Reflection Paper About English Composition

English class has never been my strong suite. I always had to work twice as hard in English then I did in any other class. Writing paper always had me stressed and overwhelmed, I felt discouraged in my work. l never seemed to be able to get to the level I wanted to. I would try my hardest and paid attention in class, but when it came to writing the paper none of that seemed to help. I think that my experience in English Composition 1 has helped gain and grow in some areas, but I don’t think that it highlights a well-written college essay. Some elements that I worked to improving was introduction paragraphs, tone, style, and thesis statements.

Personally, from the class of English 1101, I have learned on how to use the writing processes effectively, where the first step is to have a pre-write, which focuses on brainstorming ideas form either the group or from individuals’ brain for the required topic. The second phase of the process is the thesis statement, which is the primary idea of the entire essay. I discovered that the thesis statement should be persuasive and truthful. The third step is on developing drafts, where it showed me on how to focus on content, organization, and style. Again, I noted that I must ask myself who is my audience, and what do they want or need to hear.

How did you search for these sources? What was the process you went through to find the sources?

There are many components involved in the writing process that are important to incorporate in your essay to make it a strong well constructed piece. Knowledge about the writing process is needed in order to succeed. Without the proper the knowledge there will be no direction throughout the paper. There are many different ways to write, but it is necessary to include in depth research, a strong thesis that pulls your audience into the paper, and organizational skills to create a backbone for a strong complete essay.

English has never been my strong suit. I always hated English simply, because I never concerned myself as a writer. I always stuck to the bare minimum and was pleased to know that I passed. I honestly never tried hard in English because I never felt good enough. I did not see myself as a confident writer and I am not sure I ever will. Since, being enrolled in English 201, it supplied some challenges that I was not ready for and felt unsuited for. Along the way, I learn some valuable lessons that I will utilize in my college career.

I learned not to put as many awkward words my essay. I also tried my best not to repeat my self as much as I was just to make my sentences and essay flow a lot better together. In this essay I used the turnitin.com and the teachers examples as a guide to help me compose a better essay. It’s hard to believe that my amazing journey in English 104 is coming to an end. The journey has been so much more enjoyable than I initially expected. I have tried to avoid taking English 104 numerous times because reading and writing have not been my strong points. Each time I attempted to take this course, I dropped it due to a particular instructor style, or a boring set of literary materials. This time around was different, as I set my goal to obtain my bachelor degree in Business Administration by the end of this summer. Therefore, I was determined to force my way through this class no matter what challenges I had to endure. To my pleasant surprise, this class was much better than the

Learning as much as my brain capacity can endure is my ultimate goal in life. School is not just a chore, it is a necessity to further me into the future. English class, specifically the writing portion has evolved my understanding of persuasive literature and how to explain my thoughts on paper for an audience to understand. Throughout the first semester of KCC English I have improved my essays from small to large mistakes.

I have been writing since I have been in Middle School. I have realized that by college it was easier for me to write down my thoughts in order for me to remember what I have said or done. Writing out my thoughts gives me a sense of recollection, knowledge, and pacification that gets me through my day. I pictured writing to be as simple as jotting down a few sentences, but as I got farther in school I realized that there is more to it than just writing sentences. English has been my most difficult subject I have ever endured, but I have somehow been managing to make excellent grades and achieving all requirements. First in the essay, I will discuss my experiences in the English life that I’ve taken so far up until college. The second part will list my struggles in creating a thesis, a work cited, and properly citing my sources used in the papers.

In my initial submission for Lesson 1, I recall being amused by the statement in the introduction of Navigating English Grammar that humans have always been fascinated by language. Then, and now, this still seems like an understatement to me. Language is an incredible facet to me and humans of all ages. To consider that an infant can communicate with few words and more gestures and then continue to develop the use of language as the number of words increase proves to be such an interesting phenomenon which has an influence on a human’s existence. This influence permeates throughout language in formal or informal use. In that same lesson, I recall the childhood influences upon my language development. Being a young Southern woman, a distinct dialect permeated my childhood environments; from home, school, and small community, the slow, slang-filled conversations enlightened me in the ways of people around me. This information partnered with the Grammar Quest proved that my own method of verb usage perplexed me. The instruction received in my local elementary and middle school demonstrated an error in my grandfather’s way of speaking; therefore, my way of speaking did not follow prescriptive rules, and additional instruction was deemed necessary. With this review and research of prior writings, the use of verbs and verb forms used in a prescriptive nature proves to be an area of concern for my own proper use of Standard English.

English is one the most important and spoken languages around the world. This is present in many fields such as the economy, politics, entertainment, and others. For this reason, it was necessary to identify the benefit of learning a second language through the use of an interactive activity in one of the educative institutions of Tungurahua.

This semester was excellent! Recently I found myself taking English 1301 for the first time. At first, I felt overpowered, the assignments assort in topics and at times, I felt unknowing of the subjects. Often papers ranged from primitive to intricate. Before long we started off with a simple essay, then progressed from there. Luckily, power points were provided throughout the course.

At the begging of the year, I had little knowledge to write an essay for this class, especially since we did not have many guidelines. For my glorious moment paper, I changed a good amount of text. I went back throwing, revising my paper and making changes. Overall, I changed a majority of my sentence structures because the first final draft contained numerous bland versions. Many of my sentences also had to be fixed in the begging so that they were not so repetitive. From there, I thought it would have been a good idea to changing my opening and closing portions of my essays. I made my introduction and my conclusion end in the same place so that it all ties together. I also made a large amount of changes in my cause and effect essay. Reading and revising the paper, I noticed that the effects were not evident. So, I changed my introduction. While changing my introduction, I noticed that my body paragraphs did not fit. So, I went back through and decided to make all of my paragraphs into something different. In dong so, I made my paper much stronger and I did not have to keep stating how I came to be. I also wen back to the appositive, participial, and prepositional packets we did and tried to use a variety of different structures. Finally, I also made large changing in my AP Essay for The Great Gatsby. After rereading my paper I realized that my paper could be much stronger. I am a high school junior who picked English 101 to try and earn college credits. I had heard good things about the class from my friends, so I figured it would be a good starting point. My experience in the class was engaging, and I stretched myself to write more with different material. English 101 was a beneficial class that helped me grow as a writer and learn to analyze subject matter critically.

This semester has been busy, I have written four papers. Scoring better than I thought I was capable of. St. Edward’s University was not my first choice, because I knew that St. Edward’s focuses on their student’s writing skills. The only reason I applied was because my mom wanted me to. I got waitlisted at my first choice and then my mom thought my second choice was too far, so here I am at a University that requires more writing from a person than anyone has ever done in my life. Reading and writing are not my strongest subjects, I am better at math, chemistry, anything with numbers.I set foot in this school with the thought that I was going to fail or just barely pass Rhetoric and Composition. I was going to take it in the a university that its goal is to improve the student’s reading and writing skills. The truth was, I expected to dread the class. On the first day of class, a man in his early 40s started screaming at the 14 kids in the room. He is different than the teachers I had before which is refreshing, his name is Professor Braun. It’s November and this is the fifth paper he has us writing, it is a reflection on my writing from the beginning of September to now. From Untitled Paper #1 to Are you Certain of Your Own Truth Paper #4, I am able to see a big improvement such as there are less careless mistakes, my ideas are more developed and carried throughout my papers, and there is a more concise support and more analysis in my papers.
