Within the last decade, health care has gone through drastic changes due to reforms that have impacted all levels of the United States health care system. From the 2010 enactment of the Affordable Care Act, the financial operations of many medical institutions have faced many improved and challenging transformations. Many of these transformations included the day to day administrative tasks, increased overhead expenses, and incurred costs brought on by practice and hospital adherence to new reforms. Currently, there is much debate on new reforms that would assist in improving the financial operations of the current health care system. Correspondingly, strong reforms have the ability to assist in making the health care system more efficient
1. Throughout history, a number of reformers have sought to improve the quality of medical care. What common thread connects them? Why did some fail? What were the successful able to see/do that others weren’t?
In a world of budget cut and layoffs, medical corporations face new and different challenges in addition to helping and healing patients. I used to work as a medical biller in a physician’s office for five years and I experienced how difficult for the health care providers to get reimbursed. The government and the insurance companies have been limiting the budget towards the health care services. This action also affects the hospitals greatly because Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and some policymakers have requested the hospitals to reduce the
As we all know, the United States has been and continues to be on the edge of national health reforms due to uncontrolled healthcare costs. Since the U.S. health care system does not lead the world in health of its own citizens, 28 million Americans remain uninsured and 30 Million more are underinsured as of 2016 (Jama, 2016). The national health reform started in the early 1900s when the American people faced sickness that led to poverty. Working people had to miss work due to sickness which led to a loss of their wages and steady income, making it hard to pay for medical expenses. The decreased income, made it hard to seek medical attention, because it became a matter of just being able to cover necessities. President Theodore Roosevelt
The article I choose for the Unit 4 Assignment addresses how health care reform is unfinished business in United States. We still have many barriers to overcome if we to provide coverage and access to everyone who cannot afford it. Since I am earning a degree in Health Information Technology and already work in the health care industry this article is relevant to my field of study. This is a hot topic in our country today as it seems that everyone has an opinion on this subject whether for or against the Affordable Care Act. I am including my freewriting on this article below:
The United States’ first black President Barack Obama had presented a new health care plan to help all Americans receive proper health care. The health insurance reform does provide better security and stability to Americans with health insurance and helps provide health insurance to the uninsured. This reform also lower’s the cost of health care for the American people, American businesses, and the American government. The health insurance reform issue is progressing, as President Barack Obama is committed to change. President Obama encouraged all American people and political parties to work together to find a solution for the health-care crisis. However, some Government officials oppose health care plans due to higher tax rates.
The implementation of the healthcare reform to the people throughout the United States provides healthcare coverage to all Americans increasing the accessibility to quality healthcare coverage making it more affordable for families. Throughout this paper I will discuss how effective the healthcare reform has been for the state of Pennsylvania, describing what the positive and negative outcomes are, and how the it has impacted the community health within my state. I will further discuss what effects the health care reform has had on economics in health care within my state.
It should come as no surprise that the United States’ current health care system is in need of some major changes. Everyone knows that going to the doctor or hospital in the United States can cost a lot of money out of pocket, whether you have insurance or not. Americans who do have insurance pay into it with every pay check, only to go to the doctor and have to pay more. What it would be like to not have to worry about how much money there is in the bank when someone is sick? When a person is ill there are enough things to worry about without having to worry if they can afford the doctor bill. What are some of the pros and cons of a health care reform for the United States?
There is so little contradiction that government should be engaged in one way or another in creating a solution that gives Americans in need of medical assistance the right to life, liberty and the continued pursuit of happiness. The disagreements come in recognizing the failure of government to properly handle other socialized systems, the amount of government oversight that should be imposed, and the coverage that should be part of any comprehensive national healthcare solution.
Health care reform in the United States has a long history. Reforms have often been proposed but have rarely been accomplished.Future reforms of the American health care system continue to be proposed, with notable proposals including a single payer system and a reduction in fee for service medical care.
The U.S. healthcare framework fails to meet expectations contrasted and different nations on various measurements access, quality, and productivity (Baicker, 2004). The United States spends on healthcare services twice per capita what the normal industrialized country spends, hence elaborating of inefficiencies in management of these services (Baicker, 2004). High U.S. healthcare care spending without similar increases in health results has driven a few specialists to reason that the U.S. healthcare framework is on the level part of the generation bend for healthcare administrations, or maybe past the purpose of consistent losses. An alternate conclusion could be drawn in particular, that the United
Due to the passing of Obamacare, also known as The Affordable Care Act, American’s today are provided more access to healthcare than ever before. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law by President Barack Obama in March 2010 and signifies universal healthcare reform. This legislation includes provision in healthcare to extend coverage to millions of uninsured Americans. The ACA reform bill contains many other important changes as well, including, implemented measures to lower healthcare costs, improve system efficiency, eliminate coverage denial for pre-existing conditions, and increase coverage for children or dependents to age 26. What effect will this new law for healthcare reform have on hospitals, individuals, nurses, other healthcare providers, and on America? Throughout this paper the author will explore the changes and how our economy, political, and healthcare delivery system is affected.
The Frieden (2010) article suggests that in order to get long lasting results to resolve a health care matter, the intervention should include a variety of levels from the Health Impact pyramid. The bottom tiers of the pyramid tend to have the greatest impact. However, they are often harder to implement and can be controversial, at times (e.g. sugar tax). Therefore, by combining policies, from the changing the context tier and programs from the tops tiers this will help the community to understand reasoning behind policy change as well as receive the resources and support to change health behavior.
“We will pass reform that lowers cost, promotes choice, and provides coverage that every American can count on. And we will do it this year.” The preceding is a powerful statement from the newly elected President Barak Obama. One of the main aspects of both political campaigns was health care reform. The above quote shows passion and encouragement, but the quotes about health care do not end there. Georgian republican gubernatorial candidate and health care policy maker John Oxendine expressed: “Their proposal would virtually devastate the private healthcare sector in this country along with competition and patient choice, by replacing it with bureaucratic planning and government control. The result of this plan and its one trillion
Healthcare and insurance have been around for a long time. The first president to try to make a health care system that everyone could use and afford was Theodore Roosevelt (Brill 20). With affordable health care system everyone can receive the health care they deserve which could raise the life expectancy of people rich or poor. The healthcare system, like any other kind of system or organization has problems or flaws which can be improved. When one recognizes a problem in a system the leaders of the system can see where the problem is and begin to fix the problem, this allows the system to continue to improve all the time causing it to be the best system at that given time. If problems are seen but not fixed, the system
On August 29, 2016, Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton released an impressive plan for addressing the issue of mental health care in the United States.1 This plan echoes numerous bipartisan bills that have been produced in Congress over the past several years and seems to be one of the few issues that both sides of the aisle can agree on.2 Earlier this year, a bill providing additional support to mental health care was passed in the House with a 422-22 vote,3 so it is now up to the Senate to pass its own reform. If lawmakers fail to send a bill to President Obama before leaves office, which is likely, the responsibility will fall on the next president to move forward. This sometimes-complicated checks and balances system between the legislative and executive branches, as well as the multitude of steps that must be taken to pass and enact new legislation, is essential to ensure a thorough vetting of the bill and its purpose while also playing an important role in the preservation of liberty.4 If this turns out to be Ms. Clinton, her stance on the subject is obvious. She and the lawmakers working on these issues already seem to agree on many important aspects; one of the biggest points of agreement being that treatment of mental and physical health should be given the same priority. Other aspects of Clinton’s plan focus on early diagnosis and intervention, federal support for suicide prevention, improved outcomes in the criminal justice
