The first week of this unit I had a mix of emotions, excitement and stress . The topics covered each week have giving me the opportunity to increase my knowledge in many areas. Having an interest in teaching when I started this course has now grown to having an interest in learning as well. Reflecting on my education as a child has shown me the growth in teaching and our current education system.
Professionalism was a great way to start the unit; this topic has giving me the chance to understand the responsibilities that teachers have to students and their parents. On beginning this topic I believed that professionalism was about ethics and how teachers conducted themselves in and out of the classroom. However while this is

Cognitive learning and constructing knowledge are topics that hold a strong interest to me. Working with children that have language disorders and cognitive issues the more knowledge I gain in this area assist with the quality of instruction that I provide. Meaningful learning is vital in assisting students to learn and to store newly learned knowledge. Students will benefit from high quality concrete examples, simple and precise instructions. Language development should be encouraged and modelled students should have the opportunity to ask questions. Introducing new words within instructions will assist the student in extending their vocabulary. It is important for all students to put into words their understanding of the tasks being taught.
Understanding cognition and how we learn is essential in the developmental stages of children. Not all students learn in the same way, understanding the cognitive process will assist in the development of the students. By modifying my approach when giving instructions I have noticed growth in current students that I am working with. Using concrete materials and giving the opportunity for students to be involved in hands-on activities on a daily basis, is essential in making new material meaningful to learners.. The knowledge gained from this topic has increased my understanding and is benefiting the children I am currently

“Wake up! It’s time to get ready for school.” I loved those words as a child but grew to hate them as a teen. As a child, school consisted of hands-on activities, mingling with others, and enticing lessons. As a teen, school consisted of being forced to remain seated, reading a chapter, answering the questions at the end of the chapter, and completing a worksheet. I found school to be boring and excessively routine. Therefore, I never aspired to be a teacher. I cringed at the thought of that routine! After graduating from college with a degree in recreation and spending ten years in wonderful jobs that always led me back to children, like working at a child-care center for the abused, a children's
Though gradual and normal learning processes, behavior patterns are established and the powers of the adult mind are developed. She recognized that the young child in his formative stages absorbs almost all of his early learning from an environment in which he is placed, attitude, language, movements and behavior. The environment of the classroom was prepared with this concept of mind.
Education entails individual human development in the cognitive, emotional, creative and social areas. All children are entitled to a free education regardless of race, cultural background or handicaps. For education to be an effective part of the students life, the student and teacher must be actively and enthusiastically involved in learning. A teacher needs to be well prepared and organized. They need to know the perspective goals for each student and ways to achieve these goals. Teachers need to work with students to help them grow and develop ways to use their knowledge.
To begin, the first book Professionalism in Teaching highlighted important factors to consider as we become future educators. These highlights included what it means to be a “professional,” how to communicate effectively, and how to build relationships with fellow teachers, administration, students, and parents. As the authors discussed professionalism they emphasized the importance of looking the part by dressing in an appropriate manner, being reflective on all decisions that we make throughout the day, and determining the effectiveness of our teaching in the classroom. To add, it is important when trying to communicate and build relationships with others that we learn
Understanding cognitive development will better prepare the teacher when it comes to dealing with children and how to handle situations. The way children learn and mentally grow plays a central role in their learning process and abilities. When the teacher knows about the development of
A famous author once said, “When you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.” There is truth in that statement when we look at the nature of humans today. Today’s society is filled with people who are wondering around with no purpose or direction in life. People today are content with this helpless lifestyle and so generation after generation will continue until the society has no leaders. I attribute this directly to the education of these individuals. As a future teacher, I must look at what the nature of students has become, the nature of knowledge, and ask myself why we have public education. In order for me to be an effective educator, I must reevaluate my philosophy
By helping the child to use tools and strategies and asking questions about the use of the strategies and tools the child we be able to strengthen in that area and be able to work on their own without getting frustrated
As can be seen in Appendix 3, the teacher began the guided talk with context-embedded activities and gradually moved, with dialogue and action, towards less embedded activities, meaning that the children were never left without support, and at the time were being encouraged to move to the new knowledge which was the ability to report instructions for making a fruit salad. This is underpinned by Smyth (2003) who suggests that good planning for concept learning and language development will ensure that all pupils always move from activities with a high degree of contextual support, such as real objects and pictures, to those which are less contextually supported in these ways. At this higher level, activities will be much more dependent on the linguistic cues and the pupils’ own knowledge of language, as well as what they have already learnt.
God, the Ruler and Creator of every finite and infinite existence in the universe, has called me to a life of love, servitude, and fellowship with other Christians. However, at my age, my walk with Christ is no longer conjoined with decisions made by my parents. The decision of college is entirely mine to make with the benevolent and ever-wise guidance of Christ. By no means is this an easy task, but one ideal has been forthright in my heart-- my education must be Christ-centered.
“Dad why did you leave everything you had in Egypt to come to America?” I observed as he attempted not to think of a generic response. He responded “education” and after a long pause he explained,“education was what motivated me to come to America.” Further he explained how he believed that America’s educational system, unlike those of many third-world countries, allows choice which furthers to success. He repeatedly stated vaguely that in Egypt that real success does not exist. However, despite his opinion, I am not sure it exists in America either.
It is easy to be frustrated at education. It is easy to think about all that education is lacking. It seems like most of the time, the conversation is spent talking about how there are never enough of the good things that really help people to learn. When I started studying education in a critical lens, even when I was taking a course that was specifically designed to think about the possibilities of education, I felt that a good amount of the time was still spent thinking about the shortcomings. And, in critical thinking, it is a very useful tool to not just accept the systems the way they are! However, I started to get lost in tearing down the status quo. I started to feel like most of my time was spent learning about how education was inequitable and inaccessible, especially in terms of race, class, gender and ability. The anger in the articles I was reading was ringing through loud and clear and I was ready to take up the battle cry because if one is systematically denied education, they are denied economic and social capital in our society, which it is unjust (cite). However, I kept feeling unfulfilled by just feeling this anger. Anger and critical deconstruction of the system of education can catalyze change, but one has to have some idea of what an accessible and equitable system would look like in order to then start the work to get there.
The intent of this case study was to focus on the teacher providing a opportunity to increase the cognitive process of students in
To encourage this active learning process, students are requested to communicate during each stage, and to interact with objects at every step of the learning process. For example, they were learning about plants, so each child was shown a vocabulary word and given a picture and object to interact with that represent the vocabulary word and the topic of the lesson. In this case the
To me as a black woman. It's always tricky to distinguish the actions of an individual from the actions of their collective group. however, many likeminded people from varying cultural backgrounds who both share similar viewpoints and read the news constantly would agree.
