Falling over and over onto the dense sleet surface, with snow penetrating what’s left keeping you warm; your initial experience of snowboarding. Similar to other learning experiences, but perhaps not as harsh. Learning is a journey filled with challenges and sometimes failures. What determines the outcome is whether you can persevere and receive the everlasting reward of success. Learning is what you make of it, may it be learning to snowboard or applying it into the classroom setting. It will be an enriching skill you will be able to apply universally. Most people begin learning at a young age, beginning with your parents teaching you basic animals, letters, numbers, etc. Only to build on this learning throughout your walk of life. We learn every day, whether it be something minute, or something significant to your career. Everyone experiences learning differently, …show more content…
It’s a lot like a maze, there are multiple paths you will take which will only leave you at a dead end. But, once you find the correct path you will have a paradigm shift. A confidence boost to take on all endeavors. Your first time going down a snow slope on a snowboard without fault is an exhilarating moment. Just like receiving a hard-earned A on a paper is radiant feeling. A technique I personally use is trial and error. I can’t imagine how anyone else can learn to snowboard without this method. You cannot read a book to learn it, snowboarding requires direct action so you can get the feel and practice the technique. Trial and error directly applies to writing essays as well, you don’t finish an essay in one draft, it takes multiple revisions and edits to get the finished product. Once you accomplish the task at hand, the feeling of triumph will be forever burned into your hippocampus along with your other memories. Though this outcome is not an easy venture, another way to help find your learning style is looking to your peers and
Snowboarding is one of the most enjoyed international pastimes. It presents you with this feeling of freedom and raw power as the cold air hits your face while you carve down the almost vertical mountain face dropping over steep clips and carving trough trees. These are just a few reasons why so many people internationally flock to the mountains to partake in this sport. Snowboarding provides people an escape from there comfort zone by pushing them to take on risks they would never have thought off before.
The physics of skiing and snowboarding are very similar. They both rely on a downwards pull from gravity. This pull is what turns the potential energy into kinetic energy. As a smooth surface (or two) pass over the snow a small amount of energy is lost to friction. The bottom of the skis or board zoom across the surface of the snow creating heat. The heat along with the weight bearing down on the snow melt some of the snow creating a film of water on the bottom of the surface. Some energy is also lost by through wind resistance of the riders silhouette.
Somehow skating has managed to always be in my life. My earliest memories are times on my dad’s hawaiian longboard with him, riding me home from my old school. There would be time’s I’d be brought to someone's house and notice skateboarding on the tv. I didn’t really understand the videos or what a “part” was but I still had recognition for it. Without knowing a single person in the video or any of the tricks, I still somehow felt motivated to go ride. I saw the world through the eyes of a skateboarder, taking notice of all the culture. Eventually I was gifted a used board that was covered in stickers. Nowadays I put very few stickers on a board, but back then I’d be adding more constantly. It wasn’t long before skating became a lifetime friend that I’d wind up relying on throughout my ups and downs.
Snow is not the best because it can be extremely dangerous, bitterly cold, and making up missed school day is never fun.
Waking up and looking outside, the snow is several inches deep covering the grass, the street, and the snow-banks are knee high. These are the perfect conditions, for one thing, snowboarding. A snowboarder knows the prime conditions to ride and will do anything to make sure they are on the mountain ready to go when those conditions arise. In preparation for snowboarding, you’ll need to consider the temperature, where you will be riding, and what type of gear is needed for the conditions.
When I started my first semester of college, I was very worried about writing essays and research papers. I felt like my writing skills lacked greatly compared to other students. I knew a few things of which I could improve on right off the bat, such as my vocabulary skills and organizational skills. To say the least I was very nervous about how my writing composition course would be like and did not think it would go very well for me. However, I learned so many techniques that have helped my writing skills grow. It all started with learning how to stay organized, planning what to write in your essay in outline form and sticking to it really helped when writing essays. These techniques helped me become more confident in my essays and allowed writing essays to become a lot easier. The few aspects in which I am strong in while writing essays is my ability to stay organized, focused and be very clear about what I am writing. Nonetheless, there is always room for improvement; a few things that I can think of being grammar and punctuation due to no revising, embedding quotes smoothly, and citing sources correctly.

Every writer and reader has their own opinion and perspective on things. In “Exploring Language” chapter 2, all the authors had a great point and advice about how to be a successful writer. The one with the most useful information for improving my own writing was a professor at the University of California-Davis, Anne Lamott’s essay because I can totally relate to the subject. It has been always a struggle for me to write any of my college paper, but Lamott eased my fear of writing. She states “It is a matter of persistence and faith and hard work.

Imagine being at the top of the world, on a bitter cold mountain, over top of an enormous crowd. Below where you stand, the lustrous lights are shining on a massive jump, that seems larger than the mountain itself, created for the professional snowboard competition. This gargantuan jump will decide whether you win or lose the competition. Becoming a professional snowboarder has been a dream to me ever since I first was beginning to snowboard. Being on top of the enormous slope and strapping into my bindings instantly made me relaxed and put a grin larger than the slope itself on my face. Everytime I glide down the face of the mountain I become focused and dialed in on my riding. When becoming a professional snowboarder as an occupation, I would compete in large competitions such as the X- Games or the Olympics to win prizes and gain popularity. The excitement from competing in such a competition and the view the crowd would be something I would have dreamed of in my early stages of snowboarding. The experience would give me an overwhelming amount of adrenaline and make it feel as though my childhood dreams had sprung legs and walked through time towards my present day self. Professional snowboarding competitions would be give me the joy and passion as a dream job all while traveling and being with my friends.
Snowboarding is a sport that originated from two pieces of wood. One day tom sims was looking to make a gift for his daughter and he made the snowboard out of two skis. You look out across the mountains, taking in the amazing sunset as it reflects off the snow. You are filled with adrenaline and excitement, but you are also relaxed, mind free of any worries. Then you take off, flying down the mountain, and its just you and the slope. And when you get to the bottom, you get back on the lift, ready to do it all again. That’s what skiing is like for me, and I hope to convince all of you to attempt to find that same state of euphoria.
