A condom is a latex sheath used to help prevent AIDS and STDs. “The United States has seen an estimated 888,575 cases of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), with 718,002 of those cases in men, 159,271 in women, and 9,300 cases in children under thirteen years old” (Witherbee, Amy) and these numbers for AIDS and other STD’s have been on a constant rise. Most unfortunately 25 percent of the U.S STD infections are teenagers (Rich, Alex K. Sprague, Nancy). This is a result of a lack of condom use and education. To resolve this problem parents and leaders have tried to teach teens that abstinence is the only way to prevent disease. While this is very true the number of STD cases have still been increasing. For one of our first objective, we wanted the students at Magnolia Science Academy to be able to identify at the end of the session three, different contraceptives, which then changed it to one because of time constraints. To test this objective to see if it was absorbed we placed it as the question in the post-test portion of the session. The question was stated, “to name one way to prevent pregnancy.” In Appendix A, figure 1, you can see the graph in detail.

Assessment in counseling should be viewed not as a one-time prediction activity but rather as continuous throughout the counseling process (Juhnke, 1995). In the future I would conduct assessments for each of my clients before service is conducted to gather information about them and when there have been any types of disruption with the client while receiving services. Conducting assessments would help to determine what goals to set and other resources that the client may need to assist with their problem. With the increase problem with people being killed by law enforcement or being a member of someone that had been killed. It is a major concern to me so, I would assess the people involve to evaluate their mental status and possibly Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We don’t know what someone have experienced or been through as a victim so, as counselor assesses them more in detail with the necessary tools (assessments) and individual counseling is very beneficial.

Sundet) Birth control is used to prevent pregnancies within hours or days after having unprotected sex. After having sexual intercourse, seventy-two hours are given to take the contraceptive pill. Some studies show emergency contraception's to be unharmful, meanwhile, there is a lack of knowledge about it.

The United States has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STD’S) compared to other developed countries (Darroch, Singh, Frost, 2001). There are several arguments when it comes to sexual education being taught in school systems. Many parents fear their student will learn too much at young age and won’t know how often sexual education is being discussed. Children in today’s society are going through puberty at young ages and obviously waiting years to become married. According to Health News (2009), students in the United States 12 years of age had already participated in vaginal intercourse by 12%, 7.9% of 12 year old students participated in oral sex, and 6.5% participated in anal sex. The statistics just mentioned are very startling! Teenagers becoming sexually active by age 14 are at a higher risk of having multiple sex partners throughout their lifetime. A study found about 8 in 10 males and 7 in 10 females had become sexually active by age 19 (Guttmacher, 1981). Another survey proved 64% of males and 44% of females were sexually active by their 19th birthday. By 15 years of age, 7 in 10 males and 5 in 10 females reported having sexual intercourse (Masserman & Uribe, 1989). Proper condom use is important to be taught to students. Many sexually active teens don’t know how to properly use condoms. Proper condom application will prevent the risk of unwanted teenage pregnancy, spread of sexually

At some point of time in everyone’s life sexual activity will occur; this specific behavior is not illegal just imperative that you are aware of possible consequences that is likely to occur due to your actions. With Sexual activity come along Sexually Transmitted Diseases that are able to occur within the body when not careful. Many of the Young adults in today’s society are the number one victims of the infections due to a lack of knowledge on the topic. In my paper, I will inform the young adult’s population on the importance of sexual activities, and ways to prevent those infections by using things such as Condoms, Screenings, and birth control methods; for other reasons. Sexually Transmitted Disease is a topic that is very significant to health promotion to “promote healthy sexual behaviors, strengthen community capacity, and increase access to quality services to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and their complications” (healthpeople2020; need to cite correctly).

I will investigate if the parents talk with their children about contraception methods and how often. I will provide some courses about why it is important to use contraceptive methods.

It is commonly thought that teenagers are involved with dangerous and destructive behavior. Being a teenager myself, I cannot necessarily disagree with this, however one misconception is that access to condoms is essentially a free pass for kids to have intercourse and encourages other possible dangerous behaviors. I do not agree that this is true, as this can be interpreted different ways. Access to condoms allows for teens to use these safeguards in their lives. Many condom packages are labeled with what diseases and unwanted consequences can happen if a condom is not used. This by no means promotes teens or young adults to participate in other destructive behaviors, but does let them know that sexual intercourse can be dangerous if precautions

During lunch a group of high school students engaged in a discussion on sexual matters. One of the students mentioned that if two condoms are worn instead of only one it will further prevent pregnancies and stds. However, when more than one condom is used it will create friction and break leading to the possibility of getting pregnant and direct skin contact which makes a person vulnerable to an std. Many adolescents in the present day are participating in sex with minimal to no knowledge about the concept. There are about “850,000 pregnancies, and… 9.1 million sexually transmitted infections”(Mckeon, 2006, para. one) within the young age group primarily targeted to the high school students. The appropriate action to decrease these numbers is having all high schools have an elective sex education course, to educate students on the body of females and males, inform on the complications and risks, and promote an effective version of abstinence.
