The Serial Killer’s Escape from Humanity
The serial killer is a person that goes on to kill multiple people over a period of time. There has been many serial killers throughout history. The serial killer is a means of escape from human civilization. A human civilization that deals with social norms, responsibilities, and dullness of life.
First of all, the serial killer is a means of escape from human civilization’s social norms. Social norms are the expected ways people are supposed to act around other people. They are unwritten laws people try to follow every day. The serial killer escapes and defies these social norms by living a life of their own. A dull life is a very boring life. A lifestyle that involves waking up and doing the same routine every single day. Years of repletion can make a human go crazy. It gets to the point where you will do anything just to have fun. The serial killer kills to escape a bland lifestyle. This is represented very well in Bruce A. Evans’ 2007 film Mr. Brooks. Earl brooks is a known businessman. His life is boring, and builds a strange fetish of murder to keep him entertained. When Mr. Brooks is murdering his victims you can see a sense of joy strike into his life. The serial killer at that moment escapes from his boring life, and lives in a world of his own at the moment. The serial killer, as we can see escapes human civilization’s social norms, responsibilities, and dullness of life. The serial killer is clearly a means of escaping human civilization. An alternative reason for escaping human civilization can be because of peoples mind set, be away from big groups, and even escape judgement.
