Skills for Tomorrow is government-sponsored organizations tasked with helping at-risk young adults gain vocational training toward preparing them for a successful career in several different industries. The Harrisburg Skills for tomorrow located in Pennsylvania is constantly in the lower half of the rankings and has been constantly declining.
The other skills is “Flexibility is about an employee and an employer making changes to when, where and how a person will work to better meet individual and business needs. Flexibility enables both individual and business needs to be met through making changes to the time (when), location (where) and manner (how) in which an employee works. Flexibility should be mutually beneficial to both the employer and employee and result in superior outcomes. (http://workplaceflexibility.bc.edu)” Flexibility is very important in today’s workplace because employers are looking for workers who are willing to travel and who could come in at any time when there are needed. There also want the workers to be flexibility with changes in the workplace, which there company could grow. The other skill is that today’s workers are willing to learn new things. Many employers look for employees who are able to adapt to new things. As I said many baby boomers are retiring early, because technology systems and operating them is hard for him to learn. But there could keep that job if there are willing to learn the new technology.
Everyone has a certain skill that they may be strong or weak at in both school or in work. There are skills required in order to create an efficient working environment. However, every person generally has a flaw or a skill that they are efficient in, which may reflect their career readiness. Despite everyone's flaw, throughout our life, we can be able to improve through experience. As for myself, I consider myself confident in managing multiple task and valuing work, but I need to improve my communication skills.
In this paper I will explore the four soft skills I have selected that are important to my mentorship opportunity and how these soft skills would positively impact my mentorship experience. I am currently involved in the Leadership Mentor Program at work where senior leadership is involved in mentoring an employee who has been nominated by their peers and is interested in a leadership position. The four soft skills I have chosen are as follows: 1) Communication Skills, 2) Analytic and Problem Solving Skills, 3) Team Skills and 4) Computer Skills. First, I will analyze the importance of each skill to my mentorship by identifying which skill is important to my mentorship. I will further examine each skill and provide examples of how the skills relate to my field of study, Business Management. Finally, I will reflect on how my own soft skills could positively impact my own soft skills could positively impact my mentorship.
Academic writing also needs to develop, because I always got a low grade on any written assignment that needs to hand it in. The way to grow this skill is to keep read book and newspaper and paste the reading that red on the notebook also the same strategy with reading is keep listening to the radio.
Today's workforce is undoubtedly varied. Creating an environment that is acceptable and optimum for performing is what you want in the business environment. This will reduce the chances that an employee will feel under-valued, which can ultimately affect absenteeism rates and employee turnover. More diverse companies produce better results. Companies that respect and support individual employees ethnicity, age, gender, skills, and abilities provide for an all-inclusive atmosphere that allows employees to feel comfortable. Understanding cultural mannerisms, linking them to there abilities and not taking there age and gender to heart may help the judgement of candidates for their job skills, not their interview skills.
