Hi Sarah, Thank you for sharing your knowledge about statistical information and how that helped you make a decision on what tests you can use for a patient’s problem. To be honest with you, I find it difficult to understand statistical information and quantitative data. So, I’ll be focusing on the research that I found about qualitative data for two tests that we commonly use in our facility. Since I work with children, we use the PDMS-2 and BOT-2 for assessing gross motor and fine motor skills. I read an article by Hands, Licari, & Piek (2015) where they reviewed five tests for motor skills and it was concluded that there is “no gold standard” for adolescents and young adults to “diagnose motor impairments”. However, it was indicated that
Nurses are responsible in providing holistic, quality care to their clients. In order to effectively provide such care Boswell and Cannon (2009, p. 2 & 7) states that nurses must base their provision of care on the most current, up-to-date health information available and sound nursing knowledge. This is where evidence-based practice (EBP) comes in. Polit and Beck (2010, p. 4) defined EBP as "the use of the best clinical evidence in making patient care desicions". This usually comes from research conducted by nurses and other healthcare professionals. Thus it is pertinent that research reports are critically analyzed.

While conducting my ethnography I have interviewed five All-Girl members, and four Coed members of the Spirit program. By interviewing one more All-Girl members I hope to even out my biases due to being a part of the Coed team. Yet, before defining the differences found between the two teams, I will share the apparent similarities. Both teams show strong linguistic accommodations which I have observed at numerous appearances, such as changing the way one would speak due to their audience. When present at an appearance all members of the Spirit program are expected to intermingle and socialize with attendees. During the course of this exchange it became apparent that accommodating for the age of audience drastically changed the way the team members spoke. For example, when Jules Wazny was speaking to an elderly man she reduced the tempo at which she spoke and asked questions about the game and respectfully shook his hand; yet when she was speaking to a child she spoke in a higher pitch tone, offered the child her poms to play with, and asked questions such as how old the child was. These actions represent convergence, changing ones language to better fit the style of the recipient, which was not only found with All-Girl Cheerleader Jules Wazny, but also throughout the program. An example from a Coed member was Vivi Benbrook changing how she spoke with a middle age male, in a calm and respectful manor asking questions of the game such as where his seats where, and if he thought we were going to win. Contrast this to when she spoke to an elderly women, she used a higher pitch when asking if she was excited, and telling her to stay warm in this cold weather. All members, once wearing affiliated attire, whether it is practice gear,
Through exploratory qualitative research and measurable quantitative research, I will be discussing a final research document which will consider implications of how thought processes work as well as progression groups, and unique techniques through counseling will be applied to substance abuse, as well as addressing how the thought process works and how emotions play a large impact on personal recovery. In the Qualitative research article titled A Cognitive Behavioral Approach to Client Anxiety, Anger, Depression, and Guilt Kevin C. Murphy (1980) discusses how counselors are often trying to find ways to address ways to reach a client to help them through the thought process, through using different therapeutic techniques
A norm is a socially expected behavior that may change based on a person, place, or situation. An agency is a freedom of choice. For my ethnographic research, I have to observe a public place in which people commonly interact with each other. A public place that stood out to me was the Lockwood library third floor. I chose this location because it is not similar to a usual library, it is the complete opposite. Libraries enforce strict rules like no eating and no talking. Lockwood floor three says otherwise. The floor is filled with long tables that can seat around twenty people each. Ironically, there are no bookcases on this floor, just tables everywhere. There is one group study room on this floor which can be reserved by students which is the size of an average classroom.
The site chosen for this ethnographical study was The Square on downtown Arcata, California. This location was selected based on what we speculate is an increased population of transient individuals. Many Humboldt State University students and faculty are represented in this area due to its close proximity. The question this study will address the question of what it means to be a member of the transient community and how it is that they interact with the permanent residents or students of Arcata. This question will be examined by analyzing information collected in the field while observing and interviewing members of transient and non-transient populations.
While reviewing the results of the most recent state testing data for Owasso, a common trend arose. The median OPI Score for each subject tested was lower for economically disadvantaged students. Furthermore, the percentage of students at or above proficiency was lower for every elementary school in the district, as demonstrating in Figure 1 above. This is certainly not surprising to anyone who has been in education for any amount of time, and the performance of economically disadvantaged students is a common focus of research. I️ wanted to discover if Owasso’s results were out of the ordinary compared to other economically disadvantaged students from around the nation. I decided to focus
The stated purpose of the article was to evaluate not only pain control in adolescents who underwent a spinal fusion, but also the emotional/psychological and physical affect it had on them. Another stated purpose was to uncover the pre-operation education and preparedness for the surgery. Is it enough to prepare
The search terms I used to locate this study were “academic performance” and “high school athletes.” I found the study in the SPORTDiscus with Full Text database. There were several reasons why I chose this study to analyze over other studies identified in the search results. The main reason I chose this study was because its research question most directly addressed my research topic. The other aspects of the study that made it seem worth investigating were that it was peer reviewed, it was published within the last year, and it examined students within the United States. Many of the other studies in the search results analyzed student samples from other countries; but in order to maintain consistency and keep my research topic somewhat narrow, I want to only look at studies that investigate athletics in secondary education in the United States.
In this assignment, various research with regards to different agendas will be discussed and broken down into the approaches that were conducted and the results of these researches. The first study that will be analyzed will be; Factors Involved in Recovery from Schizophrenia: A Qualitative study of Thai Mental Health Nurses. The authors for this research study were; Kaewprom, Chettha; Curtis, Janette; Deane, Frank P. The main point of this study was to investigate international methods, such as those conducted in Thailand and compare and contrast them with American psychiatric approaches in order to improve the
The total amount of surveys to be analyzed was 110, and it was decided to break up each question as much as possible in order to make it easier to analyze.
1) If you answer yes to the above question regarding health insurance, can you tell me if using health insurance removes communication barriers when visiting a doctor?
Within a quantitative study, the research is completed to seek some type of verification, but within a qualitative study the research is completed to seek a deeper understanding (Capella University, 2017c). For instance, Hoelscher et al. (2016) used a survey method to verify how the students commuted to school, and they received weather reports for specific dates and locations for data collection. In contrast, if Hoelscher et al. (2016) study was conducted using qualitative methodology, it would be designed as a multiple-case study design. A multiple case study design is an evaluation of multiple systems that are studied and compared to one another over time (Capella University, 2017b). The multiple cases being
The most naturally challenge and quality data collection and exploration method is observation, Participant observation is in some ways both the most natural and the most challenging of qualitative data collection methods participant observation is used across the social sciences, as well as in various forms of commercial, public policy, and nonprofit research.. Such discovery is natural in that all of us have done this repeatedly throughout our lives, learning what it means to be members of our own families, our ethnic and national cultures, our work groups, and our personal circles and associations. The challenge of observation is taking notes, recording voices, sounds, and images; and asking questions that are designed to uncover the meaning behind the behaviors. Sociologists also conducted participant observation studies and discussed the use of the technique early on, including Beatrice Webb (1926) in the 1880s and the Chicago school of urban sociologists in the 1920s (Park, Burgess, & McKenzie, 1925).
After having analysed what the 50 women had to say in the Pilot study, the following Methodology was adopted for the final study. Quantitative Methodology with the Survey was considered the most feasible method for the present study. It is less oriented towards representatives and more towards finding associations and explanations, less towards description and more towards prediction, less lightly to ask ‘how many’, than ‘why’ and what goes with ‘what’.
