Questions and Procedures The library will not provide patrons with legal, medical, or financial advice. The librarian will not provide patrons with opinions or hypothetical information, but will provide definitions and quote directly from the source itself. Staff can also provide the source and copyright date for legal and medical information if needed. Typically the librarian and patron conversation will begin with a reference interview to help clarify what a patron is in search of. The librarian or staff members will provide resources or recommendations to the patron and will be verified by the patron after the transaction to see if it meets their needs.
If a patron has a complaint with the reference service and polices, the patron will be directed to the library coordinator. The patron may call the library to provide suggestions or to report a problem and should be prepared to leave their name, number, description of the problem or suggestion at the time of the
For libraries to remain a place for a lively exchange of ideas, librarians should be armed with the right knowledge and strong conviction to preserve people’s rights.
Books and other library resources should be provided for the interest, information, and enlightenment of all people of the community the library serves. Materials should not be excluded because of the origin, background, or views of those contributing to their creation.
Working in any organization where there is lack of help, time, and supplies can be quite challenging for employees and management. This seems to the dilemma that these three reference librarians where having. Within this case study there seems to be frustration with the current working conditions, especially the technological support that is needed. The reference librarians find it challenging to complete their jobs when they have to consistently assist in computer problems, leaving the reference desk unattended.
For this assignment I decide to call El Paso Library Main Branch because it was the only library that answered my call. My first option was Clardy Fox Library but the phone that Google provide was off line. I called El Paso Library on Saturday, September 5th at 2 p.m. because they closed at 6 p.m. and luckily they answered me. The person that took the phone was a male, I forgot to ask his name or maybe I do not remember his name at all. Going to the point, the first thing that I ask him was if I could ask him a few question for my communication class, fortunately he said yes. He was very polite. The first question that I asked was I they’ve had any requests to ban books? He said, yes they have but not now. Then he told me that in the time he has been working there they have had maybe two or
Inclusive school librarianship has been my passion since my sophomore year of high school and I have maintained this commitment by working as an elementary library media center assistant. My experience as a library media center assistant at a multicultural metropolitan school has facilitated my ability to foster inclusiveness among students from diverse backgrounds due to working at a Title One school that is predominately Latino. I have contributed towards the development of accessible and diverse media centers for underserved populations through creating and promoting book displays for events such as National Hispanic Heritage Month and National Native American Heritage Month. Another way that I have promoted accessible and equitable library media centers is by assisting students and teachers with locating materials and processing interlibrary loans in fulfilling their information

The library I volunteered at is run by the high school, Dr. Norman Bethune Collegiate Institute (C.I.). The school was founded in 1979 and was named after Norman Bethune; a well-known Canadian doctor. He was best known for his services during World War I and his dedication to helping the poor in Canada. Moreover, over these past few years, the school has prospered beautifully and has had many renovations and changes. For example, two years ago, the school’s library had a huge makeover. The library was given new furniture to allow to have students a better working space. Similarly, the library moved shelves around in order to make it more convenient for everyone to access books. Ultimately, Dr. Norman Bethune C.I. has it in their best interest to provide students with the tools they need to succeed in education. In other words, the school displays good citizenship by assisting their students.
As Prof, Yonker stated in her PowerPoint that “Creating and implementing the right database system, ensures that the database will support business activities and goals, capabilities and types of database systems that vary. The growth of information and knowledge has impacted public libraries in many ways. The functions of a library are to collect, process, disseminates, store and retrieve information to offer better services to patrons. A Library success depends upon the ability to provide and utilize knowledge and information to the staff tp better serve the needs of the community.
The variety of skills and library experience that Kathe brings to the library enhances the services we provide. With a friendly and welcoming approach,
There are an enormous amount of people in the United States that depend on the librarian to do different tasks that they cannot do. Patrons may think it is simple, but before you can become a librarian you have to learn how to conquer some patrons that come in, you have to learn how to work the desk and learn how to work the shelves.
Staff will hear out the complainant. The complaint may be made to the individual in charge of the building at the time. All complaints will be documented and reported to the Library Director within 24 hrs. A complete, non-anonymous Complaint form must be used. Anonymous forms will be disregarded.
While I was helping out at the library, I realized just how many resources we have available to us students. I also noticed that most students didn’t even know about them, much less how to access them. We had numerous events such as a computer coding workshop (for people of all ages) which I would have gone to if it wasn’t for it being during one of my classes. I was also surprised to find that many of the librarians went to the events. One resource for example, is the online librarian chat where you can ask for help in finding sources, which was especially helpful

Since their establishment, libraries have served as a gateway to knowledge and services that revolutionized the way the public attains information. Unlike many other institutions, public libraries have grown and evolved along with society by adopting new technology and offering resources tailored to the needs of their local community.
The current service model employed by the Library includes limited technology-driven services and is primarily based around a reference desk staffed by information professionals during opening hours. However, due to the information and communications technology (ICT) revolution of the last few decades and the resulting ease with which users are able access information and services via the Internet, the Library is being confronted with swiftly changing behaviours and expectations from their users - as a result Curtin’s traditional services are no longer fulfilling the various users needs. To prove its ongoing usefulness and relevance to their users, the Library must redesign its services by embracing technology and Web 2.0 techniques, redesigning face-to-face services,
