Occasionally everyone makes atrocious decisions, and usually, these choices do not cause an enormous negative impact on their future. In the classic Romeo and Juliet, the outcome of the characters’ demise is a result of their fast pace-decisions, their ignorance/assumptions, and their lack of ability in accepting responsibility. Throughout the characterization of both Romeo and Juliet, they have both made fast pace-decisions. Firstly, Romeo’s quick transition between his strong love for Rosaline to his immortal love for Juliet is unintelligent. Throughout the first act, Romeo is obsessed with Rosaline Capulet. He says, "the all-seeing sun ne'er saw her match since first the world begun"(1.2.95). This is important because it shows how fast …show more content…
Secondly, the two lovers believe that they undoubtedly are in love without even knowing the other person. Their desire to stay together is so strong that they believe that they can not survive without each other, which is the reason they get married. Prior to them getting married, Friar Lawrence warns Romeo and gives him advice on slowing things down. “These violent delights have violent ends/And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,/Which, as they kiss, consume./The sweetest honey/Is loathsome in his own deliciousness/And in the taste confounds the appetite./Therefore, love moderately. Long love doth so” (2.6.9-14). Which means that all these delights will have sudden endings. The Friar also says that these joys burn up in victory like when fire and gunpowder come in contact they explode. He goes on to say that honey does indeed taste delicious, however, too much will make you indisposed. Lastly, Romeo and Juliet get married secretly without even consulting their parents once because they assumed their parents would never agree. However, earlier on in the play, Capulet also says that he's too old to keep on feuding with the Montagues. Lord Capulet also stopped Tybalt from fighting Romeo, when he came to the
In Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, two young lovers take their lives after their family feud reignites . A variety of decisions along with circumstance no one person could account for set the story of Romeo and Juliet up to be a tragedy. Many of the decisions in the play are made quickly and while emotions are running high, so frequently they result in bad outcomes. So, the rash and impulsive decisions made by men in Romeo and Juliet create the problems within the play.
To think or not to think; that is the question. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Frair warns Romeo, “wisely and slow, they stumble that run fast”. Many people tend to not slow down to think through their decisions, adopting the “You Only Live Once” motto. “Living in the moment” or moving too fast could be potentially dangerous. Romeo and Juliet moved too he fast and they ended up dead. If you move too fast in modern life you could get in serious trouble and in some cases, lose your life as so it happened to Romeo and Juliet.
In William Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet, we meet the characters and how their actions led to a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet met, end up falling in love, and – since both cannot dream of living without the other – take their lives. While the play ends in a tragic death for both characters, it was their own reckless decisions; though others might believe that it was destiny that played a large role in the lovers’ downfall. However, the majority of the text evidence points to them making their own choices leading to their demise.
The play, Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is about a tragedy of two star crossed lovers who want nothing more than to be together forever. “…Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.” (2.2.35-36) Romeo, a Montague, who is young and passionate, meets Juliet at a Capulet party. When they meet, it’s love at first sight. Juliet, a Capulet, is a beautiful young lady tired of being controlled by her father, Lord Capulet. The two families are in a never ending feud that comes between Romeo and Juliet’s love. In the course of four and a half days, Romeo and Juliet plan their marriage with the help of Priest Friar Laurence and Juliet’s Nurse. After the couple is married,
“Wisely and slow – they stumble that run fast” a wise priest warns one passionate lover, Romeo as he stumbles to share the news of the accepted marriage. Unfortunately for the characters, none of them seem to take these wise words in consideration. Passionate love and passionate hate propel the characters to immediate, and irrational actions. A perfect example of impatience in this play is when Romeo comes to the conclusion that his lover Juliet is lifeless. He hastily takes his life without stopping to think of the consequences. If he had been patient, and rational he and his love could have been together on earth. But because of his drastic measures, when Juliet awoke seeing Romeo partly
Once in a while many people make bad decisions. Usually these decisions don’t cause them any harm in their futures, unlike Romeo Montague’s and Juliet Capulet’s decisions. In Verona, a city in Italy, two lovers fall in love. The catch is their families despise each other. Eventually Romeo get’s banished from Verona, and Juliet is forced to marry someone she doesn’t want to marry. Juliet takes a potion that knocks her out for 42 hours, and feigns her death, hoping she does not have to marry Count Paris. Romeo assumes Juliet is dead, and drinks a potion that kills him, and when Juliet wakes up and realizes that Romeo is dead, she stabs herself. In William Shakespeare’s tragic play, Romeo and Juliet, the main protagonists, Romeo and Juliet,
One might believe that fate or destiny is the crucial reasons behind the characters catastrophe. However, it is actually the impulses and the inability to control it which results in the enormous amount of tragedies in this play. In the play, Romeo and Juliet by William shakespeare; Romeo, Juliet and Mercutio are pivotal characters who choose to make decisions on impulses. Haste combined with the dearth of impulse management is the main reason of this play’s several tragic events. If a number of the characters gained the power to carry off their impulsive acts and ponder things through, there would be a better chance that the deaths of lover, Juliet and others may have been avoided. This essay will argue that the idea of haste, and lack of
As a late father, author, experienced polymath, brilliant inventor and politician Benjamin Franklin often informed people to “take time for all things: great haste makes great waste.” Being one of the founding fathers of the United States, Franklin declared that haste will lead to missed opportunities and chaos. He also indicated that you should take time to think of every outcome, that may include thinking about other people’s fate or just your own. The adults and the young adolescents in this play are all at fault for the rivalry. In Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet the majority of the conflicts constructed have been by haste and immaturity created by the young adolescents and a sufficient amount of adults.
The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare has long been a topic of controversy regarding who is to blame for the death of the two protagonists. The two lovers themselves, Romeo and Juliet, each have their individual flaws which contribute to the drastic outcome of the story. Romeo is to blame because of his impulsive and arrogant personality. Juliet is to blame because of her excessive belief in fate, and willingness to succumb to her fate. The combination of the two brings misfortune and instigates their demise. The two lovers are to blame for their own deaths, as their individual flaws, when brought together, creates a chain of events that destroys their relationship.
The message conveyed by Romeo and Juliet validates the realization that our choices may have stronger outcomes than we intend. Shakespeare portrays experiences that characters had undergone to show important lessons that are applicable to our own lives. Consequently, they are reminders that in many cases, people tend to rush through decisions, and it is inevitable that blunders are an effect of acting on impulse. With careful consideration, our choices and actions have a greater probability of leading to more positive and desired
Romeo and Juliet were facing many obstacles during the time they first encountered one another. Their, so-called, “love” sprung as they were both trying to escape from their present problems. Romeo was previously in love with a beautiful girl named Rosaline, although she couldn’t love him back and fulfill Romeo’s sexual desires because she was becoming a nun. He was heartbroken when he found out about this, and thus, he was left inconsolable. Once he discovered that Rosaline was attending the Capulet ball, he decided to sneak in. Minutes into the ball, Romeo sees Juliet and immediately professes his love for her. Juliet also had her own dilemmas to deal with. Some of which included being forced into marrying Paris, a man whom she did not love. Therefore, her love for Romeo was influenced by her reluctance to marry Paris. Prior to Romeo and Juliet’s encounter at the Capulet party, Juliet comments on marriage stating, “It is an honor that I dream not of,” (1.3.68). This quote shows that Juliet had no interest in getting married anytime soon, although when she meets
Many people don 't believe that fate even exists. These people feel that one controls his or her own future. But in the case of the play, Romeo and Juliet written by Willian Shakespeare, this is not true. Romeo and Juliet is a story about two "star-crossed lovers" who ultimately die due to their fate. Since the moment they first time they met, things began in motion. These two lovers could not have done anything to change their course of fate, thus, why the story of Romeo and Juliet is a story controlled by fate, rather than a tragedy.
The world moves so fast, but the haste in people’s decisions lead to dreadful consequences. These haste decisions have become the downfall of the world. This is shown in the play “Romeo & Juliet”, where two star-crossed lovers are forced to keep their love a secret from their families. Also forcing them to get married in secret then to never live together. Shakespeare shows the audience how making hasty decisions may lead to dire consequences through Juliet’s decision to marry Romeo, Juliet’s choice to drink the potion given to her by Friar Lawrence, and Juliet’s decision to kill herself with Romeo’s dagger.
First and foremost, Romeo’s indecisiveness is unspeakable. This is because Romeo is first deeply in love with Rosaline, who doesn't love him back equally. Rosaline’s reaction basically appalled Romeo, because Rosaline decided to become a nun. Meaning that she wants to live under vows of chastity. We all know that it takes a long time to
However, their “love” leads them into new problems.Which resulted them into making rash decisions. They could’ve easily avoided these conflicts, by talking to their parents about their marriage, but that is not what they decided to do. Romeo and Juliet’s decisions are never well thought out at all, since all their decisions lead to suicide threats. In addition, both of them are very self-centered becuase, it never occured to them that if they died it could effect other peoples lives terribly. William Shakespeare is showing us, how their decisions will affect themselves in the future. He demonstrates that love should be taken slowly and peacefully. But in Romeo and Juliet’s case love is very fast and unpleasant. William Shakespeare states that, “ As if that name, shot from the deadly level of a gun, Did murder her, as that names cursed hand Murder'd her kinsman. O, tell me Friar, tell me, In what vile part of this anatomy Doth my name lodge? Tell me, that I may sack The hateful mansion” (A.3 s.3 l.102-108). Romeo is very upset in himself because he believes that Juliet is heartbroken, that he had just killed her cousin, Tybalt. Therefore, he threatened Friar Lawrence, suicide by drawing his dagger. This indicates how Shakespeare describes young love as misleading, because Romeo is very impulsive. He is not thinking this through with Friar Lawrence at all. Instead, he
