Round Characters

The characters are a pivotal part of a narrative “because they provide a personification of the beliefs being described” (More, 2009, p.349). There are two different types of characters within a narrative: round and flat. Literary devices states, that “round characters are major characters in a story, who encounter contradictory situations, and undergo transformation during this phase. Therefore, these characters do not remain the same throughout the narrative.” In contrast, a flat character is a “type of character in fiction that does not change too much from the start of the narrative to its end” (Literary Devices, 2018). They are a pivotal role because they show how their actions affect the victim. The first instance we see of the traffickers is the women with the victim in the cab. She has barks direct orders to the driver to go to an address while the victim is trying to have a friendly conversation. The victim responds to the cab drivers question of where she is originally from, but as soon as she responds the women says demands him to drive and not talk. Quickly, the audience realizes who has the power in the film. Moreover, the first scene that we see the trafficker couple together is in the car stalking the victim. He states, “go get her… she will make us some money” (A21, 2018). This statement shows the true intentions of traffickers, it does not matter who the person is, but can she make us money. When they take the victim to dinner them man grabs a pile of cash from his pocket and the victim’s eyes widen. He hands her the hundred-dollar bill and the contract was made without the victim’s knowledge. After this scene, the man is continually giving items to the victim like necklaces and make-up to increase her appearance. There is no harm insinuated from eh traffickers until an aggressive argument takes place in the hotel room, and the victim sits there and just takes the abuse.
